Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

An event invitation I got. What does this wording even mean?

There’s a networking event for female leaders next week. One of the questions was ‘can men attend?’ This is what the response is. HUH?

Hear Here is forming, and we are learning as we go. For this event, we are creating a space specifically for female, non-binary, agender, and gender non-conforming people. In future, we may look to extend this to allies and all.

It's a word salad that means nothing. It doesn't answer as to whether any males will be in attendance

BadgernTheGarden · 04/11/2025 21:09

Ask for them to reply in English?

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 04/11/2025 21:11

It means we want to create a female space, and we don't want to exclude women who identify as NB etc, oh no what about the ones that say they don't have a gender, oh shit just put a load of the terms in there and also say allies as well cos that's important apparently and we won't say men and we will just hope no men come but if they do we will be too scared to say no.

Brefugee · 04/11/2025 21:11

it means: yes, men can come

sellotape12 · 04/11/2025 21:23

Took it to read that
“actually yes men in fact can come”

TheGirlWhoWantedToBeGod · 04/11/2025 21:25

Oh dear. So by ‘female leaders’ they actually mean ‘anyone’. Which renders the event meaningless.

IDontHateRainbows · 04/11/2025 21:27

Sounds like the answer is a definite yes to me, but if you ask them of course they won't say that as man doesn't equal.penis haver in woke-land.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 04/11/2025 21:27

It means it's for men as well - it also means that they are now woefully behind the curve on this. Any organisation worth its salt is reverse ferreting on that sort of nonsense

Shutuptrevor · 04/11/2025 21:29

Yes, it means men pretending they’re women can come this time, and next time maybe all men can come.

Justme56 · 04/11/2025 21:38

i don’t think they even have to be trans if it’s just gender non conforming. Unless they can identify specifics it could include a bloke with long hair or the guy who emptied the dishwasher last night, I guess.

JanesLittleGirl · 04/11/2025 21:46

Because it would be so confusing to say that the event is open to anyone registered female at birth.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/11/2025 21:46

Brefugee · 04/11/2025 21:11

it means: yes, men can come

and more over it means 'we're too scared to tell men they can't come. but we still want to pat ourselves on the back for being feminists'

WhatterySquash · 04/11/2025 22:54

So stupid anyway, because if they were totally on board the trans train, they would think TW were (or should count as) female/women anyway, so they would just say "It's for women".

The response is cowardly and vague but it also makes very clear that when the question "can men attend" was asked, they immediately thought of "non-binary people" and "gender non-conforming people". In other words they understand that if these people are male they are men pretending to be something else. Otherwise why bring them into the "men" question?

HoppityBun · 04/11/2025 22:57

So… Men can attend. Can you find a man who’d be prepared to give it a go?

By “a man”, I mean an actual man,

BigGirlBoxers · 04/11/2025 22:59

I think it means: We don't know what we are doing or why. Plus, we are a bit scared.

Hear Here is forming

Is the event title a quote from Succession or The Thick of It? 😅

Jammington · 04/11/2025 23:54

I dunno, I actually read it as
Female
female agender
Female non binary
Female non gender confirming (aka trans men?)
In future they may consider letting allies (the lads) and all (everyone left which is nobody) too.

I think they're trying to say is for women, while not pissing off the woke folx. Which we all know they can't, it's impossible.

But the fact it's so unclear means it's desperate wordy old bollocks.

Bigneonsign · 05/11/2025 01:19

I also read it as no
Female only however they identify
No males, however they identify

They should have worded it better though.

Bigneonsign · 05/11/2025 01:25

ChatGPT agrees and suggests one of these to make it clearer

This event is a space for females only. That includes anyone born female, including trans men. It’s not open to males, including trans women.

This is a single-sex event for females only. All females are welcome, including trans men. This space is not open to males, including trans women.

Attendance at this event is limited to females only. This includes anyone who is female, regardless of gender identity (for example, trans men). It is not open to males, including trans women.

Id question their wording op but I don't think they want men there

Toutafait · 05/11/2025 01:31

They mean they'd like it to be for women, but they don't want to piss anyone who might come at them off, so it's for all those people too.

ChateauMargaux · 05/11/2025 01:35

Apologies for this flippant comment... but does gender non conforming include men who occasionally do the dishes or change a nappy?

SecretSquirrelLoo · 05/11/2025 07:54

Bizarre to say gender non-conforming women are welcome, when surely the whole point of the event is to encourage women not to conform to gender by being leaders?

Shortshriftandlethal · 05/11/2025 08:39

I think that sometimes these types of invitation to a women's event are trying to include women who identify as 'non-binary' or whatever; but in practice it, of course, means open to absolutely anyone, men included, as long as they declare the correct identity.

The word 'woman' has been colonised and usurped to mean anyone who is oppressed by 'the patriarchy'. 'The patriarchy' is where white, heterosexual, 'cis' men live.

Cattywillow · 05/11/2025 11:00

Female - comma - non-binary etc….. in other words everyone except bog standard men who ‘identify’ as men.

TheSandgroper · 05/11/2025 11:08

Good that you are welcome if you don’t want sex that day.
