Hobbycraft employee badge - no terfs, no Tories

ItsCoolForCats · 27/10/2025 18:36

Another example of why bringing your whole self to work is a terrible idea.

Hobbycraft seems to be busy trying to mitigate the fallout, presumably because they know which demographic spends the most money there.

EXCLUSIVE: Perthshire designer 'ordered to leave' Dundee Hobbycraft shop after transgender rights badge row

Crieff woman Rebekah Chapman claims she was subjected to "intolerance and nasty slogans" after complaining about a staff member's "no terfs, no Tories" badge.

Good grief, grow up.

Yeah, vermin it's Stoic Week someone needs to take that course!

MarvellousMonsters · 28/10/2025 10:12

TripTrapTripTrapTrip · 28/10/2025 09:48

if you are okay with going round hating and considering vermin a huge percentage of the people you come across in daily life, you carry on @MarvellousMonsters, and others on the thread saying similar.

Personally I couldn’t live with myself feeling (and stoking) that level of hatred of my fellow humans.

If your political beliefs makes you hate so many people, there’s something wrong with your political beliefs.

“If your political beliefs makes you hate so many people, there’s something wrong with your political beliefs.”

You're referring to the Tory Party, right?

MarvellousMonsters · 28/10/2025 10:14

Good grief, grow up.

I’m guessing that you weren’t negatively impacted by the Tory govt over the last 14 years, only someone privileged enough to not be affected by their cuts and fuckery would say this.

No, I’m referring to you. You’ve admitted it yourself so I’ve no idea why you’re now trying to project your feelings onto others.

Is dehumanising extremism something people grow out of?

38thparallel · 28/10/2025 10:37

So if this Hobbycraft assistant had worn a badge saying 'No Trans. No Socialists' ... that would be acceptable?

@MarvellousMonsters are you going to answer this question?

SidewaysOtter · 28/10/2025 10:41

<checks calendar> Oh, I see it's half term. That would probably account for the 'All T0RieS aRE eVIL!!!11' level of debate Hmm

zazazaaar · 28/10/2025 10:42

I work in an industry that about 99% are left leaning and almost certainly hate the Tories as we have seen what they've done to our sector. However I would never wear a badge that stated this!

As for TERFs probably about 80 of the women are to some degree as quite pragmatic!

SerafinasGoose · 28/10/2025 10:42

I'm not fond of the Tories either, albeit these dates vote red or vote blue, you get pretty much the same thing. This isn't the point though. They're a legitimate, non-extremist, centre right political party. In a democracy others won't hold the same views as us and can vote in accordance with those principles.

The only 'intolerant' party here is the badge-wearer, and the complainant was quite right to raise this as an issue.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 28/10/2025 08:50

I think I would have gone in there, loaded up a trolley with the most expensive stuff, let that person ring it all through and then said "oh you don't want my custom then" and walked out

That's a good idea! I spend a bloody fortune in there.

DiscoBob · 28/10/2025 10:45

It's behind a pay wall and archive not working?

Greyskybluesky · 28/10/2025 10:45

Perhaps customers should be filtered at the store entrance so they can be matched at the checkout by someone who shares their political belief?

I can imagine the announcement over the tannoy "terf staff to till please. Terf waiting".

How do the self-service tills fit into this? I've never encountered an anti-Tory one so far, they've always been quite polite.

In no just society should it ever be unacceptable to refuse to serve fascists.

Have her points hit a nerve with you, soulless Tory?

I'm not that poster and I've never voted for a right wing party in my life, but do you really not see how you come across here? It's fucking embarrassing and yes, it's deeply immature. If you wish to live in an authoritarian state rather than the pluralistic one we do and you can't get over your blind hatred of people with different views to you without casting aspersions on people's characters, might I suggest North Korea may be more suitable? I have to say, I suspect it's more than "disagreeing" - I doubt you've ever lowered yourself to speak to anyone you deem "on the other side" lest they 'taint' you, so I wouldn't be too sure you do actually know what they think, who they are, or how they may have reached the conclusions they have.

It's people like you who continue to leave the left in the mess it's in and who've handed the likes of Reform an open goal. Thanks a bunch. I'm really not sure how you think this approach helps. How exactly are you intending to prevent people from voting Tory or Reform or voting for who you want them to instead? Do you think you're being persuasive or will change anything when you call people names like "soulless Tory"? They mostly just laugh at you & carry on.

Hi Swift

You were very active on the grooming gangs threads yesterday, explaining to us that "the authorities" should have worked with "community elders" to solve the problem "in house", and this should all have been subject to strict reporting restrictions to minimise the threat of the plebs kicking off.

I think it's fair to say you had your arse handed to you, and you displayed very little knowledge of what happened, and very little compassion for the victims. And in fact you're back this morning sneering at working class people in Rotherham.

Perhaps you should go away and reflect for a while before coming back here to deploy the Big Waggy Finger.

usedtobeaylis · 28/10/2025 11:03

When I worked on retail you could barely wear earrings never mind your political beliefs.

Given Swift's insistence that Islam is the best Abrahamic religion when it comes to women's rights, I think that after their stay in North Korea, some time in Afghanistan would be a good idea.

In no just society should it ever be acceptable to refuse to serve anyone for holding a political belief allowed by the laws of that society. Unless by serving them you are being required to agree or appear to agree with their views.

This really is half term, isn’t it?

It's definitely an indication of an evolved and just society when this is arbitrarily determined by teenagers wearing pin badges in the course of their retail job.

CassOle · 28/10/2025 11:09

I would suggest that Swift then time-travels to East Germany, but I have a feeling that the Stasi and the Socialist Unity Party of Germany would be their natural home.
