Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Your Corbyn/Sultana Party - Discussion thread - Part 2

The YP starting conference is in the ACC in Liverpool between 29-30 November so only three weeks off. With competing factions involving Islamic conservatives, every variety of Marxist/Communist, former Labour members, trade union activists, entryists from SWP and SPEW, splitters from the Scottish Greens, trans activists and actual left wing feminists [not the nice kind] it is difficult to underplay how much controversy there is likely to be. So we will need a second thread in advance.

Thus far following the internal drama of the UKs newest left party has taken a whole thread. It has been a wild ride and the party still does not have a name.

Actually from reading that article the not funny part of this is that they have taken money and tons of data from people and seem to be spaffing it up the wall. £13000 on a ' membership portal'? Is there literally nothing cheaper that already exists? They aren't even using it. Even the conference sounds like it will be a shambles- having to pay for security to stop the thousands of other Left Wing groups from storming the stage. I would be fuming if I'd paid for this shitshow. Hope they've taken the money from 500,000 people who can afford to waste £55.

WorriedMutha · 28/11/2025 21:21

Your Party has been busy expelling SWP members including Nielsen today. I assume this is a swipe at Zarah. I'm getting the Popcorn ready for the weekend.

TruckDiver · 28/11/2025 21:23

Lewis Nielsen and a bunch of other SWP members have been expelled from YP on the eve of conference for belonging to another political party, when the membership rules for signing up clearly stated that was not allowed (as is the case in every political party, for obvious reasons).

Not stopping the conspiracy theories though.

TruckDiver · 28/11/2025 21:28

Sorry didn't see @WorriedMutha's post. Hard to imagine there isn't something factional going on, and it's got everybody's memory of the Labour party's fondness for using such tricks going into overdrive.

But as I said, it IS very clear according to the rules, which were clearly stated before signing up and weren't long or complicated. Nielsen & co read them and decided to ignore them and lie, so whatchagonnado?

SionnachRuadh · 28/11/2025 21:37

Hilariously, it seems Nielsen got the email when he was travelling in the same carriage as Corbyn and Alvarez. Handbags at dawn!

The paper has recently been referring to its members as "Socialist Worker supporters", after the fashion of Militant in the 1980s when they were pretending that the tendency didn't exist. They aren't fooling anyone.

I mean the rules are the rules, and you can't have a prohibition against dual membership when the national secretary of the SWP (though they modestly call him "Lewis from Stand Up to Racism" in publicity) can join YP in blatant contravention of the rules.

It must have been humiliating for the horrible little scrote, and I have no problem with that.

SionnachRuadh · 28/11/2025 22:12

Quite seriously though, this might be the first sensible thing Corbyn has done in years. Some of the far left groups are relatively harmless and would work constructively in YP. The SWP is a very different proposition.

SionnachRuadh · 28/11/2025 22:22

The hilarity continues as top SWP theoretician Alex Callinicos is also expelled. If you don't know Alex, he is so posh he makes King Charles look like Frank Butcher. I don't know how YP will survive without one of his "hends orf the working clarse" speeches.

SionnachRuadh · 28/11/2025 22:32

It's slightly disappointing that they're being expelled for a technical breach of the membership rules, instead of being expelled for being rape-defending Stalinist wankers, but I'll take what I can get.

Nielsen apparently got a standing ovation at Zarah's rally. That tells me all I need to know about her faction.

Surely they should be the People's Internationalist Socialist Party of Our Revolution.

Inside Zarah Sultana’s rally on the eve of Your Party Conference

Communists plot takeover of Your Party
Zarah Sultana denies knowing about socialist caucus’s plan to disrupt hard-Left group’s first conference
A group called the Socialist Unity Platform (SUP) is set to fight for a caretaker committee to take over Jeremy Corbyn’s new hard-Left party this weekend.
The group – which includes members of the Communist Party of Great Britain and the Socialist Workers’ Party – is in contact with Zarah Sultana, the party’s co-founder, raising concerns that she has been aware of the planned takeover.

