Well said Julie. It's profoundly depressing how the idea that prostitution is a woman's free and willing choice has become the "progressive" viewpoint. It's not a view that supports women in prostitution, just one that promotes & normalises access to bodies for the punters.

I haven’t read the spectator article, did the reporter go undercover and give hand jobs to total strangers? If it’s such a legitimate career choice, why not try it out for a day or two?

I’d like to conduct an experiment. I’d like to get every woman in the U.K. to sit their husband down, make him look them in the eye and swear he has never visited a prostitute. I have a feeling we’d be shocked by the results. It’s just so easy for men these days. They could be laying next to their wife in bed while swiping through images of dozens of attractive young escorts. The temptation must be overwhelming. When it comes to sex, men are just not like women.

I think I read somewhere that one in three men have paid for sex. Of course, they’re the ones who admit it. The real figure is probably even higher. There are often threads on MN by women who’ve caught their husbands visiting escorts. But imagine how many are never caught.

The tweet is from April 2024. It's probably the article written by the theatre Critic around that time, Lloyd Evans(?). I think he was so turned on by a show he'd seen he had to go off and buy a woman's body. Writing about it possibly helped to recoup what she cost him.

I had a huge amount of help from an amazing charity who work with women involved in prostitution (mostly street workers, which I have been as well- when I got out I was homeless). Honestly I wouldn't be alive without them.

I made a mistake upthread. It wasn't a show, it was a female historian giving a lecture.

That is utterly repulsive. How are these men audacious enough to say exactly how disgusting they are out loud?

If sex work is such an attractive career why aren’t the men who are fathers not recommending it to their daughters and wives as a career?

I used to do admin work for local vice squad. Sometimes I'd be standing at the school gate and seeing dads picking up their kids when the night before they'd been cruising the vice area and picking up a prostitute.

To be honest it bothered me less than sorting out arrest paperwork from the previous night and seeing a woman I knew who'd been arrested for soliciting..

The one that upset me most was a pregnant teenager who went into labour and had to be rushed to hospital. I felt sorry for her soliciting at nine months and also for the baby.
