Ha, mine is next to Starmer. Thanks for sharing this, done. I won't hold my breath for any sort of response!

I'm going to email Kyle to ask.

I sent a Freedom of Information request instead, assisted by ChatGPT.

littlbrowndog · 31/10/2025 21:41

its Iain Murray. Cant find him on the list

littlbrowndog · 31/10/2025 21:42

FranticFrankie · 31/10/2025 21:42

Thanks @PachacutisBadAuntie
I googled but nothing came up.
I want to know if my MP is on that list 😠

RogueFemale · 31/10/2025 21:40

I sent a Freedom of Information request instead, assisted by ChatGPT.

Dear Freedom of Information Team,
I am requesting, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, a copy of the letter reportedly sent by a group of approximately 50 Labour MPs to the Business Secretary, Peter Kyle, in or around October 2025, concerning proposed Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) guidance on gender recognition.
Specifically, I request:

  1. The names of all MPs who signed or endorsed the letter; and
  2. The text or copy of the letter itself (with any redactions that you consider necessary under FOIA).
I understand exemptions may apply, but I ask that, if so, you specify which exemptions are relied upon and why. Please provide the information in electronic form via email. Yours faithfully
PachacutisBadAuntie · 31/10/2025 22:25

Oh well done @RogueFemale . I am too Friday night for that kind of thing.

It does seem like it might cost some businesses a lot of money.

It's basically making introducing gender neutral facilities compulsory.

Many pubs and restaurants are really struggling.

NotInMyyName · 31/10/2025 23:04

I've added my tuppence worth using the template letter. I added this text in case it gives anyone else inspiration. I like numbers.

(Yes I know the Census Gender data was poor but I think I still made my point).

"The 2022 Scottish Census shows that there were approximately 266 people who identified as being either a transwoman or transman in the xxxx constituency. Using the same data source there were ~50,000 woman and girls aged 16 or over. Currently any of the men-who-want-to-be-woman think that they can freely and legally access woman only spaces (they cannot, and the Supreme Court judgement has confirmed that this has never been the case). The 50,000 women and girls in your constituency are being being forced to set aside their legal protection in favor of this TINY MINORITY. This situation also allows ANY OTHER man to claim being a transwoman to access single sex spaces."

Yes, I actually came on here to post the same thing. I've just emailed my MP, then forwarded the email to both Bridget Phillipson and Keir Starmer for good measure.

I composed my own email but it's fine to use the Sex Matters template if you don't have time. The most important thing is numbers and therefore pressure.

The best way to get your email seen by Ministers is to send your comments to them via your MP asking him/ her to pass it on. They're supposed to pass on constituents' communications intended for Ministers' attention & that way Ministers' staff don't get to use "not this MP's constituent, not this MP's responsibility" as an excuse to file it in the bin.

moto748e · 01/11/2025 00:19

Honestly, with the best will in the world, I would, but I doubt it'd get in front of her eyes anyway (the most I've ever had from previous emails was an auto acknowledgment from her office), and even if it did, what could I expect from someone who parades around in a "Protect the Dolls" t-shirt?

Contemporaneouslyagog · 01/11/2025 00:23

You email anyway . They ignore women because they expect us to stay quiet

IwantToRetire · 01/11/2025 01:54

A lot of this has been covered on the other thread!

If you want to find out who the 50 MPs are, ask the Guardian who wrote the story.

And say unless they can prove there were 50 MPs by naming them you will report them to the Press Council for false news fabricated to suit their ediorial position.

Done. Have lurked too long on this topic. The template was a great first step in de-lurking. Will await any response with interest.

womanwithissues · 01/11/2025 07:21

Really useful template. Sent to my MP.

CatHugger · 01/11/2025 07:25

Done. Great template - it took less than a minute and most people do that was trying to remember my MP's name. She's been fairly sympathetic in the past so I hope this gives her a prod to do something.

hholiday · 01/11/2025 07:31

Oh Lord, you've got one of those, useless on everything else as well presumably.

All this show me is that the labour party think that laws are like pick and mix, and i thought that was just the last few tory governments….silly me !

SpookyQ · 01/11/2025 08:59

Done!

I’ve never done anything like that before, but it was so easy!

It does seem like it might cost some businesses a lot of money.

It's basically making introducing gender neutral facilities compulsory.

Many pubs and restaurants are really struggling.

Most small pubs and restaurants tend already to have single occupancy facilities which anyone can use and sometimes an accessible toilet too. They would not need to change anything.

All that is required in many other instances is one additional self contained 'neutral' facility alongside the existing single sex provisions.
