All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

I wonder what Jane Russell's going to pull out of the bag to distract from the weakness of her side. I'm hoping something like this

Oh i love that.

lcakethereforeIam · 01/08/2025 21:13

I nearly went with this one.

Does anyone know the film? Asking for a friend.

Diamonds are a Girl's Best friend

Poor girl, unable to work out why the chaps aren't interested in her . . . .

ErrolTheDragon · 01/08/2025 22:40

thanks Banned.

Ms Russell, together with a certain ‘Ms’ White (the dream-on team?) participated in some more legal entertainment in the pool case.

I have a gastroscopy tomorrow morning, so nil by mouth from 4am, which means now.

I’m in two minds about sedation. On the one hand anaesthetic throat spray and I might gag and most patients have this. On the other hand I might gag and many patients have this. (Both assessments from the confusing patient leaflet.)

Has anyone had one? And what did they choose?

DH says have sedation.

JanesLittleGirl · 01/08/2025 22:54

You talk of fossas and ferrets and fiddler crabs as if they were real-world options. We can add whatever furbelows and fol-de-rols that we want; and give them whatever characteristics that we wish. This is the Bluestocking.

I recovered from last night's party by spending 20 minutes in a very hot bath and then getting a bacon roll and a coffee from Gregg's. The simple solution is often the best solution.

lcakethereforeIam · 01/08/2025 23:01

Never had sedation @MyrtleLion but I hope whatever you chose it all goes well for you.

I think you need a certain amount of reality to hang the virtual world of the Bluestocking off…

….says the person named after a dragon from a flat planet with a high magical field borne through the multiverse on four elephants and a turtle. A case of a scaffolding of unreality supporting some solid edifices of truth. That way round maybe requires genius.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/08/2025 23:11

I’ve never had anything like that either, Myrtle. Idk, maybe if you’re sedated you won’t care if you do gag?Confused
Best of luck with it anyway.Flowers

I've had both, and I say sedation!
I survived the un-sedated one, but it was all a bit full-on.
They wouldn't give me sedation the 2nd time because I'd have no one with me overnight - one of the downsides of living on one's own😐
Hope it goes OK Myrtle.

Cake, thank you for the tutorial on martens - I never heard of stone martens.
Fossas and stone martens in one day!
Ferrets and pine martens look like cousins, don't they, but I'll take your word for itSmile
Love the Jane Russell scenes, I had forgotten that there was 'that' court scene😂

Excellent summarising, Banned!

G'night all. Early night tonight, Stockingers, no wild parties two nights running!🌛

Britinme · 02/08/2025 02:58

Best wishes for tomorrow @MyrtleLion. Take all the drugs.

AlexandraLeaving · 02/08/2025 07:01

Good luck @MyrtleLion - another (uninformed, in my case) vote for all the drugs. Hope it goes well.

I had one many years ago. Have the sedation- i scarcely noticed the procedure. Good luck x

Igneococcus · 02/08/2025 07:06

Oooh, stone martens, second time they came up this week. They are quite infamous in Germany for damaging cars, they like to get under the bonnets and chew cables. My sister had damage to her break tubes which is pretty scary (discovered during some other repair, not by her breaks failing while driving luckily). In my West coast Scotland Lidl this week I had a look at the car specials in the Middle of Lidl and there were cans and cans of "Anti-Marder-Spray", I bet 99% of their customers are completely baffled by what that is for and why. dp is now wondering if it would work on the voles that are chewing through the stems of our climbing beans in the allotment.

Igneococcus · 02/08/2025 07:07

Good luck, Myrtle

DeanElderberry · 02/08/2025 08:05

Good luck Myrtle.

The two days I was out of the Bluestocking (dunno, bit tired, think it might be lingering effect of last week's bee sting) you lot partied, we saw @MyrtleLion wonderful knitting and @MarieDeGournay's images of the fantastic real Bluestocking and its interior, and dear @Swashbuckled came back, with her bittersweet news of that urn.

And I was too distracted by ferrets yesterday evening to comment on any of it.

Maybe a mongoose then, they kill snakes don’t they?

Sand cats are very cute to look at, but their diet is mostly snakes and scorpions.

MyrtleLion · 02/08/2025 08:28

Thank you everyone. I will have the drugs. I was listening to a podcast about women’s pain being ignored and decided I don’t want any discomfort.

Should be back later this afternoon.

I’m missing my cardamom tea!

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2025 09:37

I'm going to the zoo. I'll spring any likely candidates.

All the best @MyrtleLion. If I see any of your family I'll let on for you.

Our own badger medic is a mustelid, of course

I'm sure there was a long-running chat about mustelids and pinnipeds on another thread in MN at some point, though possibly not in the Bluestocking.

As I recall, it was very entertaining and educational.

MarieDeGournay · 02/08/2025 11:10

SionnachRuadh · 02/08/2025 08:24

Yes but this is the Bluestocking, where any cute animal magically switches their diet to ...to anything Stockingers don't like eating, so things like vegetables, salad, lemon drizzle cakes..Grin
So we don't have to worry about them gnawing on scorpions or savaging our gerbils - if they're cute, and cuddly, they'll behave perfectly and we'll have them; thank you for today's scouting trip to the zoo,Cake😄

Deano, you were missed. I have this at-the-back-of-my-mind census thing of who hasn't been in the Bluestocking for a few pages, not a very exact science, more of a feeling of 'I hope [Stockinger] is OK, I don't think she's been around for a bit'.
But I had seen your name on other threads so I knew you weren't completely missing in actionSmile

My good will is better than my memory - somebody had an MRI on their foot and may need surgery, and I'm sorry to say I've forgotten who it was😞 remind us, so we can include you in the 'get well soon from the sore paw' list with Myrtle, when she has her surgery soon.

Hope the gastroscopy goes OK Myrtle. Your first cardamon tea after fasting will taste extra delicious!

BeLemonNow · 02/08/2025 14:22

I have had an endoscopy before, I think most go for the sedation as long as they have someone to take them home. My dad said "I can now understand why people take illegal drugs" 🤣.

I don't want to cause worry but they didn't give me enough of the sedative as I was severely underweight at the time and it wasn't too bad other than the gagging.

Good luck either way!

MyrtleLion · 02/08/2025 14:28

The procedure went really well and nothing sinister was found. Step 3 is next (after chest x-ray and gastroscopy) - an ENT referral where they will probably confirm laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) — where tiny amounts of stomach acid or digestive enzymes creep up into the throat and inflame the vocal cords.

Then treatment with increased dose of omeprazole and Gaviscon Advance, possibly for good.

MarieDeGournay · 02/08/2025 14:46

That's good news, Myrtle, hope the treatment works and your vocal cords will be in tip-top form for the next raucous Bluestocking lock-in😄
Enjoy your cardamon tea!
