All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

Yes i too wonder about Bradley fuckit

back to my house

I think the front door is solid wood of an ancient origin. It gets stuck a lot.

upon entering it smells of burning wood, an open fire.

my furniture is old and worn but comfy.

the living area is the kitchen and lounge.

i have a kettle that sits on the old stove and whistles when it is ready.

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 22:52

Sounds lovely @Bannedontherunand very welcoming.

Errol remembered the name correctly. I’ve searched Badley Fuckitt and a few threads come up. Seems that’s the village we live in when we’re not in the Blue Stocking. My search is a bit dodgy though; it only takes me to mid thread and there’s a lot of scrolling back to read from the beginning. I think Badley Fuckitt was in the thread title, but it only took me to mid posts. Nice to know where we are though!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/08/2025 22:54

My ideal home, in Badley Fuckit is probably a bungalow - or a house that has enough space downstairs to be a bedroom and bathroom if necessary.

But the best part of my home is the library cum craft room - it has enough shelves for all my books (and my future books), storage for my craft supplies, a big table for cutting out, and for my sewing machine, a computer and printer so I can look up and print knitting and crochet patterns, a wood burning stove, and some deep and comfortable chairs (that are deep and comfortable but still easy to get out of), so I can sit and knit, and watch TV there. There’s a small kitchen (for snacks and drinks) and a loo just outside the craft room library, so frankly I’ll only have to leave it to go to bed.

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 23:00

Sounds great @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

Yes, I’d need a fire in mine too; not sure whether to go wood burner or huge open one.

What does your house look like from the outside?
Just so I’d recognise it when I’m passing..

MarieDeGournay · 06/08/2025 23:07

A little cluster of houses of different kinds around the Bluestocking is a lovely idea, Swash, and yes it would have made our 'swooping en masse' a geographical possibility Smile

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/08/2025 23:08

A nice stone farmhouse, with the craft room/library in an annex, @Swashbuckled. Since it is a dream house, the garden is lovely - in reality, my mum’s green fingers have definitely skipped a generation, and I can’t keep a spider plant alive.

There are plenty of chairs around the fire, for any Bluestockingers who drop in - and I’ve asked their advice gerbils to make sure everyone’s favourite snacks are available. And in the summer, we can open the French windows onto the lovely courtyard garden, and sit out there with chilled white wine.

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 23:13

I’m in @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

I think my place might be more suited to winter gatherings by the fire. Plenty of room, yet paradoxically cosy. I can’t imagine what my garden would be like; I shall have to think about that.

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 23:17

Okay, so my garden is a coastal cove where my galleon parks itself. There’s a deck/porch type area we can view it from. Nice on nights when the moon is out.

I can pick cockles and mussels if we’re feeling peckish.

SionnachRuadh · 06/08/2025 23:21

The thing about the outdoors life, or the painting life, is that there's a dignity to it that people instinctively respect.

Not so if, when a mere fox cub trying to learn the ropes of office life, you get told to fix the colour printer, sure it's a simple procedure, and you end up with yellow arms like Homer Simpson and people sticking their heads round the door for a chuckle.

MarieDeGournay · 06/08/2025 23:24

Let's see... my fantasy house - oh dear, it would be white and modern and gleaming which isn't in the right spirit, is it?

I had very bad asthma as a child, and one of the triggers was house dust. As a result, old houses = dust to me, so I like new houses and shiny surfaces.

But I'm telling myself that if I can accept quokkas and gerbils working in my local, I should be able to imagine a more story-book village-y fantasy houseSmile
Something small but Georgian would do nicely, I think - simple lines, balance, high windows, wooden floors, pale walls..
I'll have wisteria around the front door.... hey, I think I've talked myself out of obligatory modernism Grin

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 23:29

Could you have a pristine white Georgian house @MarieDeGournaywith wisteria around the door? Sounds like Swedish minimalism inside; very nice. Lots of space and light and no asthma!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2025 23:36

I don’t think there’s any reason you can’t have a beautifully designed modern house if you want one.

Agreed.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2025 23:43

As for me…hm, maybe something more like a hobbit hole, except by some trick with windows that are big on the inside? I’d rather have a grassy slope than a roof to maintain (though of course all tiles and thatch in B. F. stay put). Somewhere on Swashy’s cove would be good, perhaps tge gardens adjoin? though I’d want a smaller boat.

Bannedontherun · 06/08/2025 23:49

I am scandi style in real life

I was asleep under a pile of leaves four years ago so missed so much…

i was there when we had to scarper cos the “Rossers were coming” , that was the marker for the end of my hibernation.

good to chatty with you swashy i missed you from our eeeek moment with boiled

laughed so much that night.

off to bed xxx

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 23:51

A smaller boat is a good idea Errol. That way we can hop in it and go to the Blue Stocking. Also nice for coming home in when we’re feeling too weary, or drunken, for the walk. Assuming the Blue Stocking has somewhere to park it, which I’m sure it does.
I’ll be equally neighbourly, of course, and we can use my galleon for bigger loads. Like when you need to bring home rolls of turf to re-sod your roof.

I remember the “Eek” moment with Boiled. That was very funny; I laughed out loud! It was another level, really. Kind of back stage brought to the front.

Night, Banned.

Hm, I think we need multiple smaller boats. I was thinking of a sailing dinghy or two, but something with a quiet electric motor for pub runs and fewer ropes would be better for pub runs!Grin

Swashbuckled · 06/08/2025 23:57

That’s true. I’ll look into it; give it a google.

That's very nice of you Errol and Swash, but I've talked myself into a Georgian house thank you all the same.
It would have to be a small Georgian house, I don't want to be The Big House in the village!

I like the sound of Swedish minimalism, Swash, I'll google it, but it sounds like my kinda thingSmile

Though it might make our conversations slightly obscure, with lots of silences, about the geese flying east... and yet... the birch trees remain.... I fear Agnetha will not return before the quokka herding festival...

Swashbuckled · 07/08/2025 00:05

I suppose you could always just pop to IKEA @MarieDeGournay

MarieDeGournay · 07/08/2025 00:07

I suppose I'm drawn to Georgian architecture because I'm a Dubliner, and we have lots of it.

When the national rugby team of Georgia came to play in Dublin, some wag remarked: The Georgians are in town - and they want their architecture back!😁

I think little boats that are used to get to bigger boats are called 'prams', and little boats used to unload cargo from bigger boats are called 'lighters', or at least they were on the Thames.

So we could do with a few prams and lightersSmile
I'm off to bed too, though I'm loathe to leave, it's so lovely hearing about your fantasy houses.

G'night all, wishing you all a quiet sleep and a sweet dream🌛

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2025 00:19

Women had bumboats, like Little Buttercup in HMS Pinafore
(sorry… Marie had provided the perfect final post for the evening!)
before we build too much more, the Bluestocking will need new premises tomorrow I think

FuzzyPuffling · 07/08/2025 07:51

I send myself to sleep every single night by designing houses in my head..
I need light, a log burner, a sea view and a garden. That's about it!

IRL I have a degree of agoraphobia, so home is very important to me.

Chersfrozenface · 07/08/2025 07:52

I"d like one of those stone and timber hoses you get in the Welsh Marches, with a discreet brick extension at the back for the kitchen and bathrooms.

Ooh, or a small Victorian vicarage, only with double glazing and mod cons.

A friend of mine used to fantasize about one day having a Welsh stone cottage but with a Dublin Georgian door.
