'Members of the public should use facilities that correspond to their biological sex or the gender-neutral toilets.'

Good! Glad to hear they are complying with the law.

Lins77 · 23/06/2025 17:23

And everyone has the option to use the gender-neutral toilets, so there's really no reason for anyone to complain.

Although of course they will (complain, not use the gender-neutral toilets).

DiamondThrone · 23/06/2025 17:48

Meanwhile, over on Bluesky:

THIS IS A TOILET BAN!!!

🙄

DiamondThrone · 23/06/2025 17:53

Actual quote on the Reddit thread about this:

"Members of the public should use facilities that correspond to their biological sex" so no change as that's not a defined term, trans women are biologically women, trans men biologically men.

messybundles · 23/06/2025 17:54

It noticeably says 'should' and not 'must'

😡

They will still use the wrong toilets, apparently they are all now biological women 🙄. Further action will be needed. Did the guidence from EHRC say that to not enforce people using the correct toilets means the employer might be guilty of indirect discrimination?

Madder than a box of frogs.

Eventually a few will be prosecuted and that should help the grip on reality return.

I don't think that we need read to much into that. Use of 'should' rather than 'must' is important when it comes to statutory guidance but not when it's just an instruction to visitors. It would read a bit too toilet policey if they used 'must' rather than 'should'.

It comes across as polite advice, not something that will be enforced.

It comes across to me as an either/or choice

I suppose we will now see if men will obey the law and respect women's rights and protections, or whether enforcement will have to be introduced. Drink driving wasn't a prosecutable offense until anti social idiots made it necessary.

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/06/2025 18:37

What will the reaction be when a transman uses the women's toilets? Someone who looks like a man but is using what they should, biologically?

I don't see this making any difference to women's safety. Male cleaners are still permitted. Men will still go in if they want to.

ArabellaScott · 23/06/2025 18:40

Transmen can use the women's loos or the gender neutral loos. If they're going to cause alarm to other women, or are uncomfortable using the men's loos, they can use the gender neutral loos.

Male cleaners put up a sign to say they're in there.

'Men will still break the law if they want to' doesn't mean we don't have laws.

People used to smoke in public places but now anybody who lights a cigarette would be challenged. Social norms have changed.
Hopefully , it will not be long before trans people accept the fact that society now presumes that they will abide by the rules and will either use the mixed sex facilities or the facilities available for their sex.

TheOtherRaven · 23/06/2025 19:13

Flashers will still flash if they want to. Wankers will break speed limits if they want to. Burglars will burgle if they want to.

But the laws are there and enforced because they discourage, do stop all but the most antisocial offenders, and permit people to have clear boundaries, report and seek redress when they're offended against.

They can't say that people must use the toilets, that would be weird. No one must use any toilet.

Once upon a time, that would have been enough 😞

Redshoeblueshoe · 23/06/2025 19:50

Someone on Twitter did say last week that if a certain person continued to use the women's toilets that they might just have their visitor's pass revoked.
I think if that is a possibility then he will just start using the gender neutral ones.

And that's what we need to return to. The expectation that people will respect the laws and not out themselves as anti social individuals who threaten the safety of others - especially women and girls.

You forgot to mention the little boys with their mothers. Tsk tsk.

GoldenGate · 23/06/2025 20:31

Unless we have actual bathroom bill style laws that make it a prosecutable offence to use wrong sex facilities like some US states then "advice" will be ignored. "Convention" has been blown out the water. I don't see any appetite to make it the same footing as eg. caught shoplifting, not wearing seatbelts, drink driving etc.

Why is there not a head in my hands banging on a desk outside a toilet emoji?

So what’s the alternative? Biological men still getting a free pass to use women’s loos?

So you’re saying transwomen will break the law rather than respect it. And you’re thinking these criminals should be welcomed into women’s spaces. Why?
