Apparently it's people who don't believe you can magically change sex who are the loonies! Who knew?

Macclesfield which was Conservative from the dawn of time until last year? That Labour seat won't last long if this is how they approach their hard-won swing constituencies.

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 19/07/2025 16:03

Feel that Tim is going to have to do some grovelling in Macclesfield. Bound to be plenty of swivel-eyes there especially as he is busy with queering academia and not focusing on local issues. His local party have probably gone WTF

Helleofabore · 19/07/2025 16:07

The best argument against them is a conversation with them, because they look swivel eyed and honestly, they’re not very well people, I don’t think, the ones that I’ve met.

Oh. Yay. Discussion? At last!! Bring on the discussion. I hope they come armed with evidence. Looking forward to it.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/07/2025 16:10

Over 2,000 comments - thought this one summed him up perfectly:

"Mr Roca's Gordon Brown moment 😂
I agree that Parliament is a toxic cesspit, though. It's because it's full of people like him"

Screamingabdabz · 19/07/2025 16:16

Yes the article is depressing but the weight of feeling from the comments restores your faith in sanity.

RoyalCorgi · 19/07/2025 16:41

I never know what's going on with these people. Do they look at our beliefs (humans can't change sex, men can't be women, a female nurse has the right to get changed without a man present, men shouldn't be allowed to join the women's football team) and think, 'That's insane. They must be mad to believe that stuff'? Or is it some kind of pose?

TrainedByCats · 19/07/2025 16:57

Whilst it’s not the main point I find a MP using an ableist comment like swivel eyed as a slur disheartening. It’s not really in the spirit of what DEI should be.

Imnobody4 · 19/07/2025 17:32

Just realised that this exists. I thought MPs were supposed to represent constituents not just single issue groups.

Exclusive: LGBT+ Labour raises record funds for party's LGBT+ candidates - LabourList https://share.google/eSO3tveZFDimwJngw

“These funds will be pivotal in getting more LGBT+ Labour MPs elected, helping Labour form a government that will push forward crucial reforms – from a full ban on conversion therapy to modernising the Gender Recognition Act. It’s through this representation that we can truly champion LGBT+ rights and create a fairer society.”

so if we can bring the debate back into being one based on rationalism and compassion – and actually as we know, the facts – I think that’s a much better place for all of us to be.

Yup, the GC view, informed by science, safeguarding and equity.

they look swivel eyed and honestly, they’re not very well people, I don’t think

Sounds like he's describing the transgenderists, who demand that women provide validation to strange men by stripping naked in front of them, allowing strange men to listen to women urinating and rummage in bins for used tampons, and insist that there's no difference between a middle-aged, 6'+ man and the female athletes he's thrashing.

So we have to make sure, as passionate we are, that we’re talking passionately but sensibly and bringing people around.

Which we are doing, assisted by the science and by common sense decisions by our courts.

Mr Roca has described himself as “Macclesfield’s first openly gay” MP

So why did he want his gay constituents deprived of their rights to express their sexuality in the privacy of their associations and their homes? (Oh, sorry, the answer's obvious, of course: because he's not bothered about gay women, only gay men. And some heterosexual men.)

You’ve got the full gamut of human qualities there – the most amazing people really fighting for incredible principles and values,” he said.
Yup, GC people.

“You’ve also got people who are motivated by fear, envy, greed, all sorts.
Yup, the people who took from others, who got used to being a sacred caste that managed to persuade others that women should have nothing for themselves, not even their name, are now having to get used to the fact that they are no more special than anybody else, and that the law applies equally to them.

borntobequiet · 19/07/2025 17:50

I think the function of constituencies now is often to validate the people who become their sitting MPs in all their ideological whims.
I disagree with my own MP’s politics, and haven’t ever voted for her, but she’s a good, old-fashioned hard working constituency MP.

Anyone reading this who lives in the misogynist little twunt's constituency - go see him, reveal that you don't believe humans can change sex and make him say it to your face? Please?

