In the aftermath of the Glinner arrest in the discourse on X Councillor Ian Bristow of Berkhamsted council a Lib Dem councillor sent Natalie Bird [she previously who won case for freedom of speech inside Lib Dems] an abusive image with a gun telling them to be silent. An image posted many times before to many women. Only this time

And all it took was JKR with her millions of followers tweeting about it to make it happen. Glad he is suspended, confused about why it is so hard to get traction on the millions occurrences.

Sorry I should have put Lib Dem councillor in the title of my thread so it was easier to see, I'll ask MNHQ to change it.

Arran2024 · 05/09/2025 09:02

He kept it up for several days even while people were commenting on it. Did he think he could get away with this? It's a bizarre thing to have done.

He just doesn't see anything wrong with what he did, he feels completely right in waving his violent misogyny around for all to see.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 05/09/2025 12:37

Isn't it just typical too that the picture of the girl with the gun is in an anime style, we know that this is yet another fetish of these creepy men

BundleBoogie · 05/09/2025 12:45

I’m guessing the police squad are just taking a little while to put on their body armour and haul round to his house to arrest him in front of the neighbours?

ginasevern · 05/09/2025 12:47

So when is he going to be arrested, preferably by a small army of armed police?

So many men DO.
This is one of my major peeves - men (and boys) who think sexism and misogyny is "normal" and "acceptable", and any woman (or girl) who complains is merely attacking what's "normal" in our society.

SquirrelSoShiny · 05/09/2025 14:15

Dripping with misogyny. I like it when they show it so openly. I like it even more when they finally have to face consequences after years of overindulgence.

Me too it's galling!

You're absolutely right, there are so so many of them for whom it's absolutely normal to talk or behave like that, and if we say anything we are the ones with the problem apparently 🤔

I don't know if it's a case of that as I've aged, my eyes have been opened to the reality, or if it's just a lot worse somehow than it used to be... I think it's actually a bit of both if I think about it, which is depressing.

It makes me very grateful to have MN feminist opinions to read and discuss with, a lot of the women in my life think I'm a bit of a RadFem, and I'm really not that radical I don't think ha ha! I think it's all just become so normalised for them too. Also very depressing!

I'm happy to be thought an extremefem rather than a rad.
Afaic men get away with everything then claim I'm being awkward.
Personal beef is driving. I drive lorries off-road and have won awards but men ASSUME I'm a novice who needs guidance.
Like "you must be careful Sian", "you mustn't rev the engine, luv", "you must pump the clutch, dear", "hit reverse gear slower"......
OMG.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 06/09/2025 01:39

I think I've had a similar experience to a lot of women. It's been snowballing all my life, and really started to solidify in my 30s. When I found FWR it really helped clarify and focus a lot of the (ha!) nebulous ideas that had been floating around my head for a very long time.

They say that climbing the mountain never ends, there's always another peak. I think that could apply to feminism as a whole as much as gender ideology for me. Eventually my snowball grew into the foothills of Everest. There are a lot of men who are really, really angry at women.

There's been some more discussion on Ian Bristow on the other thread, apparently he's set up as an Independent. There will be a lot of men who are angry at women that'll vote for him.

NPET · 06/09/2025 18:13

"There are a lot of men who are really really angry at women".
SO true.
Yet they've only their own inadequacies to blame. In the case I was talking about above anyway.
I and another woman have consistently beaten all but one of the men we drive off-road lorries with. Yet instead of looking at their own inefficiencies, they have decided to attack us.
All the "drive slower!", "turn the lights on!", "use the clutch!", "change gear more efficiently!" (whatever that means!), "don't reverse like that!, etc etc etc, all comes AFTER we've sunk their a--es and left them standing.
They are not happy because we're outwitting them at a traditionally male pastime.

This is what absolutely got me about this case too.
the tweet itself was obvo awful, but I thought maybe drink fuelled and he would be full of remorse and delete and apologise when he woke up.
but the next few days was worse. It just showed how utterly untouchable and deluded TRA have become. He carried on!! Doubled down. Insulted others.
he clearly thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with inciting violence to shoot a terf (or woman and decent men as they’re otherwise known).
a clear example of how dangerous this ideology was close to becoming - utterly untouchable

I think it's all to do with social hierarchies in the animal sense - the things that are hardwired into us.

Subconsciously these men expect to have higher status than middle aged and old women so they expect respect and deference from us.

So when we publicly defy them their subconscious is outraged. THIS IS NOT HOW THINGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE - THESE BITCHES NEED TO BE SHOWN THAT!

But at the conscious level they can't allow themselves to know this so they don't understand the real reason they are so angry. Instead their consciouness pastes in a new story where we are awful unreasonable people so they can indulge their need to "win" against us and put us back in our place.

I'm not saying "middle aged women mmut defer to men" is hardwired in, but the emotional gutpuch of being "disrespected" in whatever your subscious believes the social order to be is hardwired.

Attacking that ‘norm’ is precisely the point! Presumably this sexist arsehole councillor and most half-decent men understood the need to attack the norms which used to exist of homophobia and racism?
