Petition to Ben "Queer" Flags

SourdoughMama · 26/09/2025 21:43

I'm not entirely sure I personally endorse this, and in any case I think doing a gov UK petition would force me to out myself.

But given the Governments action against Palestine Action, Shouldn't we consider ( or at least talk about ) banning these misogynist homophobic religious flags?

No it’s a shit idea. Banning things that don’t cause physical harm just because you don’t like them is rarely a good idea.

I think everyone here recognises the harm done by gender ideology,

Firstly, I don't know how i feel about this, a friend showed me a video of some American Politico saying they should declared Antifa and Transgenderism as terrorist organisations.

I want to make some points though :
(apologies idk how to do formatting here)
you say " People are still free to fly Palestinian flags, wear keffiyeh" - yes, but isn't there a debate that exists around the hajib and other forms of wear as misogynist oppression?

"Are you suggesting that the displaying of any and all queer flags is supporting a specific proscribed terrorist organisation?" aren't those wearing and flying the trans flag promoting homophobic and misogynist hate?

"Surely you can see how this would negatively impact the entire LGBT community" I can see how the homophobic "trans" community has hurt the LGB community, leading to the need for organisations like the LGBA, the Lesbian project, Lesbian Labour, Gay mans network, etc.....

I'm saying this is a serious question that we all should ask - although I accept I possibly put it in a more populist way initially

Transgenderism isn't an organisation though.

Debate sure, but we haven't banned the hajib here in the UK.

Are they though? I know that we see TRAs carrying signs calling for violence, and have all read enough of the MRA arguments here to know the ideology is inherently homophobic and misogynist, but that doesn't mean that every person with a trans identity is homophobic or misogynist. I see a lot of vulnerable or traumatised young people who aren't homophobic or misogynist (or the misogyny is internalised misogyny in the young girls), these young people have been lead up the garden path.

Edited because I posted earlier by accident without adding my comments.

It’s not the flags that do the harm. Banning symbols just feeds persecution complexes.

Of course 'banning queer flags' is a ridiculous idea, and I wonder what the OP's motivation is in posting it.

I've just used the advanced search function and now I'm wondering too, I thought at first it was maybe someone who just hadn't really thought this through and had overreacted, but I think it's possible I might have been wrong about that.

TempestTost · 27/09/2025 01:07

No, I think this is a bad idea.

They are stupid flags imo but I think people can put them up if they want to.

It's a bit differernt than the flag of a terrorist organisation (whether anyone agrees or not about particular organisations I think a terrorist flag might be reasonable to ban.).

Christinapple · 26/09/2025 22:48

This.

If the pride flag isn't allowed then don't put up the gender critical one either.

There’s a gender critical flag now? Are you sure you’re not just imagining things there?

Maybe they mean the suffragette colours? I’d really hope that GC women are far too sensible to want another bloody flag.

Re the OP, are they from the US? Hopefully not posted in bad faith to smear FWR.

There is absolutely no reason to ban the trans flag or its many ridiculous variations. The way forward is with facts, evidence and reason.

Agree with this though: I'd like to see the LGB community reclaim the rainbow flag at some point though.

I’m not sure how I feel about a Ben on flags.

Depends which Ben, I'd imagine?

I’m not sure how I feel about a Ben on flags.

In Scotland, Bens are mountains. So one could put a flag on a Ben, but not the other way round.

OP, this is daft.

Well this thread attracted a TRA or two just wondering if it will turn into a flock.

Tbh the suggestion of banning a RSOH flag is the ultimate catnip for any TRA/teenage kid.

No need to ban any flag. Let misogynists and homophobes out themselves in this way, if they need to, rather than with violence.

Let's just KBO.

TheProfoundlyPeculiarPointOfPete · 27/09/2025 07:49

(And obviously if any Ben is going on a flag it's Ben Cooper.... no debate)

ArabellaSaurus · 27/09/2025 07:51

A flag with a wren! On top of a Ben.

ProfoundlyPeculiarAndWeird · 27/09/2025 07:54

I'm imagining the flag wrapped around the cartoon character Mr Ben. It would make perfect sense. Pretty sure he fancied the shopkeeper, and also that there were lots of 'dressing-up adventures' that didn't make it into the kids' TV series.

(On a more serious note, the suggestion in the OP is so weird and extreme that I think it may be designed to incite intolerance and make MN look ridiculous. )

Having seen the OP's contributions on at least one other thread, I think you have hit the nail on the head.

ApplebyArrows · 27/09/2025 11:22

Palestine Action are a violent terrorist organisation whose actions, among other things, include attacking police officers with sledgehammers. The LGBT flag, while distasteful, is not in the same league.

ThatBlackCat · 27/09/2025 12:23

It is under the 'progressive' (if ever there is an oxymoron, this is it!) flag and especially the transgender flag that crowds are whipped up to 'punch a terf' and do all sorts of violence to women and girls. Personally I agree they should be declared terrorist flags and banned. But it's never going to happen, so trying to ban them is a waste of time. What we'd like, and what will actually happen are two entirely different things.

DiscoBob · 27/09/2025 12:26

SourdoughMama · 26/09/2025 21:59

Sorry it's rather late...( and friday night ),

I had been thinking about posting one of those petitions to that gov petition board thing that if it gets enough votes gets talked about in parliament, with the topic of the petition being "Ban the queer/nonbinary/trans/etc flags in the same way they banned palestine action"

Is this even a good idea though?

(Also would I need to out myself as GC to start such a petition )

I'd imagine people would assume you were either GC, or possibly less accurately, homophobic if you raised such a petition.

If it's to point out the injustice of banning Palestine flags, then two wrongs don't make a right do they?

PinkFrogss · 27/09/2025 14:40

Oh dear OP you’ll have to think of something a bit more creative to get screenshots from. And maybe proof read before posting next time too.
