Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Mandelson believed Epstein over victims and should go

This is a feminist issue. Mandelson has admitted that he chose to believe Epstein, who had at that point been convicted of sex trafficking children, over Epstein’s victims. Surely this choice makes him an unacceptable person to represent the UK? Why on Earth does Starmer think it’s ok to keep Mandelson in his position? I stand with the victims and it is not good enough for Mandelson to sheepishly apologise with the benefit of hindsight.

Good point, we know he's partial to accepting a loan and those big houses won't buy themselves...

Also totally OT, but hope your feeling better.

Thank you, yes, getting there!

I'd like to take responsibility for his sacking, because I emailed my MP this morning. 😂

Good for you!

Excellent commentary on this from Stella Tsantekidou. She’s right, Starmer has to go scorched earth on Mandelson and not stop til he gets to the bottom of every Epstein link across the British political spectrum:

Bit late after he declared ‘full confidence’ a few days ago.

It’s hardly late, unless you are actually advocating Starmer do nothing. Mandelson going should not be the end. That s the point.

I have no desire to protect any of them don’t worry. Starmer is accountable on this too.

RayonSunrise · 11/09/2025 13:01

Good, I’m glad we’re in agreement. I suspect we’re going to find a lot of British politicians have been a little too close to Epstein for comfort, and Labour should not be the only party feeling nervous. Bring it on.

Pollyanna87 · 11/09/2025 13:28

The emails read as though Mandelson had a crush on Epstein.

TeenagersAngst · 11/09/2025 13:42

Foolsgold74 · 11/09/2025 11:40

Stamer was daft to come out to back him so vociferously when a storm was brewing. He could have made a holding statement instead.

Yet another example of his lack of political chops.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for him. What a shit job he has.

Abhannmor · 11/09/2025 13:44

Yes I thought that @Pollyanna87 . Very strange language, like he was smitten or at least starstruck?

I'm generally a fan of Starmer's but if it turns out he knew that Mandy was defending a convicted paedo and appointed him anyway because he'd get on well with he sleezy mate Trump then I'm jumping ship. I am so angry.

Of course he knew. He doesn't appear to have any moral convictions at all. I would never have guessed he would be this appalling.

moto748e · 11/09/2025 23:24

I just don't trust him. Whatever you think about Jeremy Corbyn, I think he stabbed him the back (and was mostly praised by the 'liberal' press for doing so), and since then, has limped his way from apparently having some problem about who has cervixes and who doesn't, to a more realistic position. In other words, he'll say any old shit, whatever works.

Jamesblonde2 · 11/09/2025 23:38

He’s bloody useless and a complete sausage.

TempestTost · 12/09/2025 03:29

CurlewKate · 11/09/2025 11:04

Good. I’m glad he’s gone. I am however, bothered by the suggestion in some posts that gay men are less likely to be concerned about sexual exploitation than straight men.

Who said that?

Do you think that there isn't sexual exploitation in the gay community?

There is some reason to think that Mandelson was involved in the kind of scene where that kind of thing wouldn't be at all uncommon.

I do not understand why Starmer appointed Mandelson to be UK Ambassador to the US in the first place. I’m not a UK citizen, don’t live there and amn’t fully au fait with UK politics but even I thought it was a very very odd decision considering Mandleson’s previous history in public life.
In retrospect it was completely batsh*t.

I am in the UK and I fully agree. There seems to be some polite fiction going on here that the Mandelson/Epstein connection only bcame public knowledge the day before yesterday 🙄, whereas it's been well-known for years, certainly pre-dating his appointment as Ambassador.

Abhannmor · 02/02/2026 15:39

He had plenty of dodgy dealings quite apart from the Epstein connection. Certainly enough to disbar him from the ambassador job. But I guess Starmer thought his connections would be helpful in managing the Mad King?

Giving inside information to a foreign party though - that takes the biscuit. It is treason pure and simple. Is he alone though? And Epstein is just one corrupt oligarch....

Grammarnut · 02/02/2026 16:45

PronounssheRa · 11/09/2025 08:10

What i don't understand is why Mandelson was appointed in the first place.

Did the vetting process not throw this up? Or did those who appointed him turn a blind eye?

Also his links with Epstein at a very basic level of security considerations would have made him vulnerable to blackmail.

Starmer should have acted days ago, instead he gave him his backing.

Starmer is a technocrat, they don't have morals.

TeenagersAngst · 03/02/2026 15:14

Just saw in the news that Mandelson is to 'retire' from the Lords but retain his peerage.

He's a sleazy fucker who should lose his peerage.

He absolutely should lose his peerage.
If I were a UK citizen I would be outraged .

What did he get it for anyway ?

LizzieSiddal · 03/02/2026 15:57

I hope this whole episode lead la to a new law making it easier to sack anyone in the Lords and take aways titles etc.

Hopefully he’ll be in prison soon for breaking Cabinet Office rules. They won’t be calling him My Lord in there.

moto748e · 03/02/2026 19:13

I'm watching C4 News now, and learn that the Govt is rushing two (2) pieces of legislation through the House, one a 'bespoke' Bill designed to deal with Mandelson specifically, to ensure he becomes a plain 'Mr', and another Bill to achieve a similar objective more generally, with future cases in mind.

It's amazing how the Govt can spring into action and rush legislation through in next to no time if it really wants, isn't it? 😝

MarieDeGournay · 03/02/2026 22:36

Mandelson was Sec. of State for Northern Ireland 1999-2001, and credit where credit is due, he brought together Unionists and Nationalists, Loyalists and Republicans on one subject - they all disliked him!

UtopiaPlanitia · 03/02/2026 23:23

How on earth he keeps being asked back into government jobs is beyond me - PMs probably know even more about the things he gets up to than we do, what makes them think he’s of the right moral character to be involved in government business?

moto748e · 03/02/2026 23:49

Maybe he knows where a few skeletons are buried.
