I came across this thread on Twitter https://x.com/WRNEastSussex/status/1956185295839486396 which led me to this article in Hastings Independent Press. I read it online but understand that HIP also publishes paper copies which are distributed locally.
https://www.hastingsindependentpress.co.uk/articles/opinion/all-about-eve/

It's a very clear article by East Sussex Women's Rights Network, welcoming the Supreme Court judgement and talking about the harms caused by gender ideology and how women are punished for speaking out.

I'm surprised that it got published! 20 comments underneath the article and they're all positive.
Just hope that the paper doesn't cave if there's a TRA backlash.

NotAtMyAge · 15/08/2025 17:37

A really excellent article, demonstrating just how to put the facts forward in a clear, readable and convincing way. Exemplary journalism from East Sussex Women's Rights Network.

Snowypeaks · 15/08/2025 17:41

Excellent article, explains what is going on for the normies and listing clearly all the harms.
Well done to Hastings Independent Press for publishing.

MurkyWeather · 15/08/2025 17:59

Crikey, and that near to Brighton too!

Igmum · 15/08/2025 21:30

Apparently they had to do a lot of persuading before the paper would publish it so please do leave positive comments - we are the majority 😀

Hurryupwearedreaming · 15/08/2025 21:41

Well done Hastings Independent Press. They are online as well as in traditional print.

deadpan · 15/08/2025 21:55

Thanks very much for posting that. I just searched up their address and sent an email to say thanks for publishing it.

Positive comments underneath the article and on Twitter but lots of negative comments when it was shared in a local Facebook group. www.facebook.com/share/p/17AzbWpG4o/

Thanks for the link, I've left a comment, I also followed the link to the Facebook group, I only saw the first 3 comments (because I'm not on Facebook) and they were the same predictable, deary comments that I now expect from the mirror universe. Sad times😂

Don't worry a bunch of misinformation on some site no one has heard of is really not of interest to trans rights campaigners.

We've got more important things to consider, like the fact that the UK is now the shame of Western Europe when it comes trans rights and behind such progressive utopias such as Romania and Turkey.

But props to Sue Williams, whoever she is, for standing up to the bullies.

Morning Bee, it's to early to deal with your warped world view, come back when I've had my coffee. 🙄

Liverstreaming · 16/08/2025 07:49

Turkey. Where Pride has been repeatedly banned, there are no laws against discrimination, and same sex marriages are not recognised. I have never understood why the trans movement holds out majority Muslim countries as bastions of inclusion. Perhaps it’s because they centre all men (even ones in frocks)?

Anyway, good for the East Sussex WRN, and Hastings news.

Of no interest to trans supremacist zealots, you say? Yet here you are, having read the article and describing an entirely factual article as "misinformation." I'm surprised that trans attempted rights appropriators wouldn't be interested; surely it's best to know one's enemy?

Is there anything in the article which stands out as untrue, in your mind? Can you, with supporting facts, point out how and why?

Do you think the fact that women's and girls rights to single sex spaces, services and sports are not just enshrined in law, but have also the buttress of the Supreme Court judgment that they are so protected, is untrue, for example?

We are a volunteer run 'left leaning' community paper that tries to cater for the whole community as much as is possible. We have a circulation of about 7,000 printed copies so a good reach in the community.

Trans people in the UK have exactly the same civil rights in the UK as any other citizen and are protected from discrimination by the Equality Act 2010 under the characteristic of gender reassignment. The only thing that has changed is that the erosion of sex-based rights for both women and men has been halted and put into reverse by the Supreme Court judgment and that is a reason for celebration, not shame.

Done. Well done for taking this step, particularly if you are 'left leaning'. You are platforming a view that the majority of the public holds.

Donated, and I mentioned I had seen a link to you on MN, just so you know it's usSmile
Great to see independent journalism surviving.
Which means that I'm delighted you published this article, which I agree with 100%, and I accept that you are going to publish other articles that I won't agree with 100% - and d'you know what? that won't make me feel 'unsafe',🙄 it makes me feel grateful for free speech and critical analysis.

I know a bit about Hastings and you lot at HIP have got some serious cojones for sticking to your principles and putting out that article. Hopefully you will gain more subscribers than you lose.

No trans rights are affected except the ones Stonewall lied about transwomen having - and those never existed. The law has been clarified and it needed doing because women were being discriminated against in their own spaces. Read the SC judgement if you are not clear on this matter.
And the UK is now in the forefront of guaranteeing women's rights, as a sex class, which is excellent. The rest of Europe needs to follow suit instead of supporting men's rights to infilitrate women's rights.

@KindTiger
I've also donated as a thank you for publishing this article. I can see that you've had some real stick over on FB for publishing the opinion piece by East Sussex WRN. I hope that doesn't translate into a loss of subscribers or advertisers.

Obviously, I totally agree with the article but - unlike the TRAs - I'd also be happy for you to publish an article with the opposite stance. It would be utter nonsense but freedom of speech and all that.

KindTiger · 17/08/2025 08:41

@cariadlet Thanks for the donation (and to all the others who have donated). The support was unexpected and is much appreciated. Keeping a volunteer printed newspaper going can be a struggle but this is our 11th year and we hope for many more.

Regarding the right to reply, we would certainly want to do that. But on the other hand we would want to avoid publishing misinformation. Unfortunately, much of the reaction from those opposed to the Supreme Court ruling seems to have been in that form. This simply causes uncertainty and division as well as fear amongst the most vulnerable in the trans community.

Ideas welcome.

(I should point out that Hastings Independent operates as a collective, only meeting face to face on a weekly basis. My involvement on mumsnet has been on my own initiative rather than a collective response.)

Absentmindedsmile · 17/08/2025 09:10

‘despite the very real possibility of a backlash from anti-women activists.’

Love the description - anti-women activists. Much more accurate. AWAs
