Figured it was my turn for once!

Plus this way I beat the rush to the bar.

Now I must return to the previous thread to relocate my Tunnock's secret stash.

Serve yourselves until the bar gerbils arrive.

I have heard about substances that can cause hallucinations, but I've never felt the need to try them. This probably results from a childhood experience of watching the infamous movie Dougal and the Blue Cat.

BeLemonNow · 27/08/2025 19:28

I refuse to believe people aren't who they initially say they are on the internet! Running away!!

Smudging with sage, scattering holy water on the door and window sills, and hanging mirrors inside every entryway should see off any unwelcome poltergeists, possessions or emanations. I still have a nice big bottle of holy well water blessed by the bishop last year if no-one else has any to spare.

Make sure Giant Wombat is safely indoors before we start and remind her she is one of us and always at home at the Bluestocking.

SionnachRuadh · 27/08/2025 19:35

Yes. We need to protect against possessions. I don't want to wake up and discover that I'm really Monsieur Leclerc.

Giant wombat is getting a start on the GCSE revision.

The Bluestocking school is obviously on Scottish term times.

Magpiecomplex · 27/08/2025 19:57

I really do have the soul of a magpie though - have you ever seen such gloriously shiny shoes?!

The Bluestocking Pub - Withered Old Haggis edition.
DeanElderberry · 27/08/2025 20:01

V shiny, but be careful people don't see the reflection of your underwear in them.

And on another subject, elsethread we had triumphant vindication of my theory that it's lucky to be pooed on by a magpie, so consider yourself on call in case of emergency.

Magpiecomplex · 27/08/2025 20:06

Oh, Dean, you had to go and take the shine off, didn't you... I hadn't even thought about reflected underwear, I was just happy with how shiny they are!

I rarely wear trainers with skirts, as it happens, so I think it'll be fine.

As far as being pooed on by a magpie, I think I might let one of the other magpies do that. 😂

DeanElderberry · 27/08/2025 20:21

slacker

I am an actor, not just identifying as one.
Though since acting involves identifying as people you’re not, maybe I’m really a person I’m not, identifying as an actor?

I’ve got some spare holy water in the bathroom cabinet, @DeanElderberry , if you need any more. Walsingham extra-strength.

FourthInstar · 27/08/2025 20:43

Good grief! Has someone (some beetle?) installed an infinite improbability drive in the Bluestocking's cellar? Something seems to be reacting oddly with the Bluestocking's standard unreality field.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/08/2025 20:48

Hello anactor.

SionnachRuadh · 27/08/2025 20:51

{memory banks rebooting}

We were the generation of children who felt no particular need to experiment with psychedelic drugs, because at an early age we had been exposed to weird ass fillums like Flash Gordon and Time Bandits and the daddy of them all, Dougal and the Blue Cat.

DATBC is a feature length movie spinoff of The Magic Roundabout, with added strangeness (particularly when Dougal goes to the Moon) and with Eric Thompson's narration being joined by Fenella Fielding as "The Blue Voice".

Life hack: if you have unruly DC to wrangle, and your Frozen DVD isn't doing the job, make them watch Dougal and the Blue Cat. It will have roughly the same effect on their impressionable minds as the audio tapes that drove Michael Caine mad in The Ipcress File.

It's been a very strange day.

But I'm thankfully back in the right reality, The monarchy has been overthrown, we're still in Europe and President Owen Jones is on his third term at Downing Street.

FourthInstar · 27/08/2025 21:03

Anyway, I'm going to help myself to a drink and relax in a comfortable chair until some semblance of normal service resumes.

@Boiledbeetle Keep twiddling the dials. I DO NOT want to share my universe with Owen Jones.

My potentially stressful, expensive day has mainly been frustrating. On the plus side I did not have to drop what I was doing and spend 40 mins driving around aimlessly to charge a car battery; on the minus side this is because car is now at the garage, which is ominous on the expense front.

Because the tow truck guys didn't bother calling me to let me know they'd had to take my car to the garage I had to reorganise my day, which meant that by the time I was free to go out for a run a thunderstorm had arrived. It's also slightly irksome that a month's worth of non-perishable shopping is sitting inaccessible in the car boot on the other side of the city.

Now I do like me a bit of Shakespeare. One of my favourite fillums ever is Theatre of Blood, where Vincent Price plays a hammy actor who gets revenge on his critics by giving them all deaths out of Shakespeare.

Vincent said that this was one of his favourite movies, because he'd always wanted to do Shakespeare. You can tell he's having altogether too much fun throughout.

Boiledbeetle · 27/08/2025 21:12

@FourthInstar No Owen Jones reality
