I came across this thread on Twitter https://x.com/WRNEastSussex/status/1956185295839486396 which led me to this article in Hastings Independent Press. I read it online but understand that HIP also publishes paper copies which are distributed locally.
https://www.hastingsindependentpress.co.uk/articles/opinion/all-about-eve/

It's a very clear article by East Sussex Women's Rights Network, welcoming the Supreme Court judgement and talking about the harms caused by gender ideology and how women are punished for speaking out.

I'm surprised that it got published! 20 comments underneath the article and they're all positive.
Just hope that the paper doesn't cave if there's a TRA backlash.

the UK is now the shame of Western Europe when it comes trans rights— in other words, is ahead of the rest of Europe in restoring women’s rights and child safeguarding, which have been trampled on during the past decade —

and.behind such progressive utopias such as Romania and Turkey. Countries where gay rights are weak or nonexistent have welcomed the ability to ‘trans away the gay’.

Yes, drugs and surgery can help some people believe they look like the opposite sex, at great cost to their health. Not something to aim for.

Don't worry a bunch of misinformation on some site no one has heard of is really not of interest to trans rights campaigners.

We've got more important things to consider, like the fact that the UK is now the shame of Western Europe when it comes trans rights and behind such progressive utopias such as Romania and Turkey.

To think ?8 years ago naive me thought that the straights wouldn't do another moral panic only a decade or so after the last queer moral panic

Great! Someone is highlighting how the rest of Europe is behind the UK! Don’t worry BS, they’ll catch up with Terf island in time!

Do you actually care at all about girls and women?

You are man in a relationship with a women, you are a 'straight'.

Exactly. Like the female dream that is Pakistan.

On Twitter and Mumsnet there has been plenty of love for the article and for HIP for publishing it but the local FB group seems to be getting increasingly deranged. Lots of comments about how hateful the article is without being able to cite any examples of hate.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17AzbWpG4o/

It's depressing to see how the vitriol is now being directed not just at the writers of the article and the women supporting it on the thread but at HIP for publishing it.
It's been explained that it's not a news piece or an editorial; it's a published opinion piece. It's been suggested that the TRAs submit their own opinion piece. But that's not good enough. As far as they're concerned it's a hate piece and HIP is a hate rag for publishing it.

I shouldn't be surprised. Whenever women gather at LWS, the antifa wannabees turn up to drown out our voices and try to silence us. Of course they don't think a voices should be heard via newspaper articles either.

I've been looking at the profiles of some of those commenting and found this nasty thread calling for a boycott of HIP by advertisers and subscribers.

I sometimes find the blind emotion of this movement genuinely frightening. Bee, above, claiming misinformation about a measured article (without citing specific examples), in the very same few lines as exaggeratedly emotive phrases like "the shame of Europe". That thread linked above, similarly characterised by hyperbole, and some downright offensive language. Shame, bigot, hate, baggage etc. The evidence is right there in the words being chosen: on the one side, we have calm, reasoned reflection, and the other, there's caricature and abuse. To us, it comes across as a little unhinged, certainly puerile, and often suggestive of bigotry. But they genuinely see this approach as evidence of their own moral superiority. It really is utterly Orwellian - the perfect contemporary manifestation of the Two Minutes' Hate and Love is Hate. Orwell's insight and genius just blow me away.

From the comments I read Hastings seems to be a hot bed of unhinged individual's 🤯

The worse thing is not one comment could be called original, or insightful or meaningful, they're just all versions on the same programmed response.

Exactly. Probably explains why one of the comments suggested that the WRN article had been written by ChatGPT. 🙄 They aren't capable of writing an original comment or article themselves

Great article. I've commented twice for the algorithm and made a donation. It's smaller than I would have liked but I'm on a fixed income and it all adds up

It's a really brilliant article. I used to be a journalist and I appreciate the good writing as well as the expert structuring of the piece.

So far, it has a grand total of 5 signatures.

It's got a lot more now.

However - they will all be the DFLs, OG Hastings will have very little truck with any of this, they are much less reformed than say Brighton along the road. Just look at the voting intentions.

Indeed. The details shown on this page, not just of voting intentions but of demography, are very informative. Like a lot of coastal towns Hasting is rather older, poorer and less highly-educated than the SE average.

Yes, Hastings is interesting. Lots of deprivation.

But also lots of DFLs (Down from London) and arty types so there's a very creative side. I think those are the ones who have been vocal in condemning the WRN article and HIP for publishing it. They live in a little bubble and believe most people think the same way that they do. I know Terfs who move in those circles in Hastings and are scared too speak out because of the inevitable backlash.

HIP has now published a counter article to the WRN All About Eve opinion piece
https://www.hastingsindependentpress.co.uk/articles/opinion/hastings-stands-with-trans-rights/

As with the All About Eve opinion piece, comments are welcome. Unlike the TRAs who raged about the first piece and support censorship, I imagine GCs will all be happy to see this published but might say what nonsense it is.

Hastings Green Party have also published a statement on their website
hastings.greenparty.org.uk/2025/08/18/all-about-eve-response/

HASTINGS STANDS WITH TRANS RIGHTS

East Sussex Women’s Rights Network may call the Supreme Court ruling a victory. For trans and non-binary people in our community, it is a brutal attack and we will not be silent, says Jenny Sutton.…

Very important that this receives a lot of comments pointing out the heinous un truths in the article...

Excellent article, and the comments underneath just go to prove how weak the arguments are for TIM to be allowed access to women only spaces.

I was really gobsmacked at the revelation that a Women’s Group weren’t allowed a stall at a celebration of International Womens Day! Really? Is the trans movement so scared of the truth that they can’t even recognise that irony in their determination to silence womens voices. The Taliban is alive and thriving in Hastings it appears. 🙂

Absolutely true. East Sussex WRN applied to Women's Voice (who run the official International Women's Day event in Hastings) but were refused so had a street stall in the town centre instead.
They tweeted about it at the time.

The counter article is exactly what I would have expected and so far has garnered no comments at all, neither for nor against. To be honest I'm not sure I have the patience to try to unpick all the nonsense it contains. However I was mildly surprised by the Green Party response, compared to the utter lunacy we too often hear from the Greens. Though of course I disagree with their argument that TWAW, at least they do appear to recognise there is a conflict of rights, which I take as a step in the right direction.

NotAtMyAge · 19/08/2025 18:34

A full-blown TERF in Hastings. I'd quite like to sit down for a coffee with her. ☕

Edited

@NotAtMyAge Quite a lot of comments now, most of them reiterating the first article and repeating, once again for the hard of thinking, that biology is not bigotry . Good to read.

Quoting my own post, but reading the rebuttal article and the comments below it, the above remains so tellingly true. It really is quite striking.
