Transgender woman treated as hostile invader when joining women-only app

The Guardian:
"Transgender woman treated as ‘hostile invader’ when joining women-only app Giggle for Girls, court hears"

www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/aug/05/transgender-woman-roxanne-tickle-treated-as-hostile-invader-when-joining-women-only-app-giggle-for-girls-court-hears-ntwnfb

Let's rephrase that:
"Man treated as ‘hostile invader’ when joining women-only app Giggle for Girls, court hears"

I know there's whole threads on Giggle vs. Tickle but this headline just caught my eye.

Guardian innit.

the pro male bias there is ridiculous

myplace · 06/08/2025 09:12

I’m disappointed with SM today- the M&S incident is getting unusually anti woman coverage. Generally it’s been very ‘get real’ on my streams. This one isn’t.

Coatsoff42 · 06/08/2025 09:14

Women aren’t allowed to talk amongst themselves, they have to let men join in. Also, even if there are no men there, women can only talk about things men approve of.

PestoHoliday · 06/08/2025 09:14

Well he is a hostile invader, isn't he? By definition.

It's not a space for him, the creators don't want him there and he's trying to force his way in anyway.

I was going to say the same thing, he's a man invading a womans space, what's not hostile about that.

The Guardian headline got it right for a change, although probably not for the reasons they think. 😂

DisappearingGirl · 06/08/2025 09:20

Exactly! I wasn't sure if the Guardian was subtly making this point, or was completely oblivious.

OP posts:

Probably oblivious - it’s the Grauniad. And yes hostile invader treated like hostile invader.

Startingtocollapse · 06/08/2025 09:23

He is a hostile invader 🤷♀️

Startingtocollapse · 06/08/2025 09:24

No idea why my 🤷♀️ has come out like this 🤷♀️

SirChenjins · 06/08/2025 09:25

Women have been dealing with male hostile invaders in one form or another for centuries - plus ca change. We've got really good at spotting them, even if they try to disguise themselves in frocks and lipstick.

Well done, Giggle.

NeverOneBiscuit · 06/08/2025 09:28

I think hostile invader is the perfect description for all men trying to enter women’s single sex spaces. As such we women are legitimate repellers!

JustFish · 06/08/2025 10:03

Well, yes. Quite.
His behaviour in trying to join the app, harassing Sall G with multiple emails, searching out her personal phone number to contact her further, the court case, the fact that the behaviour of one man having a tantrum at being told no has effectively halted the apps development and launch as an online space for women....
All of it illustrates the need for the app, the problematic behaviour of men online and that he exhibits the typical behaviour of a man hostile to female only spaces: invading, destructive, colonising, hostile and unwelcome.

I'm wondering why the Guardian are covering this but not the Peggie tribunal

Well I suppose because even the Guardian might find defending the male individual involved in the Fife case challenging.

DefineHappy · 06/08/2025 10:19

Has anyone found out how he got Sall’s private contact details to call her, etc? That has me concerned, as I absolutely concur that he was/is a hostile invader.

OuterSpaceCadet · 06/08/2025 10:22

Thanks Guardian for that phrase! The boundary trampling transwomen so beloved of the BBC and Guardian do feel like hostile invaders.

I was reading that Butler inspired AI on another thread this morning and thinking by Butler's own definition these particular transwomen really do fail at "woman" because their performance is so damn male! (Shit is Butler a terf?)

Justme56 · 06/08/2025 10:23

I think about the requirements that were given to Sal pre the first court case. Specifically the TW must have a say about what is said on the app. I can only imagine it would end up like trans Reddit, where the constant everything is transphobic would mean that most actual women would just leave. So yes hostile invader perfectly sums up the situation.

NPET · 06/08/2025 11:56

Potentially from looking up the registered business address on the ABN records might have given him a start.

Guardian UK and Guardian Australia have completely separate news operations. (As does Guardian US.) I think the US and Australian operations are probably even more biased towards gender ideology than the UK one.

Oh wow - I didn’t know personal mobile numbers etc were publicly available from there! That’s scary…

This is from Guardian Australia, not the UK team. Guardian US and Guardian Australia are very captured.

Probably a misprint.

To be fair, I think it was on a previous email signature and she hadn't realised it was on an email she sent.
