It matters what black women look like because gender testing is not standardised in athletics, but only done on looks. So once someone is deemed to look like a man, and is called out on it, they are tested. This leads to discrimination based on what the world deems a women looks like. Black women being the victim of may accussations of manliness (just go on twitter and look at comments on posts about Serena Williams and Michelle Obama to see)

Why do you think there's so much support for Caster from black women. Her sex is irrelevant to the wider discussion on inequality and racism within these systems.

Glad that you welcome cheek swab sex testing, which would be carried out on all athletes and has nothing to do with looks. You do, don't you?

Gloriia · 19/06/2025 10:12

He says goady crap but he also seems so very thin skinned and desperate to be liked, so I wonder if we'll get a wobbly whiny back track.

And this is why I hate discussing these issues on mumsnet. White feminists and their failure to have any sort of nuanced discussion on race or feminism shouldn't still shock me but here we are...

Feminists failing to have any sort of nuanced discussion on feminism ...

I think you are mixing in a different issue here completely and trying to make a blunt argument that doesn’t work.

What could be legitimately argued is that there are regions in the world where DSDs were not tested early. Likely due to lack of budget and access to technology. This means those athletes are likely to have a higher representation in sport.

This then leads to them being identified when they are in events. Not because of beauty standards. Because they have masculinised bodies and performance.

I once read/heard SF described as a stupid person’s idea of an intelligent person and that seemed to fit him.
I dislike the man a lot.

I was on a TV show with him. I did not warm to him.

I read that definition in one of those 'fun' books of cultural observations that people buy for people they don't know well. It was many years ago, but I think it's been subsequently claimed by others

My understanding is that it's also the case that in some countries, scouts are looking for boys with female paperwork in order to funnel them in to female sports, because it's an effective way to win medals when there isn't the money for the sophisticated training programmes (and cheating methods) available elsewhere.

"Cis" does align with a narrow ideology. Nothing on MN is completely banned, the moderators try to take context into account, and in any case posts are not deleted if no-one has reported them.

You are either misunderstanding or deliberately misreading the point.

There is indeed a narrow ideology at work here, and it's alive and well on MN. And no, it is not feminism, despite the desperate attempts by many to claim it is.

Interesting to get clarification on how MN banning works, though; thanks.

Also Fry totally panders to his audience - he flip flops on JKR and trans issues all the time. Not just misogynistic, but totally lacking in any principles of his own.

This. The lowest kind of people, in my opinion.

The Keir Starmer of comedy

Wow. I can practically see the waving pitchforks and smell the flaming brands from here.

Threads like this really are a ghoulishly fascinating, and anthropologically interesting, study of the ignorant, hateful, pack mentality that has come to typify so many areas of the internet.

I'd give my own views on the estimable, esteemed - and universally beloved by thinking human beings - Mr Fry, but suspect doing so will only further enrage the witch-burning cultists.

Actually, it might be fun to do so anyway; in much the same way you might wind a toy and watch it trundle across the floor in monomaniacal obsession...

Are you Stephen Fry ?

The Keir Starmer of comedy

Nailed it.

Daygloboo · 19/06/2025 10:18

Are you Stephen Fry ?

It sure sounds like a pedantic, grandiose narcissist.

IfNot · 19/06/2025 10:21

I just asked my teen son if he knows who Stephen Fry is. Nope. Then I asked him if he knows JKR. He looked at me like I’m bonkers.
“Yeah mum, I know who JKR is- I live in the world.”
Maybe Stephen is salty that he’s not really that relevant anymore to the next generation?

BackToLurk · 19/06/2025 10:22

Daygloboo · 19/06/2025 10:18

Be fair. Even Mr Fry would have been embarrassed by that half arsed list of 'talking points' with references that didn't support them plopped by Finchy on the other thread.

TooSquaretobehip · 19/06/2025 10:03

Caster was raised as a boy. That's been confirmed.

And again with the 'hysteria' slur. You couldn't make it more obvious you have a deep hatred of women if you so desperately tried.

That's factually incorrect. She was assigned female at birth and raised as a girl. Multiple sources confirm this.

While I do not agree that biological males should compete with biological females - there are a lot of grey areas in the human sex anatomy which leads to grey areas in the discourse. These need to be discussed with the nuance and racial as well as cultural sensitivity.

The fact that most posters on here refuse to see this just further justifies my belief that feminism as discussed on here is also equated to white womanhood.

Pluvia · 19/06/2025 10:22

He's a great example of the Very Clever Idiot phenomenon, isn't he? People who are intelligent on a theoretical level but can't understand or connect on a human or emotional level. He, Emma Thompson and Sandi Toksvig were all at Cambridge together and have all put the fetishistic feelings of a few men above the comfort, ease and dignity of women. Misogynistic, entitled idiots, all of them.

universally beloved by thinking human beings

Oh dear. I had always thought I was a thinking human being, but I've never been all that keen on SF, so presumably I'm not. Had not realised the horrific consequences of my preferences. Sad

Pluvia · 19/06/2025 10:25

No, they're Stephen Fry's partner/ agent/ PA and they're in a panic in case the gravy train gets derailed.

What is your point? Of course I would welcome equality of cheek swabs rather than a system that further entrenches racism and race discrimination.

Do you agree that the 'grey areas in human sex anatomy' you mention have been exploited in order to slip male athletes into female categories where they don't belong, and that this is wrong for all the athletes involved?

Thelnebriati · 19/06/2025 10:27

Ironically some of the Stephen Fry fans on this board don't seem to have read Mr Fry's actual words, which are;
''Sir Stephen, who is himself gay, said: 'She has been radicalised I fear and it may be she has been radicalised by TERFs, but also by the vitriol that is thrown at her. ''

Personally, I think its the same tired old 'both sides' bollocks, and I note he doesn't explain how anyone can be 'radicalised' into believing there are two sexes and humans cant change sex, but one side relies on facts and the other side relies on social approval and this is the outcome.

You are so behind on this. Read some Dr Emma Hilton.

Again, you are the only person here arguing that a certified man is in fact a black woman.

NiceoneSonny · 19/06/2025 10:29

How much of a grey area is it when you can use your sperm to father a child?
