All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

I had a sort of a pod ‘thing’ that clipped on to my crutches after my knee surgeries / dislocation (ouch!). It was big enough for a travel cup, a kindle but sadly not a sandwich box. I’ll see if I can find a link if that might be useful Myrtle?

That would be awesome. Thank you!

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2025 09:10

would some sort of cross body bag work?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/08/2025 09:33

I’ve just had a nice half hour having serendipitously listened to Natalie Haynes Stands up for the Classics, on Greek women poets. It’s very funny in places.

AsWithGlad · 05/08/2025 09:47

I just caught the end of that broadcast, @ErrolTheDragon . I thought the presenter had a good clear voice and it was easy to follow what she was saying.

MarieDeGournay · 05/08/2025 10:05

I can't hope to match Bowednotbroken's wonderfully named, as well as highly useful, 'Buckingham Crutch Pod' but here's my idea for the toilet, Myrtle:
Toilet Frames & Surrounds | Toilet Seats with Arms | Bathroom Aids for the Disabled & Elderly – Manage At Home
I know it's all relative, but I was surprised to see that they aren't wildly expensive..

Gosh we love a challenge here, don't weGrin?

Bowednotbroken - I don't think I've seen you dahn the Bluestocking before, forgive me if you've been a regular for yonks and I'm displaying my poor observational skills, or if you're a regular with a name change - both of these have happened to me when I bounded up to welcome someone 'new' to the Bluestocking and ..oops!
If you are new, you are very welcome; if you aren't new, you already know that you are very welcomeSmile

I did briefly wonder if 'sit and do my teeth' was a typo 😃

If it's okay @MyrtleLion all this talk of spiral staircases, i think you live in a lighthouse.

I heard spiral staircase and assumed Myrtle lives in a castle.

The Bluestocking - holding the line and losing the thread
lcakethereforeIam · 05/08/2025 11:09

A castle with a lighthouse and one of those fireman pole things. Which might not be that useful for a little while.

Don't hospital have a bod who can advise the newly or briefly disabled, or at least point you towards someone that offers that service?

Myrtle, my mental image is of a Magpie, a Dragon, a 16th-17th century French feminist philosopher and author presenting as a punk angel, a humanoid cake/cakoid human, a puffin, and various others all crowded into your shower/loo, the air full of the sound of the extending and snapping back of metal tapes, lots of stroking of chins, and sharp intakes of breath through teeth, and murmurs of 'Could work, could work - although...' 😄

Trying with a new picture

@MyrtleLion proving that, at any moment, the urge to sing The Lion Sleeps Tonight is only a whim away!

I realise I have been very absent in here over recent days - I have times when my brain goes completely blank, and I can't think of anything useful to say - but I do like sitting quietly in the corner, with a large glass of amaretto sour, and some knitting.

And I have just thought of another pertinent joke - what's the fuel efficiency of a pirate ship? 15 miles to the galleon.

AlexandraLeaving · 05/08/2025 12:17

😍only a whim away 😂 so true @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius so very true…

I’m definitely going to get one of those crutch pods @Bowednotbroken thanks for posting them. I’ve found that even a light knitting bag dangling from the handle bangs against the stick and has an unbalancing effect so a carry pod would be fab.

@MyrtleLion my dad had one of these (poss not exact make, but similar). They are brilliant. He can pack it easily if he is going away for the weekend and can use it for all sorts of situations where a grab rail would be handy. www.diy.com/departments/set-of-2-support-grab-handle-suction-cup-bath-shower-children-and-disability-aid-safety-grip-rails-bathroom-rail-handles-disabled/5038673450100_BQ.prd?&&&&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21001176478&gbraid=0AAAAADt-XHmOtzuVFWiBGUzyP0zbUidJS&gclid=Cj0KCQjw18bEBhCBARIsAKuAFEbs6j4so5ErKtZRfYl29lOwGwUYaaojZ3ImrnfeoVY4Aiipkl5Whe0aAoT4EALw_wcB

Bowednotbroken · 05/08/2025 12:23

You’re welcome! Glad to be of use.
Thank you Marie - I am frequently here but only speak up from time to time, so easily forgotten. Last time I was even featured (as a tree!) in one of the pictures. Who knows which thread that might have been! 🌳(not my tree but the nearest I could find!)

MyrtleLion · 05/08/2025 17:23

Wow, thank you all so much 💙💙💙

I will look into them all.

We already have a suction handle that we bought to move the kick panels back into place in our kitchen, so I will see if that can help.

@Magpiecomplex , are you stalking me?!!

Now that you’ve all found the castle, I took a picture of everyone in my en-suite.

Genuinely, I am so grateful for all the support you are providing.

Definitely. It will be handy for evening events.

MarieDeGournay · 05/08/2025 18:16

You've been saving up your funny-isms for us, Woley, and they're very funny😂

My mind has gone blank because when I was describing all of us crowded into Myrtle's loo, I couldn't for the life of me remember what you look like in the Bluestocking, Woley - your username isn't exactly a dead giveaway, is it - remind me, please!Confused

I've done it again, haven't I - welcoming a newcomer who is not actually a newcomer at all - sorry Bowednotbroken, just because I didn't remember your name does not mean that you're forgettable! Anyway here you are, and oh look, here's a gerbil, so let's have a drink😄

Magpie - 'do we want a glowing quoll at the Bluey?'
Is the Pope from Chicago?!
of course we do! we could get a number of them and they could be living fairy lights in the treesSmile

MarieDeGournay · 05/08/2025 18:19

Drama at the real Bluestocking!
Mr Myrtle, aka Mr Walrus, was strolling - well, not quite strolling, but you know what I mean - past the Bluestocking the other day to see how it was looking, as he has heard so much about it..
He thought it looked ready for it's Grand Opening sometime soon...
to be continued

Then he spotted a man somebody trying to break in! He challenged him and asked him his name - B. or Bee something, he thinks - and called the police who forcibly removed him to the Staunch Ally, with a stern warning that the Bluestocking is for women only. Biological women only. Natal biological women only - so off to the Staunch Ally with you so they can raise your consciousness for you😄

Thank you to Mr Walrus, he was in the right place at the right time to spot the intruder!

Marie that is genius!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, that particular 'bee' does not belong here.

Edited

Mr Walrus is delighted to be MN-famous and to have thwarted an intruder and sent him on his way to the Staunch Ally.

Thank you for including him 💙

Excellent suggestion Marie!

Glow in the dark marsupials called quolls really do sound more like something from JKRs imagination than real creatures, but all the more reason to have some 😁

Excellent suggestion Marie!

😍

That's what we always needed, without knowing it.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 05/08/2025 19:29

Sorry to have missed out on the visit to Myrtle's castle. But I've been thinking of her - e.g. saw this the other day.
