Oh thank goodness for that. I must admit I don’t understand on what basis the appeal was made, given that there was no new evidence or new arguments made about the case. It seems to have been a repeat of the first trial, albeit a lot quicker to reach a conclusion.

As I understand it the French system does not require specific grounds for appeal, in the same way the British system does. Either party in the case have the right to seek an appeal after initial conviction, if they are not satisfied with the outcome.
