It is not a slam dunk. It's to say why I think JKR is not a hero. Why I strongly dislike her tweets and think she goes far beyond what is necessary for an otherwise worthwhile cause

Yesterday she tweeted this. Same women that tweeted a nasty post about female footballer Barbra Banda.

How is that not targeting individuals? What makes her tweets OK? and is it coincidence that the athletes targeted are all non-white women? Of course feminism and race are interlinked and it is not gaslighting to call people out on it, and to refuse to let JKR define discourse on the topic of women's spaces.

there’s absolutely nothing offensive about that tweet and it’s weird that you’d use that tweet as an example of how hateful JK is. Weird but also kind of amusing! Try harder with some actual receipts, or are you just going to
continue posting baseless lies and slander?

But you don't care about the race issue. If you cared about both you wouldn't speak about Caster Semenya the way you do.

Semenya is a father. You really think he doesn't know what sex he is?

javyd · 19/06/2025 11:21

Chris is losing her argument so is bringing in race as another (disingenuous) tactic, in the hope
that she can scare people into submission

Edited

Wtf has that to do with Fry and JKR? <sigh> I'm going to have to read the thread aren't I. But, off the top of my head, I'm reminded of the racist tra argument of 'trans' being an adjective to describe a type of women. CS isn't a man because he's black but because he's a man. Any criticism follows from that not because of his skin colour. Bloody hell, it's like Lia whatsisface never dipped his toes in the water.

But you don't care about the race issue. If you cared about both you wouldn't speak about Caster Semenya the way you do.

That is your opinion and your opinion only.

And it is based on your need to control people’s language when they are using correct sex terms and pointing out the facts that you seem to have either ignored or didn’t know.

You can choose to use the language you wish. Others can choose to use language that reflects the material facts. You can name call all you wish too.

I suspect that you cannot recognise how your own actions are centring abuse towards female people though. And I assume you have no evidence of the ‘attacks’ on individuals you have based your own judgment of JK Rowling on.

So either you supported male people abusing her by wishing she remained silent and let them continue to abuse her, or you are repeating false accusations that you have read and have not verified.

Either way, I don’t believe you are in a position to negatively judge other posters.

LonginesPrime · 19/06/2025 11:30

Wealthy gay man doesn’t care about women’s rights - shocking.

He makes it very clear he will say whatever he needs to say (even if it’s not true and even if he doesn’t personally believe it) to keep the money rolling in when he says:

“it is much more important to be effective than to be right”

javyd · 19/06/2025 11:31

it would blow @Christmasmorale actual mind to know that many GC women are black and brown women.

Christmasmorale · 19/06/2025 11:31

MoistVonL · 19/06/2025 11:23

You only care for the black female athletes in a intellectual way to make your point against another black victim

Bullshit. The Williams sisters are two of the greatest champions the sport has ever seen. They have been treated appallingly by the media and have somehow managed not to lose their shit (god knows I would have) and are absolute legends to people the world over.

Simone Biles was wrong in her diatribe against Riley Gaines (although Gaines’s pro Trump stuff is just as wrong) but that doesn’t stop her being a supreme champion and most gifted gymnast in the world.

Looking at Semenya and saying “because black” rather than “because a man” is blatant misdirection.

NB - CS has been aware of his sex for decades now, even if you ignore all the evidence of his teen years when he clearly was aware he was male. The testing was initially done in his teens.

Your post is the intellectual equivalent of I have a black friend....

Admiring black athletes is one thing - everyone does that. We are British when we win, foreign when we lose.

Truly trying to understand the racism at play here is another matter entirely, and is not a misdirection but entirely relevant to the issue at hand - whether criticism of JKR is ever justified...

What point are you trying to make? You say you're in favour of sex testing for female sports, so that's great. Looks won't come into it. We agree.

Are you saying that people will still make the claim after that that black female athletes look like men? You may be right, but the sex testing will go a long way towards defusing that.

As long as you're still claiming that Semenya is a woman, you're perpetuating this idea, since Semenya is in fact a man and that's why he looks like one. The more you call him female, the more you're arguing that black women look like men on an entirely false premise. Surely this isn't what you want to do?

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were just trying to time waste and needlessly obfuscate...

The USA-influenced social justice warriors have arrived to engage in oppression-Olympics.

White women are not allowed feelings or any degree of sympathy because of their privilege. This wipes out any possible consideration of their humanity and they must be punished and mocked for not “staying in their lane”. Or so I have been told.

I REALLY HATE the divisiveness of the whole splitting people apart by “race” and setting women against each other in a competition to see who is worse off. And only those with the most oppression have any right to discuss anything at all. The rest must just continually apologise for their general existence.

Especially when it is used as a distraction from the topic at hand, which is things Stephen Fry said, and the particular brand of misogyny exhibited by some gay men.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/06/2025 11:34

Wasn't Barbra Banda banned from an African football competition because...I think the wording was more diplomatic...but because bloke. Was that racist?

If Fry is ever in the market for a sprog would he ask a tw to be a surrogate?

No but having "eyesight" to determine whether someone is a man, then looking back on her tweets on how that "eyesight" has played out against black and minority people in sport is the same point I was making about how without standardised gender testing, white beauty standards and systemic racism will always mean that non-whites are on the receiving end of this vitriol in sport.

That was an example of a tweet that ties in to my point - using the example of her previous tweet about black female footballer Barbra Bandra (which was attacking an individual and uncalled for). Her eyesight seems to target non-white women...

So, you know that Barbara Banda was excluded from a Cup series because Banda's national team's executive understood that Banda would fail the sex test?

And that Banda is only still playing because the governing bodies refuse to protect female sports by excluding male people and if you want to be pedantic, any person who refuses to take a sex test. And the current IOC rules are still configured that where a sporting federation doesn't exclude male athletes from female sports, they will include those athletes.

Do you understand at all with any depth the issues that you are using to demonise JK Rowling?

"to refuse to let JKR define discourse on the topic of women's spaces."

Too fucking late! Her funding court cases will most definitely give JK Rowling at least the notional impact of 'defining discourse on the topic of women's spaces'.

How do you not see this?

Is this the same Barbra Banda who failed sex testing and had to take medication to reduce testosterone level?

I don't think Laurel Hubbard or Lia Thomas should be in female sports either.

SternJoyousBee · 19/06/2025 11:38

PopeJoan2 · 19/06/2025 09:26

in my eyes it does have something to do with race. People who have suffered discrimination understand what it looks and feels like. That engenders sympathy in some cases. That is what makes this issue so thorny and complicated. Many women understand this. Like @Christmasmorale I feel that trying to have a discussion about this can be emotionally draining.

Knowing that humans cannot change sex us not discrimination

protecting women’s rights is not discrimination

Are you discriminating against me if you refuse to accept my deeply held belief that I am a race that I have no trace of in my DNA. It is my sincerely held belief and it would upset me if you don’t also believe what I believe. It’s not good enough for you to accept that I believe you must also believe.
