edit: The Council of Europe has previously been very critical of how the UK deals with its trans citizens, it will be interesting to see if anything comes of this.

Transgender campaigners call for European rights body to report on UK

You'll have to summarise the pertinent points of the article, I don't read the Guardian.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/06/2025 08:34

lol and?? So a captured organisation will write a sad faced report that the UK government isn’t giving men (TW) access to women’s spaces

and the Uk government will file it in the bin as there as just a few billion other things it needs to worry about and mens sad feelings are not top of the list especially as the public isn’t remotely on the side of “let’s let men into women’s spaces”

Fluffyholeysocks · 29/06/2025 08:36

Not enough traffic on your other threads Bee?

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 29/06/2025 08:38

Supreme Court ruling was very clear.

What are ”trans rights” anyway?

Thank the gods for AI:

Transgender campaigners in the UK are urging the Council of Europe to investigate a recent Supreme Court ruling that defines "woman" and "sex" based on biological sex. This ruling, they argue, violates the European Convention on Human Rights by restricting transgender individuals from using facilities aligned with their gender identity. The Equality and Human Rights Commission's guidance following the ruling has further marginalized transgender rights. Campaigners warn that without intervention, conditions for transgender people in the UK could deteriorate, prompting their call for a report on the state of trans rights.

So, does this mean that the Council of Europe does not respect female people's needs for single sex provisions? Is that something that people want to bring to our attention? That they think the Council of Europe should prioritise male people over female people when it comes to the needs of female people and the rights of women and girls?

Gosh.... that is something to consider isn't it? Not sure it is a positive though.

Jigaliga · 29/06/2025 08:41

The UK is harsher than European countries on trans rights?

I won't believe that until I see stats re what proportion of each country's population is trans

Whine Whine, hyperbole, outright lies, its not fair and plenty of stamping of feet, all whilst ignoring the fact that women have human rights too

So you cannot read it, consider it and summarise things yourself.

Good to know. That probably explains a lot. Thanks.

Feel free to tell me to piss off and I will go - you asked me to be here and I responded ffs.

If you can't deal with a single trans person responding what does that say about your 'movement'?

potpourree · 29/06/2025 08:47

Bee doesn't understand the ruling, judging by one of their many other threads, so actually reading about it might do them do some good!

I think you're confused? I didn't ask you to be here and what are you 'responding to' by starting yet another thread? Its not clear.

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 29/06/2025 08:49

Nope, T people can’t “use facilities that align with their gender identity” [whatever the flip that is] following the SC ruling. Hallelujah for common sense!

Stamp your feet, write letters, whine and moan but sadly in life # you can’t always get what you want #

Good Lord, so what?

All your threads are about obscure transactivists demanding people act, left right and centre, because s'not fair.

Just use the bloody gents.

we don’t have a movement mate however much you would like us too, we just have a grasp of reality

and given how TW are all up in women’s spaces even though we asked nicely for you to stop, asked firmly for you to stop and then in the end had to go to court, I doubt telling you to piss off would have any impact at all

What “movement”?

Please tell me what “trans rights” are.

SionnachRuadh · 29/06/2025 08:52

TLDR: we are sad because we might be restricted from waving our willies around in single-sex female spaces, so we're asking politicians from, I don't know, Azerbaijan or somewhere, to pass a resolution condemning the UK Supreme Court.

Seems like a lot of effort when the gents is right over there.

Who 'asked you to be here'?

And no, telling people to 'piss off' is against the Talk Guidelines. No one can do this without potentially it leading to being banned. If you didn't know this, why are you posting on a site without understanding the guidelines for posting here. If you did know this, why would you try to get people to act in a way that is detrimental to their access to MN?

TeenToTwenties · 29/06/2025 08:55

@BeeSouriante
What rights do Trans people not have in the UK that other people have?

They have the right to marry, not be discriminated against in work, housing etc.
They have the right to use toilets according to their sex and access services according to their sex.
They have the right to access NHS healthcare for 'non elective' things such as broken legs, cancer etc.
They have the right to wear what they want and to change their name.

So what 'rights' are we talking about?

The point is Bee, that other people have rights

it isn’t a human right to use opposite sex facilities or force people to go along with your self perception

the supreme court’s reasoning was very clear and coherent. Perhaps use the time you spend making weak arguments on MN, on reading it instead?

TheKeatingFive · 29/06/2025 08:58

What 'rights' are we talking about her Bee?

Why would having access to sex-specific spaces that don't belong to you be a right?

My AI's response to your AI -

The United Kingdom is a sovereign state with an independent legal system, and the UK Supreme Court stands as the highest judicial authority in the land. Its decisions on the interpretation and application of UK law are final. While the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights can offer guidance and critique under the European Convention on Human Rights, they do not possess the authority to override Supreme Court judgments.
Calls for the Council to investigate recent rulings—particularly around the legal definitions of "woman" and "sex"—underscore ongoing tensions around rights and identity. However, it remains a fundamental constitutional principle that UK law is determined by UK institutions. Engagement with international bodies should be framed as dialogue, not subordination. Upholding sovereignty also means ensuring that legal changes, if any, arise through proper democratic channels—not external pressure.

My AI has highlighted the pertinent parts for you, if you think this manoeuvre by the Anti-Women Brigade is going to make a difference, you are sorely mistaken.
