... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

I like friendly strangers too although I'm quite introverted. Perhaps it's the interaction and then we can get on with our day? A bit of banter, a chance to be helpful, then never see them again.

Swashbuckled · 03/10/2025 22:29

Yes, I get it too. It’s like a little riff with someone without all the history and ties. Brightens the day.

MarieDeGournay · 03/10/2025 22:35

I think you're both right there - it's just pure and simple human-to-human interactionSmile

They had finely chopped beef for dinner, heated slightly in warm water and accompanied by a small quantity of mousse-style cat food. Supper was the posh cooked chicken - pieces rather than reconstituted slices.

She condescended to gobble it all up, and didn't even charge over to steal his supper until he'd almost finished it.

yes yes, rod for my own back, I know

Talking of making a rod for your own back...

Mine demands the same type of items each day, & if I add anything in as a treat, he thinks he should have it every day from then on, with the result that when he's had his lunch (which used to be his dinner, but he's worked it backwards till it's a ridiculously early lunch now), he has to have cheese Dreamies, a cheese stick & cheese Treats by Asda, which are crunchy biscuits. If I try not to give him something, he demands & whinges & asks & fake-bites me & sits under the counter where the cheese things are, begging. He's the most persistent cat I've ever met. It's a good thing he's so handsome & occasionally ridiculously affectionate.

Good grief! You are completely under your cat's non-existent [assuming he's not polydactyl - I've done my research] thumb, Android!😃

Having sporadic prosopagnosia, I meet a lot of strangers, including some I was chatting to 10 minutes before. 😂

There's a lovely FB account I've just discovered which puts up some good introvert stuff.

FB randomly showed me some of their posts & I realised I'd found my people.

My first dog was a fussy eater, DH used to drive to Asda to buy a rotisserie chicken for him when he was young (we’d eat the breasts, he preferred the dark meat. When we visited MiL she’d buy him steak and cook it in butter.
He got significantly better (though still picky) after he’d been neutered.

I drove behind a car today that had a bumper sticker reading “Don’t honk if you’re an introvert.”

Teddy was the reverse of picky when young because he'd been a street pup. Ripping up binbags and eating the contents a speciality, curry left overs particularly welcome. Oh, and stealing any rodent a cat had killed (though he could and did kill them himself)

Which was partly what made that sudden total focus when he heard me crack and whisk eggs, and smelt the butter on the pan, so funny. Even better than rats and garbage, my cheese omelettes.

MarieDeGournay · 04/10/2025 10:31

Teddy was a lucky pup, DeanoSmile
I mean that literally, not as my Dub father used to use it, as an expression of slightly grudging admiration or congratulation:
'Yeh lucky pup!'

Neighbours of mine have two rescued/retired greyhounds, and they [the hounds] are so lovely and loving, it is obvious that they feel they are 'lucky pups' because they know they are now safe with people who just let them do what they want to do - which the owners tell me is just lying around a lot and being fed treats. They still do a bit of running after tennis balls, but it's more loping than running.

Like Teddy, lucky pups to have found loving humansSmile

I would edit the git to gut but it made me laugh.

I also liked "futility room".

Hand sanitiser while at desk. Soap and water otherwise.

Now I have the box I am a bit daunted. But those pictures remind me how cool it will look in my study when it’s finished!

It took a while, but it's a really good quality one. Most of the others are smaller. I have two outstanding from before I had my operation.

MyrtleLion · 04/10/2025 13:24

Easiest Scarf in the World is finished.

The Walrus has now nicked it because it's long and he's tall. 🤣 It's nice to have made something that someone will wear though.

Update on my ankle:
Massively swollen, warm and red with infection this morning. I sort of think this is because I'm on antibiotics and the bacteria is fighting back, creating inflammatory conditions as it dies.

It is fine for now but I will seek help if the inflammation gets worse.

I've had to move back into the larger boot. Fortunately the dressing is doing a great job, but I'm feeling a bit miserable. The Walrus has come down with a viral thing and is very unwell but is keeping going. I have never known him to take a day off, though he has WFH for 20 years, so I think he goes slow/dozes in his chair.

I have had a milder version so I feel bad he's having to run up and down stairs to support me again.

Gorgeous scarf Myrtle (is it knitted or crocheted?)

So sorry you’re both poorly. It’s miserable, especially when ill together. Hope a couple of days rest and antibiotics gets you both feeling a bit better.

DeanElderberry · 04/10/2025 13:39

Hugs to lion and walrus, life is so not fair.

Everone's physiology is different, but in the past I've found that I get over virus/bacterial infection cycles more quickly if I eat huge quantities of protein, particularly meat.

We don't eat many carbs at all - lots of protein: omelettes, live yoghurt, chicken. I also have montelukast for my asthma which has significantly reduced the number and severity of chest infections.

MarieDeGournay · 04/10/2025 14:02

What a wonderful BookNook that is Myrtle! I want to become small enough to live thereSmile
I spotted Swash's galleon, under the dinosaur skeleton.

And a beautiful scarf - I remember your instructions for knitting it, but a small part of my brain exploded at the thought of casting on...was it 300 stitches??
It looks lovely, and better still it looks like it was really really difficult to knitWink

So sorry your ankle is bad today, I hope it is a matter of getting worse before it gets better, when the anti-bios get the upper hand.

I hope Mr Walrus feels better soon too.

That reminds me to check in on Woley's FIL's wellbeing?

And how are you today Fuzzy? You seemed to have got over the post-jab one-day-awfulness, but then you weren't feeling great again yesterday.
Hope you are better today.

That should stand to you - hope you both get better asap, you've been having a tough time.
