He was going to ban skirts.

Parental feedback was not sought initially, but they've had plenty of it since the change was announced!

My opinion. Police the children effectively if they're not wearing it properly. Don't punish the girls who are following the rules.

They do, nobody except some posters on here has seen what they describe. Shortish skirts above the knee yes. Skirts that show pants or sanpro, no. People that look to see it don't have good intentions.

I don't understand your answer, I'm afraid. What do you mean by 'they do'?

Would you allow a female child to go to school naked if she wanted? If not, why not?

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 21:39

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 21:13

I didn't say I wouldn't, did I? Depends on the weather during the apocalypse.
Woman's choice, good for the wearer.
Arse on display and cleavage down to the waiste isn't a new thing, by the way.

That's a princess, by the way. Wasn't considered unclassy back in her day.

wearyourpinkglove · 06/06/2025 21:40

Maybe skorts (cycle shorts with a skirt on top) are the way to go? My 4 year old wears a netball skort for PE and has some for outside of school as well. They look lovely and are very practical. You can't roll them up either as the shorts ride up.

Sorry it's a typo.
No, I agree with you in part.
Skirts are fine, I've never seen them short like some people have described. They need to be not too long to be comfortable.
Skirts like some describe that show pants simply don't exists, nobody rolls them that high.
They roll them, you did it or your friends did it, I did it, your grandmother did it and it didn't offend anyone.

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2025 21:58

I don't think you are actually posting in good faith because you keep repeating points that you have previously been corrected upon in this thread, and keep accusing people of being perverts.

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 21:58

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2025 21:17

Yes but you seem to think that it isn't for the benefit of men.

Well banning them is for the benefit of men and it oppresses and resrtricts women. I'd rather women were free to wear what they want without restrictions placed on them and were not objectified. It's men you need to fight not skirts or body parts especially womens as they rarely do any harm unlike mens.

They do roll them that high though. Those of us who work in schools are telling you this. It is simply inappropriate for school. The rule at my school is 3/4 of thigh length so not particularly long but they still roll them. They complain that they look like nuns when we tell them to unroll them.

Because people have been going in circles regurgitating points they've been corrected on and repeating points.

Ok. So would you allow a child to go to school naked and, if not, why not?

Sometimes it helps to look at extreme examples to test out ideas and boundaries.

It is entirely reasonable for people not to be free to wear what they want without restrictions placed on them. There are dress codes in many, many places and not just for women. No shirt, no service? That's about men dressing appropriately.

And I'm entirely reasonable in not wanting to see arses in my workplace. For my benefit. I don't want to see penises, or men with no shirts either, but that hasn't actually come up as an issue.

Dwimmer · 06/06/2025 22:10

Runnersandtoms · 06/06/2025 21:24

Girls roll up their skirts for two reasons. 1, because some of them actively want to look sexy to boys and men and to 'prove' how grown up they are. 2, because the small number of girls who don't roll their skirts get bullied or teased about it. So most follow the crowd just to blend in.

It is not unreasonable to have a dress code in schools which protects children and teachers. Nobody is exaggerating, there are large numbers of girls walking around with skirts so short you can literally see their buttocks. And lots of them look uncomfortable (holding onto their bit of skirt with one hand at all times) which tells me they'd rather not but are bowing to peer pressure.

Staff do not need to be deliberately looking up girls skirts to see their underwear. It's right there, especially when going upstairs or sitting on the floor. This is not acceptable in a workplace, and is contrary to the school's duty of safeguarding.

I think having trousers for all is a more sensible choice, ideally they could offer different cuts to suit different body shapes.

Exactly this.

Dwimmer · 06/06/2025 22:11

NameyChangey95 · 06/06/2025 21:28

Thank God. Someone has brought safeguarding back to the thread. Safeguarding of children trumps feminism.

And this

Like I mentioned because you have mysoginist views so only manage to notice girls dressed as you consider inappropriately but you never notice men walking around jangling their ballage about that's actually more in your face since men tend to be taller compared to girls skirts.
What wave of feminism is that?

Indeed. Why should women wear clothes at all? Women wearing clothes is restrictive and benefits men.

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 22:14

Dwimmer · 06/06/2025 22:11

And this

Except that isn't safeguarding, safeguarding would be locking up pervy men that sexualise girls clothes and not allowing men and boys express inappropriate thoughts and actions. What you call safeguarding. - blaming girls for men's behavior - is abuse. Far from safeguarding.

These aren’t women, they are girls.

This is about me not wanting to see arses in my workplace which is an entirely reasonable expectation.

I don't want to see penises either. You seem to think that is an issue with grey joggers which do not form part of the school uniform.

Hope this helps.

The problem with that is we do not know which men are the pervy ones until it is too late and a child has perhaps been harmed in some way. Safeguarding is about protecting children from harm before it happens

Why couldn’t they just make it so they have to wear floor length skirts?

Boys and girls? Why not? Definitely gender neutral

What is wrong with frock coats and plus fours anyway?
