The 4 minute mile - no difference between men and women in sport.

Sorry if this has already been posted but I notice that a female athlete has been really trying to become the first woman to achieve the 4 minute mile.
She had pacemakers, special clothes, special shoes, lots of training and support. Sadly she didn’t manage it.
Back when it was first done by a man he walked to the stadium as a warm up and had a fried breakfast on the way.

But there is no difference between men and women in sport.

Who's saying there's no difference?

The thing with sport is that it illustrates very nicely how different men and women are physically.

Faith is half the size of her pacers, she's going full gas, totally red lining and her team are maybe running at 70%.

You see Elliot Giles miles off the front 2 laps in.

People who want men to self ID into women’s sport at all levels to make the men feel “included” if they “feel like” a woman are suggesting there is no difference.

It is total bobbins and not science of course.

Lots of people are saying there is no difference. Women have been told they need to try harder. Also all the people who have been through male puberty who want to compete as women.

@HidingBehindTheWallpaperyou are spot on. And this is a really useful situation to use when discussing fairness in women’s sport with my teens. Brilliant.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 27/06/2025 19:13

The annoying thing is that if a man was allowed to run as a women, he could set a new world record in a women's event and which no women could ever match let alone best, like the man in the Women's Weight Lifting tournament in Canada did. 🤬

Absentmindedsmile · 27/06/2025 19:21

The trans researcher at Loughborough university did a study to try and demonstrate that there were no differences.

In fact the research showed there were clear differences (would you Believe it). Funnily enough this research is never mentioned by transwomen.

And Roger Bannister was a junior doctor. He was a very fine runner but he wasn’t training all day, every day. He was a true amateur. Went on to be a bloody good neuroscientist.

Kipyegon’s women’s world record time was 4:06 and change.

Meanwhile earlier this year this kid set a boy’s 15 and under world best for the mile of 4:05:48.

Edited

How long would that record stand if 22 year olds who really feel like 14 year olds could self identify as such and race biological under 15s?

I had to look this up the other day out of curiosity - over 2000 male athletes have run sub-4 minute miles, no woman ever has. It’s such a stark statistic that it should put to bed any future argument about differences between the sexes.

crumpet · 29/06/2025 07:16

If only she’d trained harder. That’s the argument. Isn’t it? (And also this in the excellent Boys v Women link!)

See also Serena Williams saying she could not beat any of the top men. I think she might have said any of the top 100, but don’t quote me….

Fabulous attempt but difference between women and men very obvious.

Thank you!
I’m not into sport at all, but that was an amazing watch. The support of the crowd and her pacers, the tech with the lights, just awesome.

The pacers were amazing, they were so aware of her and working so carefully to maximise her success.

And funnily enough despite all the accusations from certain parties, absolutely no doubt who was male and who was female. Faith is unmistakably female, despite her athleticism and all that jazz.

ShawnsLeftEyebrow · 29/06/2025 07:31

Wow, though, she's incredible (and so is the boy mentioned above)!

Serena Williams might have said that, but I think Martina Navratilova said it as well.

But no sane person would ever claim that women athletes can compete in sport on a level playing field with men, 99% of the time (I'm aware that Jasmine Paris has been the fastest person in some fell running events and it could well be that women could compete with men in events like darts and snooker).

tanstaafl · 29/06/2025 08:10

I’ve posted this link before on this subject, all 4 of this channels videos are worth a watch ( imo ) but this one takes the information from boysvswomen.com and stories in the media over the last several years together into an music video.
Appreciate it at the very least for the time spent creating the video.

skip to 4:00 for the physical differences if you wish.

plenty of apparently sane but completely ideologically deluded people do, unfortunately.
