But I admire him for taking a stance on this.

please do not misquote me.

Yes you admire misogynist bigots. You've made that quite clear. Quite the pick me girl on the knees for the patriarchy. Think that will give you crumbs from your male masters?

What has he said in the past?

He was on Triggernometry podcast not long ago saying the trans thing had gone too far. He changes his mind according to his audience.

ThatCyanCat · 19/06/2025 09:29

So now women can have their rights but only if they don't celebrate after winning a landmark case after those rights were illegally stripped from them, leading to countless losses for years. Because cheering outside the Supreme Court and posting a photo with whiskey and a cigar is totally the same as bottling someone when your team loses a football match.

Everyone says that they don't want women to sit down, shut up and smile sweetly no matter what but it's alarming how many actually do. And honestly, I think a huge number of people also have a serious problem with a woman who not only gained mega wealth but had the chutzpah to do it not by marriage or inheritance, or even being an investment banker.

TheKeatingFive · 19/06/2025 09:21

Ah so now we're pulling out the race card, in a situation that has nothing to do with race, in an attempt to signal ourselves as the 'good people'

Because we can't actually provide any evidence for what we asserted.

You are twisting an argument here. Brings to mind that poem which begins something like “First they came for the Jews”

'Same hilarious responses from the cult'

The cult. Oh my siiiiides such wit. Women tell men the truth and it means they're in a cult 🙄.

Next!

You mean the cult the OP of that thread is in, regurgitating cult talking points and misinformation, fell flat on their face and didn't have the guts to return. When cultists embarrass themselves, they seldom return.

please do not misquote me.

The stance that it is better to be effective than to be right?

You do understand the implication of what he is saying?

Surprised the TRAs haven't picked up on that yet. They'll soon start putting him through the purity machine.

Stephen? Is that you?

No. Not enough obscure words, but a good try.

I have never really liked Stephen Fry but this interview makes me see him in a whole new light. I agree with him and am glad he has spoken out.

Like Fry I feel stuck between two camps. I have friends who have trans DC’s and friends who are trans. I have complicated feelings about some of the issues such as unfair advantages in sports etc. and the way that some trans people seek to inhabit some cis female spaces (not bothered by toilets etc but am concerned about therapeutic spaces where women recovering from male violence might have to share space with someone who lived most of their life as male) But the way some people were “crowing” after the Supreme Court decision, as though they were football hooligans celebrating a team win…Well, I gained new clarity after that. I can’t stand some of the attitudes expressed towards trans women and men.

Good for Fry for poking his head above the parapet. I brace myself for the flak and insults that are coming my way.

Interesting new narrative emerging that women shouldn’t be celebrating their victories, maybe they should have quietly gone back to do some housework after their day in court, and said nothing?

Pesky women not knowing their space. Going to court’s nothing special, no stress at all fighting for rights of 50% of population, including those as yet not born. I expect that if the case had gone the other way, everyone would have gone quietly home as ‘nothing to see here’

It’s funny how it’s OK for TRA protesters to shout down women when they try to speak in public, it’s OK for women to lose their jobs for saying TW are not the same as biological women, or lose access to services when women say TW shouldn’t be in women only spaces, but it’s outrageous that women celebrate being acknowledged that TW are not the same as biological women. 🤔

Right… for that to work there needs to be a hierarchy of oppression and for some reason in this hierarchy a very small minority of men are more oppressed than all of women.

No one is losing any rights. In fact we have more of them than ever before.

I honestly find the TRA rhetoric where they attempt to align themselves with genuinely oppressed groups bordering on gross now.

What rights are transwomen missing?

PopeJoan2 · 19/06/2025 09:33

BettyBooper · 19/06/2025 09:29

He was on Triggernometry podcast not long ago saying the trans thing had gone too far. He changes his mind according to his audience.

He has mixed feelings - like many of us. I support trans women. I also feel that some spaces should be cis female* only. It is possible to hold 2 conflicting ideas in the mind.

*I use the term for convenience and its use demonstrates how complicated this issue is.

EsmaCannonball · 19/06/2025 09:33

Given that he has posited himself as a free speech champion, it does seem rather lame that he has avoided speaking on this issue through fear of attack from both sides.

You might want to remember that poem when you sell out your sisterhood for the patriarchy....

If you don't defend your sisterhood, don't expect them to be there for you.

Have a think about it.

You don't need to use cis, trans and women suffices.

You mean like 'first they came for women's rights'?

Given that the Police, NHS, Olympics, the bloody government were all rolling over until some brave women stood up and fought it?

Like that, you mean?

No. You raise the idea of a hierarchy. Not me. I don’t see it that way. Would love to talk more but have to go to work.

Yes I'm interested in this. There are protected in law regarding employment etc.

What rights are they missing. An ally lease explain and no, wanting to be allowed into women's spaces doesn't count.

Talking about responses: do you want to come back to the thread you started called "Reflections on Trans Arguments" or have you lost interest when you realized you couldn't actually back up any of your "arguments" and your links didn't say what you claimed they say?
