Great point about 'diversity'...should really mean diversity of viewpoint, rather than just diversity of superficial characteristics.

I used to love her. I even wrote to her c/o her chambers to tell her how much I admired her.

And, now, she behaves like this; like a common or garden TRA.
It’s bloody heartbreaking.

After reading 'Eve Was Framed' I thought she was great.....can't get my head around the trans activism position now.

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 15:45

Trans commissioner........?

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 15:55

Enforcement of Supreme Court Ruling.......

"People concerned about your appointment"

"I believe in freedom of expression...not closing down debate.....we needed better dialogue 10 years ago..... FILIA and WPUK broad based conferences around Women's Rghts that I attended. I've also spoken at conferences when i have disagreed with some attendees.....I don't like women being haraassed.

" You've not taked about LGBT" ( we've not brought it up until now.....)
Waffle waffle......

" I will meet and discuss with all organisations" " Robust legal advice is always required" Guidance comimg out late summer or early Autumn"

One panellist has obviously been reading Mumsnet...talking about transwomen being photograhed in toilets......

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 15:57

"Best to get this issue off social media"

"I will always be a feminist"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:00

Rosie Duffield

"How will the commisssion gain the trust of women's groups"?

"Dialogue"

"Important that people understand the law and how it will be implemented"

" Female only services are very important"

"Different groups require different specialist services"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:02

"Back to "how will you gain the trust of trans organisations?

Make sure everyone has access to the services they need.

SionnachRuadh · 01/07/2025 16:04

Helena Kennedy entering the realms of mysticism here

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:05

Helena Kennedy:

" Common humanity" . " We are all the same" .

"Trying to deconstruct types of women into what body parts they have...her point is not clear" "Policing toilets"

"What will aged transwomen do at a station at night?"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:06

"Different services for different people...is compassionate"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:07

'My job is to help ensure that all have access to the facilities they need"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:09

Sarah Owen:

"What about transwomen.....?".

" Women also have article 8 rights"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:10

It is important that trans organisations lobby for speccific services......

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:11

"The failure in having reasoned, resepctful dialogue has led to this toxicity"

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:14

Welsh panelist wants Dr Stephenson to " condemn"......taking photos of transwomen in women's toilets.

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:16

She's definitely standing firm that women also have rights and needs. So that is good.

SionnachRuadh · 01/07/2025 16:16

We really do have a bunch of feckless MPs here who think the main job of the EHRC Chair is to reassure the trans community that they can carry on waving their willies around in the ladies.

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:19

"Practical solutions to everyone's human rights are required"

Harassedevictee · 01/07/2025 16:26

I have a feeling the committee are going to have a bun fight as clearly some members are not happy with her stance on women’s rights. However, I think the Dr came across as concerned about all PCs and would be a good Chair.

Glamourreader · 01/07/2025 16:26

A really good way of people who are not entitled to use women's toilets avoiding being photographed in women's toilets is to not be there.

Easy

Bannedontherun · 01/07/2025 16:28

Well they gave her a ride and she handled it well she slipped in CEDAW as well.

Was not budging on womens rights and mentioned disability, so think she is good.

spannasaurus · 01/07/2025 16:31

I liked her tactic of referring to the vast numbers of disabled people who can't access toilets whenever someone asked about which toilets the transwomen should use.

Yes. Anything less than that will be 'hate'.

Likewise, men performing willy waving at women should never encounter any kind of consequence or negative experience for doing so.

Cloud bloody cuckoo land.

What should aged transwomen do in a station at night? What any other person does, surely?

Shortshriftandlethal · 01/07/2025 16:32

They were made to understand the women also have rights.....must be quite a difficult concept for them to grasp. Dr Stephenson handled the grilling well, with reason, but also with firmness of intent.

SionnachRuadh · 01/07/2025 16:32

I thought she did well. Understated but firm, very calm and moderate in style, understands that there's more than one PC. Kept her cool when some of the committee were trying to be a bit goady (how many times can you ask "how will you gain the trust of the trans community"?)

Imagine there will be quite a discussion among the members.

Very glad that Alton was in the chair rather than Sarah Owen. He's an old pro who knows how a select committee should work.
