And they say 'biological'

New M & S bra fitting policy

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 17/08/2025 18:12

What’s Mr Sparkles had to say about it?

Toseland · 17/08/2025 18:14

What does female mean when blokes are claiming they are female too?

lcakethereforeIam · 17/08/2025 19:43

What about the female bra fitters having to participate in some bloke's fetish?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 17/08/2025 20:39

Despite all the "what do they mean by female" reservations, this does suggest that the tsunami of criticism following their creepy male member of staff approaching a 14 year old in the lingerie department might have landed?

We know certain senior staff at M & S have been over excited at the idea of men being allowed into the women's lingerie changing rooms while women and girls have bras fitted? Is it possible that the negative publicity along with the amount of time their staff are having to deal with predatory men exploiting access to women's changing rooms are finally being noticed?

EmpressaurusKitty · 17/08/2025 20:43

‘Developed for our female customers’ isn’t the same thing as ‘Is exclusively for our female customers’.

I’m not convinced they haven’t still left themselves a loophole.

What’s Mr Sparkles had to say about it?

He hasn't had a meltdown yet, but a couple of days ago he said "Being a woman in the public eye, I hope I'll encourage other women and people with breasts to go more regularly to get fitted."

beachwalkx · 17/08/2025 20:49

I mean they can’t fit bras to start so..

JanesLittleGirl · 17/08/2025 22:49

The rubber will hit the tarmac when Molly turns up for his fitting. I can't honestly imagine what the outcome will be.

Hoardasurass · 17/08/2025 22:54

Has anyone got an archived link as I really don't want the sun putting cookies on my devices and I'd love to read Sophie's comment, hes still going to his appointment though so we'll get a real world test of the new policy.

I wonder if someone from M&S has looked at Sophie's twitter account and freaked out i mean hes so nutty even the Scottish greens didn't want him and they've got looney lorna and Maggie personperson

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 17/08/2025 22:56

I'd love for a man to do the bra fitting and tell him he doesn't need a bra as he just has moobs.

murasaki · 17/08/2025 23:10

He's not going to turn up, I don't think he ever was.

But if he does, I hope he's told where to go. Or if the policy hasn't quite sunk in, someone points him at the ugliest over the shoulder boulder holders they have. Even though he doesn't need it.

MissKomodoDragonsBrunch · 17/08/2025 23:12

Well, M & S, I’m sure we will find out after the booked session whether your definition of “female” aligns with biological reality…

Somehow I think everyone will hear all about the experience the above “woman” had at their “bra fit”. 🤮

SidewaysOtter · 17/08/2025 23:23

Well, it's something. They still seem to have removed the word "women's" from the female changing rooms, implying they are gender neutral/open to all.

Hoardasurass · 17/08/2025 23:23

But the men's still say men's on them @SidewaysOtter

SidewaysOtter · 17/08/2025 23:30

Hoardasurass · 17/08/2025 23:23

But the men's still say men's on them @SidewaysOtter

Quite, so we've got changing rooms for men and...changing rooms also open to men.

<slow hand clap for M&S>

BeLemonNow · 17/08/2025 23:47

Not sure that's new, at least when I worked there it was all women in the lingerie department.

Men can buy and wear bras idc just as long as they aren't in the women's changing room.

MissKomodoDragonsBrunch · 18/08/2025 03:38

I wonder if the M & S where the “bra fit” appointment is booked have time before said booking to set up, stock and MAN a “Male Lingerie” section? I really hope so! 🤣

Itsatrap5050 · 18/08/2025 03:48

Well according to Mr Sparkles twitter the appointment is on Tuesday and there will be ‘photos aplenty’ 🤮

MagicSexEssence · 18/08/2025 04:19

Interesting. It sounds as if all bra fitters are women and (reading between the lines) that they don't encourage trans identifying men to come for a bra fitting but that they're not explicitly banned. I'd expect that some female bra fitters wouldn't want to fit a bra for a man. I hope that M&S have told staff that they are allowed to say no.

I think whoever is responsible for the policy of allowing the booking to be taken should be the one to attend and service the booking - they can do a crash course in bra fitting and have a selection in the male underwear department.

Absolutely delusional 😂

Missed the senior male staff story.

Yes, as pp alluded to on the other thread about marks and Spencer it feels like a delay&deflect - we don’t want to address the safety of children in our stores re male employees after this incident so we give you…women only bra fittings.

Good that the Sun has pushed it up the news agenda and M&S is sending a message that they don’t encourage their women staff to be used for pr stunts and performative affirmations.

Hope other newspapers pick it up and push on the mum’s policy request for male employees to not approach young women (think 25). But think they’re hoping that incident will just go away.
