'Members of the public should use facilities that correspond to their biological sex or the gender-neutral toilets.'

Male cleaners are employees (and in many places there's a sign on the external toilet door to indicate when a male cleaner is working inside). So it's not really the same thing.

Unless we have actual bathroom bill style laws that make it a prosecutable offence to use wrong sex facilities like some US states then "advice" will be ignored. "Convention" has been blown out the water. I don't see any appetite to make it the same footing as eg. caught shoplifting, not wearing seatbelts, drink driving etc.

If that's what's necessary to ensure women's single sex spaces, it's a sad day for society.

So you’re saying transwomen will break the law rather than respect it. And you’re thinking these criminals should be welcomed into women’s spaces. Why?

If people use the toilet according to their biological sex then transwomen should be using the men's toilets and transmen should use the women's.
Nobody would be breaking the law doing this but as I said, I wonder how people will react to this.

DiamondThrone · 23/06/2025 17:53

Actual quote on the Reddit thread about this:

"Members of the public should use facilities that correspond to their biological sex" so no change as that's not a defined term, trans women are biologically women, trans men biologically men.

Oh for the laughing emoji...

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/06/2025 18:37

What will the reaction be when a transman uses the women's toilets? Someone who looks like a man but is using what they should, biologically?

I don't see this making any difference to women's safety. Male cleaners are still permitted. Men will still go in if they want to.

There's nothing stopping you walking into my garden and eating the food on the BBQ is there. No garden police.

But obviously my guests would yell "what's this arsehole doing?" "fuck of out of here!" and if you didn't go we'd remove you and call the police.

BUT and this is something for you to think about. Decent people just obey the law in the first place.

For anyone with an ongoing and general problem with obeying the law we provide small apartments with bars on the windows.

It comes across as polite advice, not something that will be enforced.

Now that we've established that men are men and women are women there is no reasonable defence for a man caught following women or little girls into toilets or changing rooms.

There'll be a spot on the sexual offences registry for him.

Everyone got so used to this we've all forgotten how that would have gone done a few decades ago.

They can't say that people must use the toilets, that would be weird. No one must use any toilet.

Ha this was my thought too. But what if I don't need to go....?

But if women complain at least they won’t risk being disciplined or sacked. Everyone will know that the men shouldn’t be in those spaces.

Agree. I think 'should ' is fine.

It's increasingly obvious to those who so far haven't paid much attention that it wasn't that women were 'obsessed with toilets'... now that TRAs are being asked to use the correct toilet it's clear who are obsessed. Winning hearts and minds through boldly invading women's spaces.

So men won't go in if they're told not to - in the main, probably. But again I reiterate, I wonder what the reaction to a transman going in would be. Someone who, legally, should be using that facility.

if you spend your life trying to mislead those around you about your sex, your life will be more difficult than that of someone who is honest. meh. that's a you problem

You wonder how women will react to another women in the women's toilets?

Someone who looks like man, yes.

Someone who looks like man, yes.

Most still look like women.

In any case if a transman is indistinguishable from a man the Equality Act says they can be excluded from female single sex services as long as they are provided with an alternative

Lins77 · 24/06/2025 20:31

I'd suggest that said transman uses the gender neutral facilities, if they're worried about reaction in the women's.

That's what gender neutral loos are for.

FayeRC · 24/06/2025 21:35

I have taken my health sector employer to court over their trans staff policy. The case is on-going and in need of support to cover legal fees this summer. You can find it by searching for Faye Russell-Caldicott at crowdjustice.com

I will be planting sping onions this time. Hang in there love.

Someone on Twitter did say last week that if a certain person continued to use the women's toilets that they might just have their visitor's pass revoked.
I think if that is a possibility then he will just start using the gender neutral ones.

I'd like to think he wouldn't be stupid enough to try using the women's again?

But it depends whether he's looking for his righteous moment in court fighting for the right side of history.

I wonder if he'd represent himself?

Harassedevictee · 25/06/2025 00:55

I have a theory, maybe wrong, that they want to go to court over this issue to challenge the SC judgement. Choosing to use women’s toilets at events about the SC judgement where they are more likely to be called out gives an opportunity to claim discrimination, harassment etc.

Why would there be a reaction to a female using female facilities?

There isn't a single day that goes by on here where at least 3 different people use the same 'what about transmen' argument.

We know what a female and a male look like. Transmen look like short butch women. We do know the difference.

FeistyCat · 25/06/2025 06:04

They can't say that people must use the toilets, that would be weird. No one must use any toilet.

They can say males must use the male toilets.

They can say that easily.

This is just a copout really. 'Should' means they can have a choice. They're not listening to women. They're still not listening to us.
