"We have always been here"

Been noticing this a lot. It seems to be the new #TWAW #nodebate #bekind, after those didn't work.

I mean - lots of things have "always been here". Like women, for instance 😄

Just interested in new terms that arise, and how they are used to try and shut down comment.

That is literally not what I was saying. Please don't wilfully misread my posts, it does not give you credibility.

But you’re the one claiming female skeletons buried with “male” accoutrements could have been living as men as women would not have been buried with those goods. So by your logic, Joan of Arc and Boudicca were men. Now do you see the flaws in your arguments?

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 22/06/2025 20:49

If they have male chromosomes they are a man. Leave out the word ‘identity’ and it makes it very easy to understand.

But it is possible to have XY chromosomes and develop female anatomy. That's my point. Surely the existence of these individuals proves that biological sex can also be fluid?

CassOle · 22/06/2025 20:53

You have to look for the small external ears.

Fluid? What do you mean by fluid in this context?

what does this have to do with trans people? they claim to be members of the opposite sex, not an inbetween sex (I'll ask again!)

Maaaaate. Noooooo stop. Just stop. Biological sex is not fluid. Humans cannot change sex. The fact people with DSD exist confirms the sex binary. Not erases it.

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 22/06/2025 20:55

Sometimes when the whole “sex is a spectrum,” “DSDs/intersex people exist you know,” arguments come up, I wonder, do people not think about why we have two sexes? Like, the only reason? It’s for reproduction. Like that’s it - we are mammals, we want to make more mammals, we do that in the same way as every other mammal. So yes, the very definition of male and female is what gametes they produce - or in the case of DSDs, or indeed any other issues related to reproduction, what their body would produce if it was working properly. That’s it.

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 22/06/2025 20:56

springbirdss · 22/06/2025 20:40

It's relevant to the argument that there is a biological sex binary ('man'/'woman') that is sacred as people have described.

There’s nothing sacred about it, it’s a fact. Unlike GI.

also, can you explain the dsd that makes this happen as I'm not really convinced this is a thing?

generally things become clear at puberty. for example with "Penis at 12 syndrome," or 5-alpha-reductase deficiency (5αR2D), is a condition where individuals, born with female external genitalia, develop male characteristics, including a penis, during puberty.

Somebody with XY chromosomes is a male. Who may have a DSD.

There is no "fluid". There is just "fact".

I really do feel some people need a recap of the 'where babies come from' conversation

often they're not idiots. some of them are quite clever. but it's like they get so caught up in 'trans' their brains stop working

I said that it was a possibility that some prehistoric female skeletons with typically male burials were accepted as male by their society. I did not say that they were.

In fact I explicitly said it was impossible to know this.

Joan of Arc or Boudicca are well documented women leaders. What I said does not apply to them at all.

It rots people’s brains, it makes idiots of them.

Swyer syndrome

Then why are we not all heterosexual? If our only biological purpose is to reproduce?

Enough4me · 22/06/2025 21:03

Why would sexual reproduction ever have required a third sex when egg & sperm works?
Why would natural selection have led to continuation of a third sex if such a mutation could have occurred?
Do people understand humans are animals?
(Spring I'm looking at you).

Ummmm.. Swyer syndrome only affects males. It does not affect females. So er….. wanna try again?

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at.

I'm not talking about a third sex?

I'm talking about the possibility of sex being complex and fluid like everything else in the natural world.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 22/06/2025 21:06

springbirdss · 22/06/2025 21:01

Swyer syndrome

agreed. But so what?

I'll say it again, what on earth does this have to do with trans people?

There are roughly 800 people in the UK with Swyer syndrome. It's really rare. it's a developmental disorder. individuals unfortunate enough to suffer from it have bodies that don't work properly.

spannasaurus · 22/06/2025 21:07

There are some female DSDs with XY chromosomes eg Swyers. I think they all involve missing or non functional SRY genes which are normally on the Y chromosome.

Also CAIS where XY individuals can't process or respond to testosterone or it's precursors who appear outwardly female. I believe the majority of experts now consider them women.

There's still only two sexes.

springbirdss · 22/06/2025 21:03

Who knows? Why do some people not end up having any babies at all, even if they could do so? People’s sexuality - who they are attracted to - or their personal life choices do not alter the fact that physically every human, as a mammal, has the capacity to make new humans, and in order to make new humans you need one body that produces large, immobile gametes, and one that produces small mobile ones.
