... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

Love this

I love a homework avoidance project. DS wants a blanket for college too (said he’d feel very hurt if he didn;t get one too) and, as he’ll get a double bed (he’s nearly 6ft 4), it’ll need to be twice the size of his sister’s… am wondering whether I might need to invest in a knitting machine as I really think I would be setting myself up for a year of late nights (and stress over the unfinished novel/PhD) if I knit it properly by hand…

Swashbuckled · 03/10/2025 21:34

You should try it, Cautious. It’s so easy and, yes, the hound prefers human food too. I also like knowing what’s in it.

Do the PhD book. Said in my best lecturer voice.

Hello everybody, could I have a cup of very strong tea please gerbils?

I've just woken up after totally crashing out - late night reading till 2am followed by tribunalling [I appreciate the job you do Myrtle!] is obvs too much for my limited energy levels😒
but I enjoyed both, and I've caught up with myself, and I'll be grand after a cuppaSmile

Swash Marie is good at dealing with that side of things but big clues do help.
au contraire Swash I'm completely foxed by name changes - I've embarrassed myself by bounding up Tigger-like to welcome someone new to the Bluestocking only to have her raise a lorgnette to examine me coldly and say 'I beg your pahdon, I'm actually one of the founding membahs'.

Well that's a bit of an exaggeration, nobody has actually done that😄but that's how I feel when I get it wrong😐
Haven't a clue about Taz's new name but I'm not exactly at my brightest this evening!

Swashbuckled · 03/10/2025 21:36

Teddy fainting with ecstasy made me chuckle ☺️.

I mixed in a hard boiled egg for the hound this week. He was thrilled. Yes, dogs will probably eat anything.

OMG BooK Nook looks a bit complicated!! Who else did this one? 😮

Your Book Nook has Swash's galleon in itSmile

Swashbuckled · 03/10/2025 21:43

I think I’ve said it before, Marie, but I do see you as the new girl monitor. I find myself sitting there baffled thinking “Where’s Marie when you need her?” and praying you do the bounding up Tigger thing. I just do the equivalent of smiling and nodding politely at them (with rabbit caught in the headlights eyes and fixed grin); completely vacuous engagement whilst hoping you hurry up 🤣

I’m out of my depth here, Taz. Would it help to know the thread that inspired you?

Can’t wait to get started on it. Going to lay it out on the dining room table and set up my lap top next to it. Going to give myself 20mins play for every 1000 words I get written…

Thank you Swash, I suppose I'd rather err on the side of over-welcoming than under-welcoming somebody who is, or seems to be newSmile

Sounds like a good alt name. Maybe along with RighteousPoster…

sorry should have quoted Taz’s post for that one

oh and if you are looking for the thread, i think we’re referencing Tandora’s ‘little bit of insight’ thread?

Swashbuckled · 03/10/2025 21:53

Is there a risk you’ll get glue on your hands that will transfer to the laptop keys? Or do you have a plan for that?

hmmm… pampers babywipes are fricking awesome for getting glue off (hands, that is)? Met loads of tradesmen who use them now…

Oh, I started that but gave up on it. Well done to others for persevering.

I’m not crocheting a baby blanket and ignoring the article I said I’d write by the end of this month. No. Not me 🤣

Swashbuckled · 03/10/2025 21:59

Ah, Taz. I was out of my depth before because I was on the app and the app doesn’t do BIGLY letters. I’ve just switched and I understand now 🙂

Thing is, I want to learn to crochet properly too!!

I am concerned my post doc research may stall given all the craft projects I want to do…

The total and utter lack of insight thread! The OP seemed to think they knew exactly what was going on in Upton's head...heid?...it was a bit disturbing.

I think I've seen your new moniker in action @Taztoy.

Loved our chat Myrtle. Thank you for not eating me.

MarieDeGournay · 03/10/2025 22:10

I really like strangers.

The other day when I was shopping I got into one of those you go ahead/no you go ahead dances with a woman - she insisted 'No, you go ahead' and I told her that was a wise decision as she was standing between me and the chocolate. She replied 'Yeah I saw you had that look in your eye and decided I'd best get out of your way!'😂

Then I had a lovely interaction with two workmen who I offered to let go ahead of me in the queue as they were on their lunch break and only had sandwiches and drinks. Not only did they decline, but we chatted and one of them carried my basket all the way up to the check-out for me. They were strangers to each other, so three strangers had a lovely interaction - and there was also the funny interaction with the chocolate woman.I

I like strangers, so if one appears the Bluestocking, I'm happy to engageSmile

Worse than that, one of their final posts basically said that we were the ones denying reality. Don’t think you can reason with deluded people. It’s the closest I’ve come to interacting with conspiracy theorists.
