I stopped at a pub today on the way to our holiday destination . I'm not going to say where as it doesn't matter. But inside they had 2 toilets
One labelled men and the other 'inclusive' with signs for M and F.

I've always known the whole trans issue was inherently a greater issue for women but to see it so blatantly on the doors of toilets was sobering. Eg Men are provided with single sex spaces, but women. Tough.

Yes I know it's illegal and I could have said something. I chose not to though, as rightly or wrong l didn't want to cause a scene with my family present on a way to a holiday.

I am going to contact the pub instead.

Hmm. The plot thickens. I've just checked their Instagram account and photos taken 2 years ago show the toilets as male and female so this is a relatively recent change.

It is the lazy option as it means they dont have to remove urinals. But it sucks for women.

BundleBoogie · 03/08/2025 17:09

Just grim and far too common these days. Well done for following up with the pub - the vocal but tiny minority of men’s rights activists needs a counter voice.

Enjoy your holiday.

Livpool · 03/08/2025 17:10

So women just have to suck it up then?! Ridiculous

mrshoho · 03/08/2025 17:22

It's infuriating.

See this from Edinburgh fringe today too. So progressive and clever.

Just, wow.

It’s like they just have no idea why we have sex separated toilets. I mean, why even bother with the little man/lady symbols at all - just have a free-for-all. That at least would be honest, if not legal.

cofffeeee · 03/08/2025 17:40

Go for a pee wash my hands get on with my day.

cofffeeee · 03/08/2025 17:49

I have just had a though all this toilet talk threads.
Toilets on a train no problem toilets on a plain no problem every other toilet is a problem.

anyolddinosaur · 03/08/2025 17:50

Review it on tripadvisor? And obviously stop somewhere else on the way back.

Its a toilet nothing to think about.

I don't think this is legal. Either both men and women have a single sex option or neither.

ChatGPT:
In the UK, a pub (or any public venue) cannot legally provide only a male and a mixed-sex toilet without providing a single-sex facility for women. This would likely be unlawful under the Equality Act 2010, which protects against sex discrimination.

Here's why:
Provision of services (like toilets in a pub) must not disadvantage people based on protected characteristics—sexbeing one of them.
Toilet facilities are considered essential services, and failing to provide appropriate access for women would amount to indirect sex discrimination.
Mixed-sex toilets do not legally substitute the need for single-sex toilets for both sexes, especially in spaces accessed by the public.

What the guidance says:
According to UK government guidance (e.g., from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government):
Public venues should provide separate, clearly marked male and female toilets, or:
If gender-neutral toilets are used, there must still be appropriate provision to ensure privacy, dignity, and equal access for all users.

In summary:
❌ A setup with only male and mixed-sex toilets, but no female-only toilets, would almost certainly breach legal obligations around non-discrimination and accessibility.

You said you had just had a thought on it. So what is your thought on why a unisex toilet on a plane is safe but other toilets may not be?

Justme56 · 03/08/2025 17:57

Should have explained the link in case you don’t want to open it. It’s about a 17 year old girl who was recently raped in a train toilet.

Do you seriously think a plane toilet is comparable to toilets with many stalls from a safety perspective?

mrshoho · 03/08/2025 17:56

You said you had just had a thought on it. So what is your thought on why a unisex toilet on a plane is safe but other toilets may not be?

Maybe because those are single occupancy toilets and nobody can wait for a vulnerable woman or girl to enter them and follow them in.

lechiffre55 · 03/08/2025 17:59

Single occupancy toilets are not the same as shared toilet spaces.
Pretending otherwise is dishonest.

Again its a toilet i just thought about other places.
God god we will soon see women walking about with buckets soon because of the fear of using a bloody toilet.

winzom · 03/08/2025 18:03

It's the principle dear train plane poster. Bio women just can't have much for themselves. That's all.

mrshoho · 03/08/2025 18:05

Isn't it great that some people have the freedom to mock women at any given opportunity when we campaign for single sex spaces. The privilege and arrogance of some men shines brightly 🌞

Mochudubh · 03/08/2025 18:10

Just waiting for "but your toilet at home is unisex" to make an appearance.

ETA I did have an elderly relative who insisted gentlemen used the downstairs loo, ladies used the bathroom, so even the above isn't necessarily true.

UpsideDownChairs · 03/08/2025 18:11

If it was a place I frequented, I would be very tempted to make another women's symbol and put it on the men's toilet.

Of course then I'd have to take one for the team and actually go into the stinking place, probably with busted cubicles and no toilet paper given what my sons say.

Yeah, it always does. I wanna see what happens when somone's taking a poop in the comfort of their own home and I walk in and tell them them to chill out.
It's a stupid argument made by stupid people.

Are you being deliberately obtuse with your question? Trains and planes have single occupancy toilets with the toilet and sink behind the door. I'm guessing you're male and hard of thinking!
