Has the quality of the ploppers gone down lately or are my tastes in entertainment changing?

The "some parallels" plopper? I just swore (sweared) so loudly both dp and ds came to check on me. If this is indicative of the average intelligence and understanding of that generation we are fucking doomed.
Would anybody like to try my bramble federweisser? Not sure how much alcohol it has.

Bannedontherun · 16/08/2025 19:26

@Igneococcus missed it

The thread is still there, near the top of the FWR threads, called "some parallels" unless Midge meant a different plopper.

Bannedontherun · 16/08/2025 20:11

@Igneococcus yes found it just had. Good old rant lol

midgetastic · 16/08/2025 20:14

What is federweisser? DH had corrected my pronunciation but doesn’t actually know what it is in a drink context ( white feather apparently)

Federweisser is fermenting grape juice before it becomes proper wine, basically fizzy, alcoholic grape juice with live yeasts. It's great, good for gut health too, very popular in the German wine growing areas in autumn. It's very easy to drink and people new to it underestimate how much alcohol it has. I have waitressed for many Federweisser events (good fundraising for clubs) and it's quite amusing and lucrative, drunk Germans are very good tippers.
We have so many brambles this year, it's insane, so dp suggested we make a bramble version of Federweisser and it's fabulous. I just set up the third batch.

ive only really been in the summer

still wanting to source some plum liqueur thing I had in bamburg that was just fabulous and didn’t leave a hangover either. Despite salsa dancing in the street

Bamberg? I have family there. Was it a sweet liqueur or a Schnapps which is more like a grappa. Zwetschgenschnapps is very popular in that area, also Kirschwasser, same thing but with cherries.

midgetastic · 16/08/2025 20:57

Zwetschgen

Igneococcus · 16/08/2025 21:04

midgetastic · 16/08/2025 20:57

Zwetschgen

Damsons
My grandmother made the best Zwetschgenknoedel, little damson dumplings. Also very popular as a Zwetschgenkuchen, a yeast base (like a brioche type) with damsons on top, eaten with whipped cream.

Britinme · 16/08/2025 21:06

The parallels thread is a stunning example of pseudo-intellectualism.

I have peaches for dessert tonight but I can't be arsed to do anything adventurous with them - sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar and shove them under the grill if anything. Serve with cream.

Magpiecomplex · 16/08/2025 21:14

Despite lacking the punctuation you often see in AI text, the facile arguments in the parallels thread seem like the sort of thing it would spit out.

On a separate note, I love the German for damsons! It's such an amazingly satisfying word to say!

I think the OP on that one is drunk!

MarieDeGournay · 16/08/2025 21:23

I've just read the plopper-thread - though in fairness, he has come back onto the thread once or twice with more eejitry, so technically that's not a plopSmile
It's part of a trend - they make up some thread title that is either pro-trans, anti-GC or neutrally inviting, just to have it appear on the list of threads on MN.
Maybe they score points for it on Reddit or something😠

That was a very interesting exchange about German liqueurs and grape juices, I'm imagining Igneo, Banned and Midgetastic dancing in the streets after a glass or three of Zwetschgenschnapps 😃
Zwetschgenschnapps.: 18 letters, of which only 3 are vowels! Is that a record?

Myrtle - how are you doing today? there's always a 'dip' in form after surgery, isn't there? All that adrenaline leading up to it, and then the surgery itself, and then, unfortunately in your case, the problems after you got home..
I hope things settle down soon and your recovery gathers paceSmile

We used to get peaches for pudding when I was a kid. Tinned peach slices with Carnation condensed milk. Food of the gods.

MarieDeGournay · 16/08/2025 21:39

My granny used to come home from the market where she did her shopping with a bag of plums, she'd peel them and roll them in sugar and we'd make a total mess of our faces and our clothes eating them.
Strangely, it was decades later that it occurred to me that they were 'sugar plums' as in the fairies...
We never called them anything when we were kids, words were superfluous and then impossible as we slurped them into oblivion in minutes flatGrin

Bannedontherun · 16/08/2025 21:46

Mum nan would take us down her garden to the veg section with a bowl of sugar. We would pull out rhubarb stalks and dip the ends in sugar and much on them.

she also served up apple sandwiches with a thick layer of Kerry butter.

I'm known for being the first on and last off a dancefloor (actually totally true)
I never thought about Zwetschgenschapps only having three vowels, it's a good word. Another word with lots of consonants is Pfingsten (Whitsunday/Pentacost), so Pentacost Sunday is Pfingstsonntag which is 14 letters and only 3 vowels.

We had evaporated milk on ours as only my mum was allowed the condensed milk (she used to make herself condensed milk butties. Blghhh)

This is so not what that plopper expected what would happen on his brave journey into Mumsnet.
