Mandelson believed Epstein over victims and should go

This is a feminist issue. Mandelson has admitted that he chose to believe Epstein, who had at that point been convicted of sex trafficking children, over Epstein’s victims. Surely this choice makes him an unacceptable person to represent the UK? Why on Earth does Starmer think it’s ok to keep Mandelson in his position? I stand with the victims and it is not good enough for Mandelson to sheepishly apologise with the benefit of hindsight.

Yes I agree and have been thinking this all night. Another example of how those women and girls were seen as having no value at all.

Motnight · 11/09/2025 08:03

Mandelson didn't and doesn't give a shit about Epstein's victims. Yet another man showing us what he thinks of women.

Lottapianos · 11/09/2025 08:04

Yet another man who was pretty relaxed about crimes committed against women and children

PronounssheRa · 11/09/2025 08:10

What i don't understand is why Mandelson was appointed in the first place.

Did the vetting process not throw this up? Or did those who appointed him turn a blind eye?

Also his links with Epstein at a very basic level of security considerations would have made him vulnerable to blackmail.

Starmer should have acted days ago, instead he gave him his backing.

StarlightRobot · 11/09/2025 08:15

He also hasn’t explained what he meant by ‘yum yum’ in his message. He wrote, ‘"taking you by surprise… in one of his glorious homes he likes to share with his friends (yum yum)”.

It sounds like some kind of weird sexual innuendo

So many men still think a middle aged man having sex with very young women is great and only wish they could do the same. It’s deeply disturbing.

Presumably epstein associates hide behind “well I didn’t know they were actually underage”.

From a huge number of sources we are aware that nobody being around epstein could fail to notice his constant consumption of teenage girls and his obsession with sex.

Anyone who was a friend of his should not be in public office.

He will have excellent relationship with Trump, may know a thing or two about the president. This gives him and the UK leverage in dealing with the current US government. Keir Starmer knew exactly what he was doing !

Glad to see this thread. Have heard surprisingly little comment otherwise.

He has to go. Political resignations/ sackings tend to happen on a Friday, as the newspapers only have a day to publicise them, and then there's a fresh start/other things to talk about by Monday. Only question is, IME, whether it will be tomorrow or whether they will hang in for another week to get more distance from Rayner's resignation. . .

MinnieCauldwell · 11/09/2025 08:33

PM is only sorry he has got caught out. If he was truly sorry about the friendship he would have owned up sooner. He must have just hoped the evidence would never come to light.

Not buying the excuse of being a gay man either.

He kept referring to the victims as 'those women'.

Always found him to be a bit reptilian.

I very much doubt that Peter Mandelson is wishing for that…

defrazzled · 11/09/2025 08:35

Mandelson knew exactly what he was doing as did all the other men who visited that island. They all knew. The BBC knew what Savile was up to. The Police and social workers knew about the rape gangs prey on looked after and vulnerable girls. They know and do nothing because mens feelings and perversions are more important than womens lives. Everyone knew. Blair knew so made sure Mandelson was in the firing line for it not him, the coward Stamer knows if he fires Mandelson it will raise heat on Trump so Stamer will not sack him. And so the world turns, perverted men escape justice and rape at will, women and children suffer, those in power join in or look the other way.

Cardamomandlemons · 11/09/2025 08:36

He is ambassador to the US. Honestly he fits right in.

HermioneWeasley · 11/09/2025 08:39

He supported Epstein after his conviction, he has to go. And Starmer has zero judgement on people, a week after he backed Rayner and then she had to resign, he’s now backing Mandleson!

DryAndBalmy · 11/09/2025 08:41

Completely agree

Abhannmor · 11/09/2025 08:50

Totally . How on earth was he rehabbed after being fired by Blair and Brown? Of course he was very active in the smear campaign and general sabotage of Corbyn , so perhaps Starmer owes him. A lot of the media tarts who worked with him in that disgraceful episode are now feigning shock and outrage. How nauseating.

John Prescott inspecting a crab at some reception : He's nice isn't he? Shall we call him Peter?

TheCatsTongue · 11/09/2025 08:55

Interesting that a lot more Labour MPs are outraged over this as opposed to the rape gangs happening in their own country and constituency.

StarlightRobot · 11/09/2025 09:01

@TheCatsTongue

Which Labour MPs are outraged? My impression is that there has been a lack of outrage. I would love to hear otherwise

He knew exactly what Epstein was. They all did, they just don’t care.

This was a general statement. I’m well aware PM is gay.
That doesn’t mean he was any the more enlightened regarding older men using young women and girls.

GingerBeverage · 11/09/2025 09:05

His wiki clearly lists several other scandals.

He's 'dirty' and was never fit for his role.

MargoLivebetter · 11/09/2025 09:07

Has Mandelson ever spoken up to apologise for his association before, or is this just him speaking up now because he has been caught out? I never liked him during the Blair days (nothing to do with him being gay). I always thought that there was such a streak of ruthless power hunting in him, that he was dangerous.

The Epstein saga disgusts me on so many levels. So many people corrupted by one man in so many different ways.

RoyalCorgi · 11/09/2025 09:07

I agree. I'm absolutely disgusted at this. What an appalling man.

LizzieSiddal · 11/09/2025 09:07

Agree with you. It is deeply wrong of him to be brought back into any public role. You wonder who did the “due process” for him to be allowed back, they obviously felt being “best pals” with a sex trafficker and rapist didn’t matter.

Mandleson also didn’t declare most of the meetings he’d had with Epstein, when he was in government last time, so that’s a sackable offence in itself.

He should be sacked today.

Before all this came out he said he’d only met Epstein “4 or 5 times”. Liar liar liar.

Right?
His letters are quite bizarre at times. Like a love sick teenager. And he blithely says there is worse to come. But Starmer. Oh not Starmer stands by him. Who will stand by women and girls?