Why I walked away from Your Party
Adnan Hussain MP
The problem is ideological absolutism masquerading as progressive principle. There is a strain of thought on the left that sees socially conservative views as a pathology to be corrected. It is rooted in an assumption: improve someone’s economic conditions and their social attitudes will, inevitably, liberalise. This is historically, sociologically and politically illiterate. Human beings are not economic widgets. People hold on to traditions, beliefs and identities because they are meaningful, not because they are materially convenient.
When the left insists that working-class people must relinquish their cultural or religious attachments to be politically acceptable, it reproduces a form of liberal paternalism every bit as condescending as the attitudes it claims to oppose. It tells communities already scarred by deindustrialisation and abandonment that their values are a problem to be solved, not experiences to be understood.

There is, apparently, a PURGE of SWP members going on.

So just like every other entanglement of Stalinists and Trots then 🙄

Lalgarh · 29/11/2025 03:12

Sorry didn't realise it's already been reported upthread statement from purge Lewis Nielsen that "We need Your Party to fight Farage and Starmer, not the left"

Not sure which faction was disrupting the Evening of Culture and Poetry with Corbyn earlier

TruckDiver · 29/11/2025 08:01

Name choices all bad.

Agreed. I can't believe the best they could distill the thoughts of 50,000 members down to was that.

I mean hes absolutely correct but his analysis of the British Left can hardly have been a surprise to him unless he wasn't paying attention. Its why the actual working class have nothing to do with them and they are full of trust fund babies. They have always been patronising. Calling yourself ' progressive does not, and has never made them actually 'progressive'.

"let's get this party started"

Fraternal goodwill message from Corbyn to the Sultana rally last night

Sultana's face is 👀 🗡️ 😡

Canary, one of the micro news outlets aligned on the left, appears to back the SWP Expulsions. Novara seem to be sucking up to the greens.

Still laughing at the pen portrait of Alex Calinicos by @SionnachRuadh

Lalgarh · 29/11/2025 10:19

Conference programme published

https://www.yourparty.uk/founding-conference/

Corbyn has just he'd like to keep the Your Party name. They have set aside 25 minutes to debate this before closing.

There's also already been a protest outside at the expulsion of SWP members

SionnachRuadh · 29/11/2025 11:09

Sultana saying that nationalising utilities isn't going far enough, and we should also be nationalising food production.

I know everyone loves to hate McDonalds, but the alternative of a state-owned JezBurger doesn't bear thinking about.

How does she see that working with the c. 40% of food, feed and drink the UK imports?

Or will the JezBurger consist mainly of turnip?

Both sky and BBC were covering Corbyns opening speech. At one point he said it was obscene that there were more food banks in the UK than branches of McDonald's.

I immediately thought does that mean he wants more McDs?

Every town should have some sort of safety net for people that need food and if that means a food bank then isn't that preferable?

Surely it's not that hard to understand what he actually meant, unless you're deliberately avoiding it to be provocative.

Prior to the 2008 financial crisis there weren't more food banks in the UK than MacDonalds, but that wasn't because towns that really needed them didn't have them. It's because people had enough to eat.

He (like most civilized people) wants the economy and state to work in such a way that food banks don't exist because they're not needed.

SionnachRuadh · 29/11/2025 12:27

Interesting timetable. Not much time to discuss motions, and the main one (inevitably) is the party constitution. Plus 25 minutes for an address by some guy from the Workers Party of Belgium.

So lots of navel-gazing and lots of time taken up by "top table" speakers, very much in the tradition of Labour conference.

Still probably preferable to SWP conference, which I hear has dispensed with the tradition of everyone nipping out for a cheeky smoke while Alex Callinicos drones on about Lenin.

Is she just randomly saying stuff now for attention? Does she mean she wants state owned factories churning out food? Would they be able to import ingredients or will we have to turn the entire country into factories and farmland? What kind of food? Will we have a choice or will it be like rationing in WWII? We could go back to the days of the National loaf! It will save the NHS a fortune I suppose if McDonalds and KFC isn't allowed to trade!
