So... I am currently doing these on my phone.

I screenshot your image, uploaded it to Grok and got Grok 'imagine' to make a 6 second video (currently free but don't know how long that will last). Then I play the video and just keep pressing the screenshot button all the way through it, then choose which of the many screenshots will work to show enough movement.

No laptop required, just a smartphone or tablet.

Watching latest performance from the floor riveted. Please don't spear my lemons.

Cheers, m'dear. I was thinking fondly of the old laptop on which I handcrafted images in PSE & made them into animations.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/08/2025 00:48

Just tried grok & couldn't find anything about animations or inputting files. I did make this tribute to you, though @Boiledbeetle . It's not what I asked for, but it's gratifyingly weird.

How about the gerbil licking them?

That's lovely, thank you. Maud gets around, doesn't she? Such a useful gerbil.

I'll try it tomorrow (although I have new yarn colours arriving in the morning so...).

I’m just sitting here in the corner awed and stunned by the technical prowess of Bluestockingers. I am the tech support in this house as DH is even less techy than me, but I run into the limits of my knowledge very quickly. I think I need more gin, please, bar gerbil, with tonic and a slice of lemon, while I contemplate being ancient.

MarieDeGournay · 17/08/2025 23:32

That's a fun idea - tiny tiny knitting needles - maybe cocktail sticks?😃

I think my 2mm ones are probably similar to cocktail sticks. I did actually have to knit on pins at one point. That was tricky…

lcakethereforeIam · 18/08/2025 11:16

Marie, you could animate the real Bluestocking. The old fashioned way. 'Just' move figures slightly and take a picture. Although, unless you're going for a clever dynamic shot the camera should be in the same spot and the lighting shouldn't change. It could get complicated with tripods and lighting rigs. It'd be hard to tell a story with just five shots and relatively immobile characters. You could stack posts and use the gallery but the characters would still be quite static.

I was thinking last night you could make posable characters with pipe cleaners as a skeleton, wrapped with wool to bulk them out. Facial expressions could be animated by drawing them on paper ovals that could be swapped out between shots. There might be a problem with metal fatigue, from posing and reposing, breaking the pipe cleaner skeletons.

Did I tell you I went to a Ray Harryhausen exhibition early in the year? 😁

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/08/2025 11:31

Every time I try to post with links, it says error - but there may be multiple copies of the post later. Sorry!

Lovely ideas, Cake - and yes, I could indeed animate the real Bluestocking. I am touched that you have devoted so many of your waking hours to working out how I could do it - the warning about metal fatigue in the pipe cleaners is invaluable, and one that would have benefitted many aircraft manufacturers..

That leads me on to an analysis of the contextualised meaning here of the word 'could' - one one level, could I? yes I could. On another level? could I? yeah right I could!😂

I know my limits, and knitting tiny figures and Harryhousen-inspired animations are waaaayyyyy beyond them.

But I appreciate all the suggestionsSmile

'One gin, with tonic and a slice of lemon - certainly Modom - would Modom prefer the lemon licked or unlicked?'

@MarieDeGournay , what size figures do you need, how many & what should they look like?

MyrtleLion · 18/08/2025 12:22

I want to let Boily know that most of the heart emojis I have added to her posts should be laugh emojis.

Apart from the Grok instructions. Those are real hearts.

the obvious medium for possible figures would surely be plasticine, but whether modelling on a small enough scale for the Real Bluestocking would be feasible I’m not sure. I believe Wallace and Gromit are a chunky 8” tall.

Knowing that Bluestocking bar gerbils have been specially appointed for the flavour and delicacy of their saliva, and their ability to change it according to individual customers’ tastes, I think I’ll take a licked slice with a hint of pomegranate.

We are all totally normal sane and rational women in this pub.

This post by Britinme proves it.

And a lion has been doing beetle impressions on a different thread. I like the tshirt!

Here is the T-shirt.

It looks better on a beetle 💙

These are incredible, I'm full of admiration, really brilliant.
And this one made me think of dear Swash and BearSmile
^https://www.facebook.com/reel/1354311375244339^

As to the size of figures I need - well I am my own worst enemy in this because I started making the model according to the size of the materials I had to hand, without thinking about scale.

So it's not an exact scale - I think I worked out it was about 1:48 but to tell you the truth I've now forgotten how I worked that out so I may be misremembering!
It seemed to be about O gauge scale, but that scale is not 100% fixed, so the O figures I just bought are at the smaller end and and are much smaller than the figures I already have.
Which were cheap 'toys' rather than models, but there were three fully clad female figures in the set and they turned out to be OK for the Bluestocking, so I 'modded' and repainted them, here's one, she's about 2"/5cm high. That's the size I need to build up a good crowd for the Grand OpeningSmile

ErrolTheDragon · 18/08/2025 16:57

can you stand one of the new ones next to her?

maybe you could assemble your crowd with false perspective if you arrange them on a slight slope?
