Pro-trans activists clash with police at explosive women's rights protest

A 'sex-based women's rights' protest has erupted as counter-protesters supporting transgender rights faced off with police.

Protesters associated with Women’s Voices Australia had gathered on the steps of Victorian Parliament House in Melbourne on Saturday.

The group, which frequently uses the slogan 'biology isn’t bigotry', prompted a demonstration from pro-trans activists who marched through the CBD to the building.

The almost 100-strong counter-protest reached parliament at 11am before being pushed away by police officers who sparked an altercation.

Did they intend to look like a sqaudrisimo of 'Blackshirts' in official MVSN casual wear?

MarieDeGournay · 16/08/2025 21:34

Not scary, alienating and off-putting to the general public at all, are they?😏
They are good publicity for women's rights - I'm sure their appearance and violence have peaked a few undecideds.

FallinUltra · 16/08/2025 21:35

It does seem unwise to dress like that, while also referring to fascism.

eatfigs · 16/08/2025 21:41

What's with the 'death to "australia"' banner these masked men are brandishing?

SidewaysOtter · 16/08/2025 21:52

Because dressing like terrorists and promoting death to others makes them look completely reasonable, yes?

myplace · 16/08/2025 21:54

Does anyone know the idea behind it? I mean, the obvious interpretation is that they plan to do illegal activities and dress to make it harder to be identified. Surely they wouldn’t plant to behave illegally? Say it ain’t so!

Its just part of that whole "left" virtue signalling.

Instead of realising they are just spoilt schoolboys they think they are true revolunionaries battling against the state, repression and terrifying terfs, and must dress the part ie stereotypical "freedom fighters".

For years most demos in the UK always had the "Black Block" which was usually post boys pretending to be anarchists, doing something juvenile stunt just to get arrested.

Um. Because, when it comes to defining what a woman is, they think only fascists care about what's down under?

That's my best shot. Not a bastard clue otherwise

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/08/2025 22:06

Not convinced on the Mail saying the police 'sparked' an altercation. I'd say the twats in black bringing flares were the ones 'sparking' something, myself.

This cartoon had been used many times, with whichever was the buzzword of oppression at the time. Changed to feminist more recently.

"Arm the Dolls" says one banner

How kind

Do continue demonstrating why men don't belong in women's spaces, dudes.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 16/08/2025 22:28

Operation Let Them Speak in action again. Women definitely want men dressed like terrorists in our SSS.

Hoardasurass · 16/08/2025 23:13

Well from that footage its quite clear why they were "interfering" with journalists. I suspect that their about to get a rather brutal introduction to the Streisand effect (well if the Australian censors allow the media to do its job)

SionnachRuadh · 16/08/2025 23:22

Wearing black and intimidating citizens is a funny way of showing you're opposed to fascism, but fashionable these days. I wonder if they've got a special salute.

My best guess about the "death to Australia" thing is that, because they're on the right side of history, they'll recite a land acknowledgment before they punch you.

See also this thread - I still can’t believe the difference in reporting of this rally compared with previous TRA performances….

Given the location of Victoria, where on previous demos actual Nazis, members of the far-right National Socialist Movement (pictured), not only attended unopposed, but actively participated, being welcomed to speak on the mic, were Nazi saluting, and taking selfies with the organisers, this appears to be a direct anti-fascist response saying Nazi's aren't welcome.

I can't believe that regardless of your views on gender/womens rights - that saying Nazis are bad should ever be a controversial statement.

There's a number of posts on facebook which say (not sure if it is true) that women wanting to attend the rally had to show an agreed symbol so that the police would let them through.

Not saying I believe it, but if true really strange. How would anyone wanting to attend know this?

They weren't welcomed by the women will speak organisers nor were they speaking on the mic of WWS.

Erm...

Self-described ‘nationalist’ speaks at anti-trans rights rally on Victoria parliament steps | Victoria | The Guardian

"The leader of a self-described “nationalist” organisation, who was formerly a member of the far-right white nationalist group the Lads Society, addressed an anti-transgender rights rally on the steps of the Victorian parliament at the weekend.

Matthew Trihey, who also goes by Matthew Raine, has since apologised for drawing attention for his appearance, after he lent his public address system to Saturday’s #WomenWillSpeak event and made opening and closing speeches."

The thing is, "Nazis bad" should be as uncontroversial as it gets. Even if they aren't literal Nazis as you say (any literal Nazis still around today would be 100 years old) but tiny groups larping as Nazis.

It's just that I've seen it used in bad faith many times.

The protests in England at the migrant hotels probably have some far right personalities hanging around in the parasitic way they do, but they're overwhelmingly local people with genuine concern about sexual assaults on local women and girls.

And then a bunch of blue fringes from outside the area turn up yelling "Nazi scum off our streets", and this will be "Stand Up To Racism", a wholly owned subsidiary of the Socialist Workers Party, in other words literal rape enablers who defended the abuse of young women in their own organisation. Samira Ali; Weyman Bennett; Lewis Nielsen. These scumbags manage to launder their own reputation, and get union money, by saying "Nazis bad".

If it matters, their Australian franchise trades as "Solidarity".

FWR has a healthy contingent of leftists who think that being a leftist means you're a good person, and aren't shy about using guilt by association against those not in their tribe. This is often infuriating for those of us who have seen the ugly side of your tribe up close.

Edited to add that this is in response to SC59 bringing up the same old misinformation about the March 2024 Let Women Speak rally in Victoria as I forgot to quote post
Ah yes. This was the event where Moira Deeming won her defamation case at being called a Nazi because these men turned up uninvited at a women's rights event.
Since this was widely reported on and this happened over a year ago, I can only assume you already know this.
Any reason you are repeating claims that have already been found to be false by the courts?

Hmmm yes that thought crossed my mind too. And why do they cover their faces?

They were not invited did not speak at the mic and the police let them through even though they weren't part of the let women speak rally and a couple of successful slander cases have been brought against people who spread that bs may I kindly suggest that you check your sources again
