MN has made me pink and I am outraged at the stereotyping!

I feel that I have been taken over by aliens.

All my posts are now pink.

And OP posts are now the blue that used to be the colour on MNHQ posts.

Confused

I like the new colours :)

No, the big red buttons identifying every one of a user's own posts, which serve no purpose in 'light'/standard mode & can't be turned off. If an abusive partner was looking over his victim's shoulder while she looked at the site, or used her computer/phone when she'd left herself logged in, he could immediately see what she'd written & know that it was her. She could then be in danger because of what she'd written.

Good point. I hadn't even thought about that, apart from finding it irritating.

Petitchat · 19/09/2025 17:16

ifIwerenotanandroid · 19/09/2025 12:17

You mean people with eye conditions, migraine susceptibility &/or good taste?

Or people with autism...

I've switched to 'dark mode' as I wasn't too keen on the updated 'light mode', and I think I prefer it now. I should have switched to 'dark mode' sooner.

They're about to change the background colours of posts in dark mode.😬

Of all the things in the world to be offended by this barely features. People need to get a grip.

Typical my world is okay so everything must be alright.

If you read the MN official thread there are many, many post from users who are actually negatively impacted by the changes, because of visual impairments.

Just in the time that I have spent catching up on that thread, I now have the type of headache I would normally only get from being stuck in a room with bright over head lights.

I shouldn't need strong painkillers to be able to use MN.

Have suggested on the main thread on site stuff to use the report function on MNHQ OP to let them know.

Angry Sad

I tried this last night, but found it difficult to use.

Maybe I should give it another go.

I ended up skim reading the official thread, but it seems some really strange decision to not just delete a post, but delete the name of the poster.

And some other strange things. (I didn't take notes - sorry!)

But seems serious in terms of how the forums actually function.

OP posts:
TempestTost · 19/09/2025 17:33

Not sure if I like the new colours, I'm fairly close to indifferent really, but I do like that my posts are no longer such a similar colour to the OPs posts.

Beeinalily · 19/09/2025 17:38

@ifIwerenotanandroid oh my goodness, I see what you mean. Terrible idea. Thank you for explaining, I can be a bit dense sometimes.

Mumsnet HQ has posted that this is a bug and they're working on fixing it. Quite why such a bug should appear during a merely cosmetic update, well, your guess is as good as mine.

If the colour f the font on a web site is the worst thing you have to worry about, you are incredibly fortunate.

If the colour f the font on a web site is the worst thing you have to worry about, you are incredibly fortunate.

But it's not just the colour of the font. 🙄It's the washed-out background colours for posts, the garishly bright blue of buttons, headers and footers and the eye-straining, migraine-inducing brightness and lack of contrast. All these things have been unnecessarily introduced, just because some people thought a colour "refresh" would be a good thing and they're making the site virtually unusable for people with visual impairments, proneness to migraine or autism. What business deserves to flourish when it deliberately makes its public face less attractive to customers?

Mum4MrA · 19/09/2025 19:05

I agree with the royal blue being headache inducing. Will have to reduce the length of time I spend on Mumsnet & do something productive.

MissKomodoDragonsBrunch · 19/09/2025 19:10

NotBadConsidering · 19/09/2025 11:10

No, MNHQ are the only ones who can delete posts. But read my sentence in full: posts can be deleted and no one can have any idea who it was. They now look like this:

Thank you - as I previously posted, this new colour scheme has induced a severe headache and I’m finding it difficult.

IwantToRetire · 19/09/2025 19:46

Dark mode didn't really work for me, but then I gave up because for some reason on the list of posts the option to see posts in order of recently added doesn't show. No wonder there are so many duplicate threads!

OP posts:
SapphireSeptember · 19/09/2025 20:53

The green looks more like beige. Someone was talking about 'greigeification' on YouTube the other day and it seems Mumsnet has fallen victim to it too! 😭 Bugger off. It's already taken over all my favourite make up brands. 🥺

whatwouldafeministdo · 19/09/2025 21:24

OMG I love dark mode.

You're welcome. It didn't occur to me either, but plenty of other people have pointed it out.

I've no idea what the buttons were for (except that some people didn't realise they could change colour settings to make OP's/their own posts show up, so maybe they asked for them) & no idea why the MN proposal is to leave them in but allow users to turn them off. Their only use seems to be for dark mode - but MN proposes to change the background colours to posts here too, so... shrugs

IwantToRetire · 20/09/2025 02:04

Someone on the official thread suggested that it might be something to do with the level of contrast, and many agreed and have changed their settings. But also pointed out totally mad to change your settings for one web site.

I tried that, and on other websites I use often lowering the level of contrast makes most of them seem quite dim, but strangely coming back on FWR it is almost as though it is back lit. Except the post colours which look like they have faded in the sun.

Hard to understand but particularly late at night when I am tired, it really is uncomfortable to use.

Confused

I agree. I've just come on after looking at the Met Office website, with its black text and decent contrast, and my entire screen seemed to glow blue on the home page, making me actually squint. Really uncomfortable with so much blue, especially blue text on a blue background which is horrible to read if your sight isn't good.

It does seem to be the blue.

Have only just come back on the site, with the dimmed setting I made last night, and somehow this shade of blue sort of zings into the eyes.

Really uncomfortable.

And as for the anti Suffragette banning of good tones of green and purple, its almost like a slap in the face to loyal users.

Sad

Plus the refusal to just give us the old post background colours as options, which would make no difference whatsoever to MNHQ, who can't know or care what colours users actually choose. Why on earth are they insisting it has to be these ghastly new colours, maybe darkened a little?

IwantToRetire · 22/09/2025 17:46

KatyMumsnet · Today 12:59
The changes are currently in progress, and we’ve also agreed to add the classic colours back in. These will be available for you to select within your customisation options.

KatyMumsnet · Today 17:13
You can now turn the 'My Post' and 'Original Poster' labels off in your settings: https://www.mumsnet.com/settings/talk
We've also changed 'My Posts' to 'My Post'. The other changes are in progress!
