I know I'm making a lot of threads but TRA ideology is so widespread that it makes me question if there's something I'm missing sometimes. I also added a poll. I understand viewpoints are more complicated than being X or Y, but it's just to get a rough idea of mumsnet mindsets. Thank you.

Where’s the box for Revisionist Marxist? Primitive (Original) Communist?

Left of centre??

onwardsup4 · 18/06/2025 19:48

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 18/06/2025 19:10

No, I don't think I'm wrong about being gender critical.

Didn't vote in the poll because I don't think I fit in either box.

This

StormyPotatoes · 18/06/2025 19:48

I have a question for you, OP. We had the resident TRA on a thread yesterday say that we should leave trans people alone and by that he meant (and I’m going to copy paste what he said):

Stop having opinions about trans people.

Stop talking about trans people.

Stop trying to force everyone to agree with your definition of particular words.

If you ever come across a trans person in the wild address them as they ask to be addressed (e.g. use their name) and let them get along with their business as you do with everyone else.

I’m really curious what you think about that, because to me telling someone not have an opinion, not to ever talk about an issue, accept someone to change definitions of words we know and address them contrary to what we believe is incredibly authoritarian (actually rather close to facism, wouldn’t you say).

What do you think about those set of views, OP?

NotMyRealAccount · 18/06/2025 19:49

I've never stopped asking myself if I could be wrong. When I've got people I've always seen as decent and intelligent saying "TWAW" and "it's not that simple" of course I'm going to wonder whether they're right and I'm missing something that is obvious to a lot of people. But I always end up coming back to the bare fact that sex is binary and immutable and gender ideology is full of bullshit.

Oh, and floating lapsed socialist.

fabricstash · 18/06/2025 19:50

Almost everyone I have met are gender critical when you actually explain it clearly. The only exceptions are a few young people

myplace · 18/06/2025 19:54

I was a Liberal Democrat. Then a Green. Then labour. Now I’ve moved more towards Conservative but I think that’s partly the fault of what’s happened to the left.
I’ve not actually voted Conservative or Labour yet.

Buggers.

Delphin · 18/06/2025 19:58

"The voting options don’t really work so I haven’t voted"

I cannot see a poll. Where should it show up? (am using a tablet, tried 2 browsers)

TheOtherRaven · 18/06/2025 20:00

No, I'm not doing the 'pick one' because this feels like an attempt (another one) at trying to force evidence that women who want rights are right wing and can therefore be regarded as subhuman.

I'd refuse to vote if those were my two options.

PennyAnnLane · 18/06/2025 20:02

In neither a conservative nor a liberal, politically I’m somewhere in the middle.

I know humans can’t change sex, on principle I cannot lie and pretend someone is the opposite sex and that’s without going into how harmful the trans ideology is.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that for many men it’s a fetish, and I don’t want to be an unwitting participant in someone else’s sex game.

SexRealist · 18/06/2025 20:03

Sex realist. No doubts whatsoever. See my username (though I use a few).

Centrist. Used to be LD, then green. Would still be green if they hadn't gone insane. Now I have no idea. FPTP makes liberal/conservative polarity meaningless in the UK. Not done the poll as a result.

GarlicMile · 18/06/2025 20:03

Same.

OP, lots of highly conservative people are highly trans-sceptical because they believe in sex-linked gender roles. This is the polar opposite of a feminist view, which would land on the more liberal side of things.

You're looking at it wrong.

WithSilverBells · 18/06/2025 20:07

Yeah, sorry OP but I'm sick of playing this game

Quite

Dymaxion · 18/06/2025 20:15

I don't think I am wrong in my view that people cannot change sex, it is a biological fact. If that makes me 'gender critical', so be it.
As for your poll, I am very centrist when it comes to politics, my views sometimes seep into both the camps you mention depending on the subject, so I can't vote as you have disregarded the massive middle ground where you will find the majority of people.

EasternStandard · 18/06/2025 20:15

Liberal / conservative doesn’t mean much in the U.K.

lady69 · 18/06/2025 20:17

Weird poll. Knowing what sex is isn’t governed by political leaning. It’s knowing what sex is. I know the sky is blue as well.

rebmacesrevda · 18/06/2025 20:21

I deliberately wonder whether I’m wrong, and I try to argue the case for the other side. I do this because the woke left are so adamant about being right, and I don’t want to be like them.

The trouble is, I believe in science and the importance of evidence. In order to believe in genderism, I’d have to stop believing in material reality. That way madness lies.

According to DeanElderberry’s fun quiz, I’m liberal left, but I don’t feel an affinity to any political party. I live in Scotland, where the government demonstrates their collective insanity on a daily basis. I’m not religious at all but this nonsense has given me a new appreciation of Christian values, which I think are usually thought of as conservative. Perhaps I’d be better off praying instead of voting 🙏

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/06/2025 20:31

Your boxes make no sense. Small C and small L are different to the big versions. Liberal isn’t the same in the UK as in America. The binary continuum of politics makes little sense any more.

From example, I’m pretty leftie but old school, working leftie. Not champagne socialist. I’m probably slightly fiscally conservative, which the Conservatives aren’t any more. It’s complicated.

ScarlettSunset · 18/06/2025 20:38

I am completely certain of my GC views.
I am shocked how things have gone and really shocked how so many people have been caught up in gender ideology.

I don't think I fit the political categories you put so I haven't voted there.

GeneralPeter · 18/06/2025 20:39

UnlockedXCX · 18/06/2025 19:37

I'm just curious how do people here see themselves in a political sense. Gun to your head if you had to pick a side, where do you think you fall in general (outside of gender related issues).

But in UK usage these two just aren’t opposites. That’s why so many posters can’t answer you.

The dimensions I’d say are Conservative to Progressive (do you worry more about preventing negative change, or pursuing positive change), and an entirely different dimension of Authoritarian to Liberal (do you care more about imposing what you want, or giving people the freedom to pursue what they want).

There are people in all four quadrants.

UnlockedXCX · 18/06/2025 20:41

Well jeez people, I was not aware the question would cause this much confusion. My mistake.

Then I’m guessing you are American, where those two labels are used for Right and Left. It’s not the same in the UK.

GeneralPeter · 18/06/2025 20:44

And don’t even think of visiting Australia! (Their conservative party is the Liberals).

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 18/06/2025 20:48

Do I ever begin to spontaneously believe that humans can change sex, or that sex isn't sometimes important? erm, nope

your poll doesn't make any sense
