Figured it was my turn for once!

Plus this way I beat the rush to the bar.

Now I must return to the previous thread to relocate my Tunnock's secret stash.

Serve yourselves until the bar gerbils arrive.

DH is ill today and I am back to being an active carer, not just a nominal one.
Am I allowed to say it is boring?

Yes it is, and yes you are.

You certainly are.
Sorry for everyone who had problems of their own or their loved ones to deal with.Flowers

We’ve been out for lunch and a bit of a walk with a group who used to be a regular discussion group but have thrashed out many topics on zoom during covid, and now can’t find anywhere suitable for discussion meetings so it’s just the occasional social meeting nowadays. Very pleasant but the walk was a rather limited by DHs back problem. He’s seen a physio, who says it’s 3 bulging discs so he’s now being diligent with his exercises. Not so much a dragon as a cobra at the moment.

Bannedontherun · 24/08/2025 16:59

Yes fuzzy it I a great place for a good old moan about real life

FuzzyPuffling · 24/08/2025 17:01

Ten years of caring rather wears one out...

BeLemonNow · 24/08/2025 17:13

I got up, felt unwell, went back to bed and woke up at 4pm! So perhaps it's been a slow Sunday all round? I need to get some seeds sown for autumn/winter harvests.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/08/2025 17:27

A slow Sunday here too. I’ve finished knitting the sleeve of a sweater for dh, and cast on the second one, and I’m binge-watching Annika, and spotting bits of the scenery of Glasgow and Greenock that they used.

FarriersGirl · 24/08/2025 17:55

I have had a slow Sunday too. Weather has perked up so I am now in the summer house with the doors open and a bulb catalogue in hand to choose some tulips for the spring🌷💐

Igneococcus · 24/08/2025 18:18

Today I made:

  • tomato chilli jam
  • two bottles of raspberry vinegar
  • started a batch of bramble vinegar
  • two jars Liz' lucious raspberries (River Cottage Preserves book)
  • went cycling and picked more brambles (too good to leave)
  • saw a massive flock of goldfinches (hundreds, not exaggerating)
  • roasted a chicken
  • froze the last of the blueberries
  • froze some Turkish peppers for use in ds' favourite beef stew during winter
  • made a bread and butter pudding with all the ends of Lidl's seeded bread
I'm knackered and in need of a shower.

I agree. I'm also jealous. Our blackberries and raspberries have all shriveled up this year. It's been too dry. Even the wild ones. Tiny acorns are already dropping. Have picked my first home grown pears though.

SionnachRuadh · 24/08/2025 19:31

At this time of year I do miss picking loganberries back home. The loganberry is a much underrated fruit when it comes to jams, crumbles and trifles, and I think it should be better known.

SionnachRuadh · 24/08/2025 19:34

I'm also having a slow Sunday. Been watching 12 Angry Men, which is a bit of a staple if you want to figure out the screenwriter's art.

As for later, I've got a nice quiche on the go, maybe a glass of Talisker and a Vincent Price fillum. Vincent is always good value.

We've had plenty of rain after a warm and dry May. The brambles are amazing this year, I have seen only one other person picking though. It looks a lot like autumn already, lots of trees turned brown after storm Floris. The elder bushes that didn't have any shelter from the wind lost their leaves completely and I doubt the berries will ripen. One apple tree close to work which was laden with fruit this year is totally brown on one side and apples dropped.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2025 20:04

I’ve been watering, deadheading and cutting back since I posted earlier. Just had some veg and bean soup.

Boiledbeetle · 24/08/2025 20:35

I've been scratching my arse and picking my nose.

😈

Anyhoo, a quokka eating a leaf...

Anyway anyone want some chocolate I've just made?

What's that NO ONE wants any??

I wonder why?!

Such a shame I'll have to eat it all myself.

Magpies are scavengers, I'll give it a go!

MyrtleLion · 24/08/2025 21:15

I have returned upstairs. We watched a couple of short films which were excellent and rubbish.

Our next door neighbour (NDN) popped round to seek reassurance. Our newish other neighbour (NON) has spent the last three weekends DIY installing a bathroom with power tools being very loud at random times. This means our NDNs haven’t been able to use their garden, and it’s the last sunny weekend of the year. Our NDN called to say she was going to ask the NONs to stop using the power tools except between 10 and 2 tomorrow, as her wife has a heart condition and it’s driving her mad. She wanted to know if she was being unreasonable, so asked for our backing.

I feel I could do an AIBU with a diagram to show the layout of the houses, so you can see how close we all are.

Anyway, it was nice to say hello to a new person, and I ate dinner with the walrus, at the table, so it’s been quite an exciting outing to the downstairs.

What are the mystery particles and fibres inside the chocolate?

That's the kind of question that's dangerous to ask

Boiledbeetle · 24/08/2025 22:20

kadayif and pistachios.

I thought it looked like shredded wheat, which is probably one of the many things which chocolate isn’t improved by being combined with.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/08/2025 22:42

I rather like Dubai chocolate - dh is not so keen on- so I just have to eat it all. The sacrifices I have to make for love.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2025 22:56

I haven’t tried it - I can’t imagine how it could be better than the larger quantity of hazelnut or almond chocolate which could be bought for the same price. Salted roast pistachios are nice but do they really have any superiority over other nuts in confectionary?
