Spent the day on Ian Dunt's Bluesky. Well that was an education, bloody hell!

Fortunately he's got a lot of push back on his substack that absurd article

but yes it is most definitely blue(hair)sky

NotNowFGS · 26/07/2025 17:51

He says he doesn't read the comments when he posts on this topic so I expect he will not notice. Folk on his thread were vicious. I thought twitter was bad but that place is something else.

Ah but he liked some of the comments under his sub stack article - so he does read them. Only the fawning comments obvs.

It’s because people think they are better people for being on Bluesky rather than the ‘evil’ X.

He says he doesn't read the comments

Which explains why he goes round and round in circles.

He can't seem to comprehend the idea that women need and have rights.

NotNowFGS · 26/07/2025 18:03

You might have something there. What a toxic bunch they are.

OP posts:
LittleBearPad · 26/07/2025 18:17

To busy being convinced of his own rightness to bother about women.

Crouton19 · 27/07/2025 08:31

He says he doesn't read them but somehow knows they are full of hate. He is reading but not comprehending. He stood up for Helen Lewis when, I think, there was some sort of outcry when her voice was used in a computer game. She is absolutely the lightest touch sex realist (which I don't have an issue with) but was still considered too terfy. But Ian was having none of it. Where has that Ian gone? I have all his books and he certainly seems a very diligent and thoughtful writer, but the trans issue makes people see things that are not there.

HPFA · 27/07/2025 08:46

Ian also did an event with Julie Bindel, I think his radicalisation is quite recent.

Bluesky is not fully TRA - you do see GC posts on there., admittedly mostly of the "toilets not sports" genre. I'm hoping that continues because many of us dont want to be on the cesspool that is now Twitter.

Merrymouse · 27/07/2025 09:15

He seems very upset that a walking group couldn't be organised in a way that would exclude everyone except what I assume he would call 'cis men', but doesn't seem to understand that under his preferred interpretation of the EA, that isn't possible either.

ThatCyanCat · 27/07/2025 09:20

Yes, I used to like him, I still like his old stuff, but that's what he is now. Hugely disappointing. After all that, he's not actually progressive. It's all about men and women need to put up with it. How original.

X is a bin fire but it's where certain individuals I want to follow are most active so I use it for them and just ignore the rest of it. Bluesky is actually just as much of a bin fire but doesn't realise it.

worstofbothworlds · 27/07/2025 09:22

I'm on there (I'm an academic and most have left Twitter/X). I have a little GC circle so I think we are growing.
One day I was accused of lying on X because we have a really well integrated Syrian refugee community locally and of being alt right on Bluesky so I guess I have the balance right?

Theswiveleyeballsinthesky · 27/07/2025 09:22

Started his career as a journalist at Pink News - possibly when it was less bat shit

JoanOgden · 27/07/2025 09:27

Disappointed to hear this, though I stopped reading Ian Dunt a while ago because he just loves to posture around emitting sweary rants. Reading his work is like being stuck with a ranty male friend in the pub while the other drinkers start looking at you sympathetically and mouthing "are you OK".

Ha, you sound like my kind of person! Pissing off both sets of extremists is just my cup of chai.

I think I ignored the rants because I respected the detailed technical analysis. Now I wonder whether the detailed technical analysis was correct.

SlipperyLizard · 27/07/2025 09:52

Just read the transcript - he clearly has only listened to lawyers like the fox basher and Robin Moira White who purposefully pretend the SC judgment has many interpretations even though they know that makes them either (1) stupid or (2) liars.

WorriedMutha · 27/07/2025 09:57

I'm not on Blue-sky and left X last year. I was fiercely anti Brexit and I find it disturbing that some of the heroes of the anti campaign are now such swivel eyed trans nuts. Namely Jo Maugham and Dunt. I'm still anti Brexit but I now wonder if they just got high on being patronising and shouting at 'stupid' people. Shouting at terfs is going about as well as shouting at 'gammon' did.

Yep and my frustration is how (exactly like brexit) they can't or won't see the open goal they're giving to Reform with this especially as the new Magic Grandpa party has one of Labour TRA in chief Zarah Sultana as a key player so will be totally TWAW

but yeah sure Ian and co you keep on denying reality because that's working out so well politically

Exactly!!

i thought Bluesky would be kinder, but no - kindness only goes one way, and TRAs and their allies are just as hateful. One to avoid.

NormalAuntFanny · 27/07/2025 10:16

I could hardly bring myself to read that, it's like something from a parallel dimension.

What really strikes me is it's written completely in the abstract, there's no consideration at all in any way of women or of the possibility of bad actors or any nuance or opposing views which aren't just 'hate'.

There's just this pure category of 'trans' people as if that was a monolithic group of basically victims who require whatever they want at any time.

It's strange how him and James O'Brien have become utterly dogmatic and as I see it totally wrong about this - can this really just be pure sexism?

Interesting to see the two comments it offered my were both completely opposed to his position and basically quite sensible - almost as if even his core readers are opposed to his position.

He could have just read one sentence in the SC judgement.

"We can identify no good reason why the legislature should have intended that sex-based rights and protections under the EA 2010 should apply to these complex, heterogenous groupings, rather than to the distinct group of (biological) women and girls (or men and boys) with their shared biology leading to shared disadvantage and discrimination faced by them as a distinct group"

Ironically, I think his determined ignorance betrays Johnsonian character traits.

I think most people voted tribally on Brexit, and it has become increasingly obvious why so many people didn't feel they were part of the 'Remain tribe', for reasons that have nothing to do with stupidity or racism.
