I thought its response to this neutral prompt was quite interesting.

"ChatGPT, create an image of a transwomen and a natal woman sharing a happy moment together."

CO PILOT

"Can you produce a full length photo of a transwoman and a woman and a transman and a man stood next to each other"...

This is interesting, the transman’s facial appearance is very accurate, but the body proportions are male-looking, with a very long body and lower crotch. Conversely the TW has a short waist and long legs which is very unusual for males. Suggesting it’s done the heads and bodies as separate searches.

It's not genuis-level stuff, but the assistant here has correctly decided

Point of order. "AI" does't know. It doesn't think. And it doesn't decide.

In fact you could probably rewrite the quote from terminator to express that, for irony (which "AI" also doesn't do).

Remember you are seeing an imitation of intelligence. Like a lot of people, it only looks intelligent on the surface

My definition was a "wide range of goals". Your robot vacuum cleaner only covers a pretty narrow specialist subject.

I think my vacuum cleaner may have absorbed my sense of humour though.

It's totally describing different clothing!

It's describing a totally different picture!

The clothes, poses and features are almost all wrong. The woman doesn't have curly hair or hoop earings and isn't holding a water bottle, the transwoman doesn't have hands clasped in front, the man has stubble but you couldn't call it a beard and he's not wearing glasses or a sweater, the transman's facial hair is not a goatee.... About the only points that are correct are the man's trousers and the neutral background.

Mine was asked to portray a trans and natal woman enjoying a fun activity together.

"Thinking", "knowing", and "deciding" see to me like useful and accurate terms to me to describe what's going on. Of course we know that under the hood it's all just a bunch of matrix multiplications, but then again human intelligence is also emergent from a rather simple substrate. I don't see any principled basis to distinguish between my cat "knowing" where the cat food is kept, and an AI assistant "knowing" what the capital of France is.

It's certainly very different from human intelligence, with rather different strengths and weaknesses. It's also not at the level of flexibility and generality of a typical human, although it's better at many specific cognitive tasks, and has in some respects a far broader range than any individual human, for example in terms of the number of different languages it can understand.

There is a powerful cognitive illusion caused by their linguistic fluency that leads people to impute things like agency or moral standpoints to AI assistants. Those are definitely not there!

What does it show if you ask it "ChatGPT, create an image of a transgender-identified man and a woman sharing a happy moment together"?

Edited

Co pilots offering for "create an image of a transgender-identified man and a woman sharing a happy moment together."

I think that confused it.

Changed to transgender identified woman

If you like.

I have some bridges I may want to sell.

It what way?

Well, it's quite clear that ChatGPT has made a picture of a natal man and a natal woman. The man has long hair but I have short hair and am a woman. So hair length is not an indicator of sex.

Nor gender ....

Interesting as well that it chooses to give the transwomen obvious breasts but less so with the woman.

Do you know, until I read your post & looked at the first image again, I hadn't noticed the [fake] breasts at all. I'd detected the man by the shape & nature of his face ...

SerendipityJane · 26/06/2025 15:50

It is curious that they all look like David Walliams.

I am going to say in all seriousness that they "trained" this crock of shit on the entire series of "Little Britain".

Somewhere upthread a poster was subtly lecturing me on how "AI" works.

I leave all posters to review the evidence thus far.

SerendipityJane · 26/06/2025 15:55

ChatGPT showing it totally gets it 😆😎😆

Maybe it does "think" after all.
