I have seen this issue talked about on here, but is there anyone tracking how many violent offences committed by male people are incorrectly being recorded or reported as committed by women? Is that even possible to identify or is the data too corrupted?
I was just reading this piece on the BBC about a male person who has been convicted of multiple dangerous and weapons offences and had been googling to find out whether 3D-printed guns could kill people.
The casual reader might be forgiven for not realising from the BBC's reporting that the offender in question is male. Zoe Ashley Watts is male, is out as transgender, and has previously been imprisoned in the male estate for similar offences (and protested about not being in the female estate).
You wouldn't know that from the BBC though. I increasingly think that reporting of this nature undermines the work that the BBC holds itself out as doing against misinformation and disinformation online.
