Figured it was my turn for once!

Plus this way I beat the rush to the bar.

Now I must return to the previous thread to relocate my Tunnock's secret stash.

Serve yourselves until the bar gerbils arrive.

Grizelda or Germolene or whoever is on duty, a pint of your best gin please for a tired and despondent badger.

Unfortunately I've been left in charge of drinks I'm chaotic and scared of badgers so I've pushed the trolley towards you.

For some reason Grok has you in a band.

Grok knows me too well. Thank you for the drink - and the badger solidarity. Who wouldn’t want a bunch of accordion-playing badgers?!? 💚💚🦡🦡💚💚

Pretty sure they are all female.

MarieDeGournay · 29/08/2025 10:52

Boily! I've just seen this shocking news on the BBC website!

Famous croc wrangler found guilty in evidence tampering trial

We've known about your croc wrangling for years, and it never bothered us.

What can we do to help? set up a crowdfunder? call Naomi and Ben? bake a cake with a file in it [we'll make it lemon drizzle as a signal...]

Really? This looks like 2 females & an accordian-playing male to me. Maybe it's a female who's just washed her fur & can't do a damn' thing with it, but my garden's hosted a lot of badgers over the years, & the ones that looked like that were male. But then, ours didn't come round with drinks trollies & accordians, so who knows?

My late granny used to have a big fat black and white cat called Harry. I have to admit I didn't get on well with Harry, who was very old and very grumpy by the time I got to know him.

One evening it was getting very dark and granny went out to take in the washing. Harry was sitting there by the line, as he sometimes did, and she talked to him as she was getting the washing.

When she got back in the house, Harry was plonked in his normal armchair, and only then did she realise she'd been having a whole conversation with a badger. No doubt the badger was very confused.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/08/2025 12:26

Just waiting for some peanuts I expect @SionnachRuadh !

My previous post included a badger image, but it's not loading. What's up with MN images these days?

I love you all.

I have found the TRA, AMA thread but haven’t read it yet. But I don’t think that was the thread. What was the other one about?

I see what you mean - although I can see seven badgers in total in that picture. There is one who might well be male or, as you say, having a bad fur day. But the other six definitely look like sows.

Well jealous of your garden visitors.

FourthInstar · 29/08/2025 12:41

I'm in an urban area, but there's a badger sett in a nearby park and I have seen a badger lolloping down the pavement at about 6.30am in full daylight. In spite of this it took a while to work out that it's a badger who repeatedly destroys our front garden. Still don't know why we're targetted and haven't really found a satisfactory solution. Chilli powder has a deterrent effect but it's very local, and temporary, so we get through kgs of the stuff.

I'm putting off the end-of-summer tidy-up because that's usually the cue for a bout of destruction. It's soul-destroying to keep losing plants that have been painstakingly grown from seed and take years to replace, always assuming seed can be repurchased.

SionnachRuadh · 29/08/2025 12:53

My area is very urban, but there seems to be a strict shift system - the street has cats in the daytime and foxes after sunset.

Back home it was a bit different. One of our late cats was very antisocial and didn't get along with other cats, but there used to be a fox cub who visited the garden and they would play together. They were friends, just like something in Beatrix Potter.

I still remember the time that same cat first encountered a hedgehog. He was staring at it in mystification, wondering what on earth this strange animal was.

I’m going to take the dog to a local woods and sit and calm down

I swear once I’ve seen it I can’t help but be angry.

Are you ok?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/08/2025 12:59

Alexandra - I screenshot part of the badger band picture & posted it, but it's been under review for nearly an hour, so is probably lost to us now. It was of the 3 on the left. Our garden visitors were fabulous & life-enhancing. We even had cubs! Our highest total in one night was 6 cubs + 2 mums (regulars), 1 dad (an occasional visitor & thrilling for the cubs, who would sometimes leap on his back & ride him while he stoically ignored them) & an unknown new one.

Star - I don't know how to deter badgers, because I never wanted to. Having rock-solid clay soil means they don't get far when they try to dig, so you have my sympathy for having your garden destroyed in pursuit of worms. You could try the carrot (peanuts) instead of the stick (chilli powder).

Taztoy · 29/08/2025 13:00

I’m fine. Just angry. I might blog here in the place that can’t be found about my experience. But I’m wary coz it’s still sub judice. I’m just so so angry. I’m fifty fucking five and I’ve never felt so destroyed and angry at the same time in my life.

Oh why did it do that sorry all

ifIwerenotanandroid · 29/08/2025 13:02

Hey, Taz, if you need to let it out & keep it safe maybe just write it down IRL? Have a journal & keep it somewhere secure.

Hugs for whatever's going on.

afaik TRA AMA (or don't cos the OP won't bother reading) was the that thread for people like me who started reading it first, but for other people the that thread was JKR poisoning the well.

How to not read the room, wait until a day when a trans shooter has murdered back-to-school children in a church to start attention-seeking 'fawn over me I'm a genderist' threads on a feminist discussion board.

Yes please, set up a crowd funder and send Naomi stat!

I look forward to the lemon drizzle cake (not words I ever thought I'd say)

My db had badgers digging up his lawn. He was advised to put out some peanuts; they ate them and then bumbled off.

Basically they’ve figured out a protection racket.
