All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

Swash, I'm so glad Bear is back with you. At least now he is close.

MyrtleLion · 31/07/2025 13:21

Beautiful shawl and cannon cosy!

The completed square.

  1. The bottom half was knitted before I watched AsWithGlad’s video.
  2. The weird white/green row is because the pattern creates a dot on the third row. I did two rows of white and carried the pattern on, so it also happened between white and cream and wasn’t as visible. I decided to start the pattern again when I moved to red, so the dot is in the block colour not on the join.
  3. Even the back looks neater with the new video instructions.

I love that my learning can be seen in the knitting.

I will start another multicoloured square today.

It's lovely. Reminds me of the flag of Ethiopia 🇪🇹

Very pretty @MyrtleLion.I wonder if galleon sails can be knitted? Or perhaps a flag if that feels like too tall an order. Sails patterned by intarsia would be quite spectacular but perhaps would let the wind through too much to be efficient.

Swashbuckled · 31/07/2025 14:24

Bear says thanks to you all for the welcome home; he says it’s good to be back. It feels just like Boiley’s picture.

Loving the artwork in the Real Blue Stocking, Marie. That is so touching.

Definitely taking you up on the painting help, Magpie. But don’t let that stop your important research on the anti fouling agent.

Ironing the sails, Cake? I have to confess that they have never been ironed before, so you might need the steam setting.

Wow at the cannon cosy. That cannon is going to feel very loved.

I’m not working on the other galleon today; just being in my own galleon with Bear. But, with all this help, I feel I can afford to take the day off, and we’ll have it ship-shape in no time!

Agree re the Ethiopian flag.

MarieDeGournay · 31/07/2025 14:30

I love the texture you've produced with those stitches, Myrtle.
You see the white stripe? Right - you knit two long strips, and then one more which is a lot shorter using that same stitch.
Then you form the two long ones into a circle, place one on top of the other, and the the shorter one on top of that..
And there you have it: a 'Knit Your Own Colosseum'😁
edited to say you have to look back at Myrtle's squares upthread a bit...

Beautiful cannon cosy.
Though Clarice, ever conscious of HSE considerations, would like to remind us that if we intend to use the cannon for a salute or to repel boarders, it’s a bit of a fire risk and also she thinks cannons need to cool between firings.
On the plus side, if it’s purely decorative then a nice soft cover will save bruised legs. There’s a path in Oban which when we visited a few years ago had bollard/lamppost cosies which were both decorative and functional.

Up to McCaigs tower and also around Atlantis and along the Esplanade? I know some of the people involved in knitting these.

I wish we still had the laugh emoji!

Lovely colours @MyrtleLion

EdithStourton · 31/07/2025 17:19

Nice colours there, Myrtle!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/07/2025 17:41

I'm jealous, Myrtle. Mine (white & shades of blue) is 'running behind', which sounds most unpleasant. Thanks Evri. Or maybe they mean it's running along after the van. I'd make an AI image of that but the AI threw me out & I can't find my password. On the upside, I've been shopping at M&S today & just had fresh coffee with a custard choux bun with choc fudge topping which is juuuust within my nearly-diabetic allowance. Mmmmmmmmmmm

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/07/2025 17:43

💙to dear Swashy. What a huge day. So glad you have your darling Bear at home with you.

MarieDeGournay · 31/07/2025 17:59

I see over on the Happy Birthday JKR thread that Cake has invited JKR to the Bluestocking for a birthday drink - great idea!

Now gerbils, be on your best behaviour, and everybody - NO FAWNING OR TOUCHING HEMS OF GARMENTS, OK? No kneeling and murmuring under your breath Oui, c'est elle - c'est la Déesse, just act totally normal, right? 😍

If you have 6mns to spare-

At the back of the holy temple,
decorated with flowers and gold,
a woman appears...
I can still see her.
A woman appears...
I can still see her.
The prostrate crowd
looks at her amazed
and murmurs under its breath:
look, this is the goddess
looming up out of the shadow
and holding out her arms to us.
Her veil parts slightly;
what a vision, what a dream!
The crowd is kneeling.

Yes, it is she, it is the goddess,
more charming and more beautiful;
yes, it is she, it is the goddess,
who has come down among us.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 31/07/2025 18:08

OMG, we're going to have to tidy up, just in case.

Magpiecomplex · 31/07/2025 18:32

Gerbils and quokkas reporting for duty!

Right, that's me finished on the spare galleon. I am now Janes MBE (I cleaned the Messdecks, Bathrooms and 'Eds).

BTW, can Capability Capybara take a look at the anaerobic digester? It really shouldn't smell like that.

Britinme · 31/07/2025 19:17

<Hurriedly fishes out smartest clothes just in case... >
<Puts up Happy birthday banner just in case>
<Realizes JKR is now 60, which makes me wonder what I've achieved in 75 years...>
<Realizes I have a new book coming out in the spring so that's at least 15 to JKR and 5 to me, though I'll never catch up>

EdithStourton · 31/07/2025 19:23

Magpiecomplex · 31/07/2025 19:53

Gosie is on bar duty tonight. Looking extra keen!

Just popping in for one little drink.

Oh, are we expecting someone? Only the place looks very spruce and everybody seems to have dressed up.
