Thank you, Marie. I am genuinely not worried. I've had a hoarse voice for years, which has annoyed me - I've lost the top end of my singing voice and my job involved a lot of public speaking. During Covid I had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with silent reflux and I've been on tablets ever since. But they don't seem to improve things.

When I had my asthma attack and saw the nurse a few weeks ago, she noticed how hoarse my voice was and advised me to contact the GP, which I've done. My voice has improved a little since then as the asthma made it worse.

And now I have all these urgent tests, when really it's just unmanaged GERD and needs stronger/different tablets/medication etc.

I do hope they can fix it though.

MarieDeGournay · 15/07/2025 14:48

That sounds very distressing, Myrtle, and I hope all the tests come back with good results. Sometimes doctors can sound almost gleeful when they come up with a remotely possible diagnosis - 'well of course it could be the bubonic plague..' without thinking of the effect it will have on the patient😠

Gelsomina [streetname G-semolinaGrin] and Capability are adamant that chimneys are the right thing for the Bluestocking - I overheard them at their tea-break saying things about 'aesthetics' and 'architectural consistency' and 'critical to the legibility of the structure as a spatial composition' .. which makes me wonder why just the other day they referred to chimneys as 'sticky up bits on the roof'.
I think they are cleverer than they are letting on and just play the role of cute little furry animals when we're around😦

I spotted this and as there are so many clever needlewomen here, I thought I'd share itSmile
Wool map of Ireland a great yarn for Co Wicklow friends

Amazing! 🧶❤️

MarieDeGournay · 15/07/2025 17:02

Fuzzy, what a wonderful picture! Perfect!💙

Myrtle - I hope they find the appropriate treatment ASAPSmile

Britinme · 15/07/2025 17:04

That is an astonishing map...

Good luck with the tests Myrtle. I hope whatever it is turns out to be readily fixable.

I had to visit the vampire and have blood drawn yesterday. All well except glucose levels marginally high. Weighing ourselves when we got back from our six week trip revealed that we were evidently on the gain-a-pound-a-week diet during that time. I live in hope that if I can lose a little weight the inconveniently high glucose level will reduce from 104 mg/dl to below 100.

EdithStourton · 15/07/2025 17:23

Myrtle that sounds very tiresome and unpleasant - here's hoping improved meds can sort it out. And I'm sorry about your brother.

I was put on what is alarmingly called 'the two week cancer pathway' a couple of years ago 'just to be on the safe side' after a routine test. I pulled myself together and was passed from medic to medic for what felt like most of that fortnight and the eventual conclusion was 'you seem to be fine'. Several years on, and it seems NHS resources were wasted on me.

Can't they call it something else? The two-week diagnostic pathway? The two week urgent referral pathway?

On a much happier note, the cutting of the hay and the harvesting of the cereals is making the local hare population more visible - I saw two absolute beauties yesterday.

Popping in because been absent planning/getting to family holiday that is going tits up [putting it mildly… have started a thread as I am just so pathetic] . Reading the thread so that I can find my funny bone and hoping the gerbils can sub for my doggos.

Need booze and laughs…

ifIwerenotanandroid · 15/07/2025 22:42

Aw. Just read your OP & that's grim.

Couldn't decide which pic I liked best, so here's two. The AI seems to have given you Louboutins, which is nice. OTOH it missed out the row of 'dogs for hire' intended for your entertainment.

Second pic has more booze? Think that’s needed right now!!

Oh, and the more cuddly gerbils the better. My doggos are such a boon when the shit hits the fan. Smelly breath and rancid farts notwithstanding.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 15/07/2025 22:54

You're looking better already.

Some days all you can do is keep on keeping on. I hope the food & the views are good, at least.

Sorry things are not good🙁
Here are some cuddly gerbils, and lots of them, at your service, Ma'am!
Sending hugs - better still, a gerbil with some gin and nonic😀
(These are from a previous thread, I occasionally rummage through the old thread galleries to recycle other people's AI)

Love the gerbil’s suits. They look like extras from a gerbil themed version of Pride and Prejudice… is Mr Gerbil Wickham hiding in there?

CautiousLurker01 · 15/07/2025 23:13

Hmmm this is AI’s idea of Lizzy Bennett and Mr Darcy…

ifIwerenotanandroid · 15/07/2025 23:27

Oh - Miss Bennett! Your enormous family of rodents - are they well?

MyrtleLion · 15/07/2025 23:27

Had a conversation with the clinic at 4.45pm. Xray was clear so they want to give me a gastroscopy. No dates till August so she made me a fake appointment on the 28 July, as this would open up the appointments for August. We agreed Sunday 10 August.

However this is two days before my surgery and I'm not comfortable with sedation less than 48 hours before a general anaesthetic.

We also have a family party on the 9th, but I probably shouldn't drink alcohol the day before a gastroscopy as my stomach might be affected. And it's the last booze I'll have for a while. Because surgery.

DH is cross with the fake appointment thing. He said I needed to be seen within two weeks as promised and if she could make a fake appointment why couldn't it be a real appointment.

I think I'm going to have to call them tomorrow and try and get an earlier appointment.

And the final balloon payment for our car has not been taken by the car finance people. On the one hand, more interest for our account, but on the other, I'm going to have to call them tomorrow and sort it out and probably make a manual payment. It was supposed to be taken by direct debit yesterday.

It's moments like this when I realise just how much I contribute to our lives. He may cook, shop, iron and do the laundry, but I'm the one who sits for hours on the phone and sorts shit out.

@MyrtleLion the life admin is so misunderstood. I needed a travel letter for DCs ADHD meds - over 3 weeks it took 6 phonecalls, 4 emails, an online consult and receiving/responding to 9 NHS texts… and then paying the bloody invoice. DH thought it just happened as a result of an online request. I’d never slate the NHS as have so many friends who work for them, but when you are trying to be seen it just adds to the underlying stress, doesn’t it? Fingers crossed you have some luck on getting an earlier appointment tomorrow!

Rosie the Red Panda has recruited her pal Rigoberta to job-share tonight because she feels that both Lurky and Myrtle need hugs right away!Smile

Colin is also available and can snuggle on two peoples laps at once if they sit close enough together on the sofa.

CautiousLurker01 · 15/07/2025 23:43

My youngest adores red pandas! Despite being a 6ft 3 lug of a lad, he has multiple plushies on his enormous bed… at home. Whimper. The ones at Marwell Zoo are beyond cute. Would cuddle those any day!

Thank you. I do all the insurance, budget, holiday arrangements etc. I've also arranged lunch with our neighbours on Saturday and a day out to the coast on Thursday. Tomorrow I'll be taking his DD to the optician to sort out a low vision clinic referral.

I am good at this, and I enjoy it, but I also have to come up with suggestions which is annoying because he'll say no to a lot of things/places/ideas.

Anyway it has made me realise that I am not a lazy cow by not doing the housework. Though I miss my cleaner desperately and we can't afford a new one yet.

Aww! Thank you!

Off to bed to snuggle a red panda.
