Petition to Ben "Queer" Flags

SourdoughMama · 26/09/2025 21:43

I'm not entirely sure I personally endorse this, and in any case I think doing a gov UK petition would force me to out myself.

But given the Governments action against Palestine Action, Shouldn't we consider ( or at least talk about ) banning these misogynist homophobic religious flags?

Do you mean ban the queer flags? And what petition are you referring to?

i have not voted as am not sure what you mean.

Sorry it's rather late...( and friday night ),

I had been thinking about posting one of those petitions to that gov petition board thing that if it gets enough votes gets talked about in parliament, with the topic of the petition being "Ban the queer/nonbinary/trans/etc flags in the same way they banned palestine action"

Is this even a good idea though?

(Also would I need to out myself as GC to start such a petition )

But then where does it end? If you’re going to ban one flag, you’d have to ban all flags.

Yes, it’s a silly idea. The OP seems new here, I’ve no idea what their motivation is.
palestine action was declared a terrorist organisation (rightly or wrongly, whole other debate!) after vandalising military aircraft.

Honestly, yeah I feel the same.

But its happening anyway ( like with Palestine action, or Jimmy Kimmel), and wouldn't declaring this whole GI stuff to be terrorist nonsense be a really effective way of winning?

no. Hmm

InTheWellBeing · 26/09/2025 22:13

I’m not sure how I feel about a Ben on flags.

Bannedontherun · 26/09/2025 22:13

The core of queer ideology is “no debate” in its fractured and disparate, top down politics it is to fundamental to deny freedom of speech, to anyone who disagrees.

A fundamental principal of a liberal democracy is the right to freedom of expression.

As a GC person myself I demand the right to speak against this movement and have freedom of speech, and that must mean everyone even those one disagrees with.

I am an abolitionists and believe that even racist ideas must be allowed to be expressed, as long as it is within the law.

eatfigs · 26/09/2025 22:14

But the Palestine flag hasn't been banned. So what is the parallel here?

CohensDiamondTeeth · 26/09/2025 22:14

No it's not a good idea IMO.

You essentially want to ban some dyed cloth (or representations of it in pictures) which is quite extreme IMO, but then my personal way of dealing with the multitude of different new flags has been to have a bit of an internal eye roll at them all.

Why do you want to ban it?

I'd like to see the LGB community reclaim the rainbow flag at some point though.

No. We already have an effective way of "winning", that is facts and sensible level headed discussion. Banning things like flags isn't the way to go I don't think.

gayhistorynerd · 26/09/2025 22:22

I don't see the equivalence here, OP. Palestine Action, regardless of whether or not you agree with the legal choices against them, are a direct action network with founders and organisation. While it is now illegal to "support" them or express support for them as a group, it is not illegal to support the same causes separately from Palestine Action. People are still free to fly Palestinian flags, wear keffiyeh, and express their support for an independent Palestinian state.

Are you suggesting that the displaying of any and all queer flags is supporting a specific proscribed terrorist organisation? If not, do you have a specific organisation in mind you think should be proscribed, who have a history of terrorist crime to back up a proscription? Which flags specifically do you think should be banned; the trans flag, the Gilbert Baker rainbow, the purple labrys flag, the progress pride flag, the bisexual flag, the pink triangle?

"Queer flags" don't really signify any one set of beliefs, and certainly not support for any one organisation. Surely you can see how this would negatively impact the entire LGBT community?

Timeforabitofpeace · 26/09/2025 22:36

You are off your trolley, frankly, OP.

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 26/09/2025 22:38

Of course 'banning queer flags' is a ridiculous idea, and I wonder what the OP's motivation is in posting it.

Firstly, I don't know how i feel about this, a friend showed me a video of some American Politico saying they should declared Antifa and Transgenderism as terrorist organisations.

I want to make some points though :
(apologies idk how to do formatting here)
you say " People are still free to fly Palestinian flags, wear keffiyeh" - yes, but isn't there a debate that exists around the hajib and other forms of wear as misogynist oppression?

"Are you suggesting that the displaying of any and all queer flags is supporting a specific proscribed terrorist organisation?" aren't those wearing and flying the trans flag promoting homophobic and misogynist hate?

"Surely you can see how this would negatively impact the entire LGBT community" I can see how the homophobic "trans" community has hurt the LGB community, leading to the need for organisations like the LGBA, the Lesbian project, Lesbian Labour, Gay mans network, etc.....

I'm saying this is a serious question that we all should ask - although I accept I possibly put it in a more populist way initially

Ben Afflick? 🤔

ohfook · 26/09/2025 22:46

No it’s a shit idea. Banning things that don’t cause physical harm just because you don’t like them is rarely a good idea.

This.

If the pride flag isn't allowed then don't put up the gender critical one either.

Fortunately, as far as I can see no one who has bothered to comment thinks this is a good idea - no one is banning any flags.

Better than Ben Stiller

FleurDeFleur · 26/09/2025 23:01

I agree with pp. It's not a good idea. I see the Palestinian flag being flown all the time, so your argument is completely flawed with that comparison.
I don't think any should be banned.

Well this thread attracted a TRA or two just wondering if it will turn into a flock.
