Flipping Furries

Went out for the day with a mate to Haworth, and decided we'd do the steam train route to get there. Headed down to the platform at the local station after we'd bought our rover ticket only to be greeted by about twenty furries. The vast majority were in full fur, with a few just in tails and masks.

JFC what a load of selfish morons. They annoyed the entire train, freaked out kids and dogs, ruined other people's photos, and at Oxenhope when the train stops for about 20 mins for photos, snacks etc, they monopolised the cab, in and out, taking photos, and nobody else had a chance. Health and safety was an issue due to these idiots slowly trying to climb in and out of the engine unit in full costume (and struggling to do so). What struck me was how entitled they all acted - very flamboyant, not leaving people alone, striking poses everywhere, very much wanting to be the centre of attention. A few pride and trans flags tied round people's necks, big old blokes with tails poking out their jeans, a lot of them being very touchy-feely, trying to explain themselves and their ethos to other users who weren't really interested - made everyone else feel pretty uncomfortable. I thought they just did this stuff at conventions and comic-cons and stuff?

Furries are sexual fetishists. It is not ok at all to do this in public they might as well be masturbating on the train.

MassiveWordSalad · 15/09/2025 11:54

Jesus they want to stay away from the firebox in all that polyester Confused

DolefullySingingMotherfucka · 15/09/2025 12:13

I've never dressed up in a furry costume and never had the least desire to, but I don't think I should have to rule it out simply because somebody's dog might not like it.

defrazzled · 15/09/2025 12:15

West Yorkshire innit, best not say anything or the police will come after you 🤐

No. But because it is a sexual fetish, that should probably rule out wearing such things in general public.

BundleBoogie · 15/09/2025 12:33

Let’s bring back the shaming of displaying sexual fetishes in public.

The emphasis of many fetishes around boundary transgression means that if normal public decency boundaries are relaxed (like allowing these people on the train in their fetish fear), they may have to escalate their behaviour to get their thrill.

A bit like a drug addict chasing the high and having to take more to achieve it.

This is a bad thing.

defrazzled · 15/09/2025 12:42

I just asked a colleague who volunteers at the steam train and she said that it is a whole thing "Furry Railfans" or "Furry Steampunks" is the sub genre. She said they piss the proper train spotters off and cause no end of trouble but no one dares say anything. Sounds familiar.

PauliesWalnuts · 15/09/2025 12:55

Does sound familiar. I don’t think they even left the railway - it’s a rover ticket so they just rode the train all afternoon, got off at each station to take photos of each other, and stood in the bar carriage getting in the way. They behaved very selfishly all day.

lcakethereforeIam · 15/09/2025 13:07

'rover ticket', I'm sorry that struck me as funny.

I don't know what can be done about people enjoying their fetishes out in public. It's one thing if they're wanking but if it's subtler (as if dressing as a giant rabbit is subtle) they've got plausible deniability. The thing is their behaviour was unacceptable and negatively affecting other customers. Their dress is almost by the way except it made them noticeable. If the Sealed Knot had showed up and behaved similarly, it would be equally annoying. Perhaps the owners of Heritage Railways should either ban all 'special' interest groups, or have specific days for them, like WW2 days, but make sure casual visitors are forewarned.

I agree. All this ‘being your true self’ not to mention ‘brave and stunning’ just encourages more outrageous behaviour.

@PauliesWalnuts I bet the majority were men.

Every day we hear about a fresh descent into hell

Today's entry is furry train spotters

HermioneWeasley · 15/09/2025 13:51

Forcing unconsenting members of the public to witness your fetish is abuse

these people disgust me. And that’s before you get to huge overlap between furries and adult nappy fetishists.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 15/09/2025 14:04

I was puzzled at first, as I thought the OP was talking about today, when the K&WVR isn't operating, and the line is blocked by engineering works between Haworth and Oxenhope stations. I was about to rubbish the story but fortunately re-read it.

And caused a nuisance for everyone else. And caused delays. And monopolized and ruined other people's opportunity to enjoy the trip. And imposed their opinions to people who didn't ask. And caused potential safety issues. But that's the "Be Kind" ethos, right?Be Kind TO US but don't expect us to reciprocate or even make the slightest concession of our impulses for anyone else bc we're getting our histrionics on and that's what's most important. Sounds like a group of people who truly are so, so oppressed!

But wearing it in public is part of the fetish.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/09/2025 14:35

Ha ha ha, this just encapsulates the whole masculine privilege trip ( in more senses than one). Playing trains AND dressing up as an animal to get your rocks off, AND inconveniencing women and children.

Give that man a dog biscuit.

mamagogo1 · 15/09/2025 15:03

Were they actually revealing anything they shouldn’t? If not how is it different from wearing other hobby clothes? Are you going to pan steam punk clothes because some like them in “that” way, how about goth clothes? mini skirts? those ghastly scrunch leggings that leave nothing to the imagination? Can I board a train dressed as a superhero?

we have decency laws and it doesn’t sound like they broke them so ignore, engaging is encouraging them, being disinterested is always the best way

TempestTost · 15/09/2025 15:17

I suspect that in a decade or two things will go the other way and we will go back to public shaming. That seems to be what happens when stuff like this goes too far.

Yep. Two were possibly women based on a much slighter build, but the rest were men.

Running a Heritage railway is financially difficult at the best of times, these people rely on the railway saying nothing for fear of a backlash that will shut them down- in other words these people use an unspoken blackmail to do as they like.

Velvian · 15/09/2025 17:18

Rover ticket. 🤣😂

Engaging in a sexual fetish with non consenting people, including children is really so messed up. This a movement that encourages children into it by manipulating their love of animals.

I don't know when the penny is going to drop with all the well-meaning and 'kind' bystanders and safeguarding of children vulnerable to this grooming (ND children) can be prioritised. Then surely society will connect the dots. I've been living in hope for several years now!

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 15/09/2025 17:23

I’d need to see a photo of this to decide I think.

Can I just remind people that we are talking about the train line where the film 'The Railway Children' was shot.

Utter sacrilege.
