All women welcome, pull up a pygmy hog, the bargerbil will serve you a drink, the flying squirrels will bring you something to read and the goats will do...I'm not entirely sure.

There may be more than the usual amount of chaos as we transition to the new thread.

We’re back from the tribunal. Large gins for everyone as it was very grim.

The images reflect our frustration at the racism revealed and then the relief that Naomi was able to discredit a witness who had it in for Sandie.

@SionnachRuadh I tried to get you on our side of the bar with a gin, but AI wasn’t having it. I think the glass held by the bar gerbil is for you.

That's ok, I have been trying to catch up on important reading, while ignoring distractions from noisy wee beasties

My computer has informed me that the celebration du jour is Beatrix Potter’s birthday. Our various small animals will doubtless be engaging in appropriate festivities - I think they’re going to stage an exciting re-enactment of ‘Mr McGregor’s garden’.

It should be a national holiday!
Not being British, I didn't have Beatrix Potter books as a child, so I discovered her in adulthood and with fresh eyes. What a talented women - a brilliant writer, and a wonderful artists.

Without her inspiration, would our little furry friends be here at all? they certainly wouldn't be wearing natty little shirts and waistcoatsSmile

She also left her property to the nation to be held in trust, unspoilt.

It became the Lake District National Park and birthed the Trust.

What a woman.

I think Beatrix Potter studied mycology, did detailed paintings of various fungi. I think she was rejected by a Royal Society (forget which, a sciencey one) because woman. I believe Diana Wynne Jones had an anecdote of being told off by her for swinging on her gate. I'm prepared to be corrected.

Should have said birthed the National Trust.

I've just spent £32 on wool. Because it's free delivery.

I think I'm a bit obsessed.

In two weeks Ill be spending at least eight weeks in a non-weight-bearing cast, so knitting might be all I can manage.

I've learned proper decreasing, so I made a bit of bunting yesterday.

Britinme · 28/07/2025 20:24

I don't think I know how to decrease other than by knitting two stitches together.

ssk
You can slip two stitches onto the right needle, then put the left needle into the stitches, yarn over as a knit, then drop them off.
ssp
As ssk, but purl wise
sl1k1psso
slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over- a bit like casting off.

I used ssk. It slants to the left, so I decreased first that way, then at the end of the row I did knit two together because it slants to the right.

Instructions in the images.

Aha! Now I know! Thank you.

BeLemonNow · 28/07/2025 21:33

I have wandered over miserably from the Sandie Peggie thread. Is there are gin to spare or has it all been drunk by now?

Magpiecomplex · 28/07/2025 21:41

Still plenty of gin. I'm going to assume you have your own lemon, Lemon.

Hello BeLemonNow. There is always gin here. Pull up a gerbil and get comfy.

BeLemonNow · 28/07/2025 21:44

Ah thank you for the warm welcome and the bar looks very well stocked! Yes I carry a selection of my own condiments and various fruits. Currently an excess of homegrown tomatoes if anyone would like some?

EdithStourton · 28/07/2025 21:47

I've been busy all day - work, recently-widowed friend over, committee meeting - so can anyone provide a brief update on the Tribunal? Or am I better off reading Fifer's remarks?

FuzzyPuffling · 28/07/2025 21:49

Tomatoes, you say? Bloody Marys all round then.

SionnachRuadh · 28/07/2025 22:01

I don't feel there's any point in me hanging around the thread currently. I'll check back in tomorrow when the tribunal restarts at half nine quarter to twelve.

Vodka and Irn Bru would be great thanks.

Bannedontherun · 28/07/2025 22:06

NasturtiumsAreUnderrated · 28/07/2025 22:07

'Excess of homegrown tomatoes' strikes me as a contradiction in terms @BeLemonNow!

Or else it's the title of a missing Sparks album

BeLemonNow · 28/07/2025 22:16

Tomatoes are too good not to share, how about that?!

Let the bartender knock up some extra strong Bloody Mary's.

Excellent sauce (sorry) of Vitamin C and other goodies.

Who wants the first Bloody Mary?

Boiledbeetle · 28/07/2025 22:37

The gerbils are back from Woolly Hugs HQ

Except Maud. She's staying to cat sit, plus KP has grown rather attached to her.

I had wondered what was taking the gerbils so long, apart from the return to the house to pick up Gratin who was hiding in the hopes of staying with Maud.

Now I know why.

<goes off to nick a gerbils Happy Meal>

You might just want to skip today's coverage. Shit show all round.