Yes - please do this. Make him say to your face that women have no right to boundaries from men, that children are there to be transitioned via a sex change out of being lesbian / gay !

PruthePrune · 19/07/2025 18:00

Slightly OT but WTF is "Queering Academia"? Why does everything have to be "queered"?

Waitwhat23 · 19/07/2025 18:02

Plasticwaste · 19/07/2025 15:17

Thought this was going to be Bee's latest thread!

So did I! 😆

JeremiahBullfrog · 19/07/2025 18:03

👀

Ingenieur · 19/07/2025 18:05

Tim Roca is intellectually incurious, stupid, and incapable of weighing risk or synthesising information.

Now we know!

eatfigs · 19/07/2025 18:07

I think he's got a reasonable point about US. Read this earlier today from WoLF which makes the point that women's rights aren't being considered in their Supreme Court judgments involving gender identity: https://womensliberationfront.org/news/our-side-is-winning-in-court-for-the-wrong-reasons

Huge contrast with the reasoning shown in our Supreme Court with the FWS judgment. So I feel he's wrong to draw parallels between UK and US on this issue.

Our Side is Winning in Court. For the Wrong Reasons. — Women's Liberation Front

The Supreme Court just decided three cases with enormous consequences for women and girls: United States v. Skrmetti , Free Speech Coalition, Inc., et al. v. Paxton , and Mahmoud v. Taylor . To read the majority opinions, you wouldn’t...

It makes sense to encourage candidate from a wide range of people. But labour have confused 'people who are LGB or T' with people who are politically focused on 'LGBT+ politics'.

Whatever support he recieved from LGBT + Labour means that he was elected on both the labour party and the LGBT+ tickets. And that seems to mean insulting GC constituents.

Bold move for an MP.

SionnachRuadh · 19/07/2025 18:56

It seems like whoever was overseeing candidate selection (wasn't this a close friend of Lord Alli on secondment?) was looking for particular qualities, and serving the constituency wasn't top of the list.

In any case, he's the former deputy leader of Westminster Council, and that tells me all I needed to know. The Tories had run Westminster forever, and even when they didn't have corruption scandals they'd got far too lazy. Labour took power narrowly in 2022, and the first things they did were raise councillors' allowances and reduce bin collections.

OldCrone · 19/07/2025 19:17

Mr Roca has described himself as “Macclesfield’s first openly gay” MP

So would he consider a transman as a sexual partner? Or is he a closet transphobe?

MarieDeGournay · 19/07/2025 19:24

“So if we can bring the debate back into being one based on rationalism and compassion – and actually as we know, the facts – I think that’s a much better place for all of us to be.

'The facts'?? what ones would they be? that sex is binary and immutable, or some other set of 'facts'

This looks like another case of 'mirroring' [or 'parroting', if I'm feeling impolite] back words, phrases and ideas from the GC critique of trans ideology - we've been saying for years that reason and facts are on our side, so now they saying that they are the ones with reason and the facts.

Superficially it sounds OK, and I'm sure the trans audiences lap it up, but it makes no sense when you take GC arguments, based on GC analyses, and just parrot the words without the underpinning of fact.

As I've said before, when I see TRAs parroting back things we've been saying for years, it reminds me of a fractious 4 year old way past their bedtime shouting 'No YOU need to go to bed, YOU'RE overtired'😄

FrippEnos · 19/07/2025 19:39

WTAF is "Queering academia"?

Also Does he realise that a "pro trans" leader of the EHCR would mean that they are not pro-equal rights.

EmpressaurusKitty · 19/07/2025 19:43

Jo Bartosch has done a fantastic response article. Hopefully this link will work.

Where can I buy one? Do you think they stock them at Kenji?

PronounssheRa · 19/07/2025 20:06

A fuller recording is here x.com/SandraLouR14/status/1946641040120627302

He says he wants the next head of the EHRC to be a 'friend to his community' and claims he has colleagues working to make that happen.

It seems being a friend to the community is more important to him than having an actual appreciation of equality and the law.

All eyes on the recruitment process, people.
