He was going to ban skirts.

Parental feedback was not sought initially, but they've had plenty of it since the change was announced!

My opinion. Police the children effectively if they're not wearing it properly. Don't punish the girls who are following the rules.

You seem to think that young girls wearing crop tops and tiny shorts is liberating and feminist rather than a feature of patriarchy.

And I have no idea what you're talking about with joggers.

Absolutely nuts. No I don't..I never said anything remotely like this.😂

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 20:20

noblegiraffe of course you don't issues with mens, you only notice women's erroneous ways, not mens. The whole point of this thread. And shows how dangerous this thinking is to women.

Dwimmer · 06/06/2025 20:21

The "modesty" thing on here is spouted by people who grew up in very different cultures and those who don't understand at all why women who wear short skirts and girls wearing short stuff aren't asking for it.

You are the only person talking about modesty here.

Why do you consider dodgy male clothing for sale in your area that outlines their testicles ‘erroneous ways’?

shallishanti · 06/06/2025 20:24

exactly
its not about modesty
its about equality
both boys and girls deserve to be educated in clothes that are comfortable, practical, economical and do not make a feature of sexualising the body

as it is, boys have this 99% of the time
girls not so much

its the patriarchy, stupid

Show me this man's 'erroneous ways'. I've looked quite closely and can't spot them.

So you fight it by telling girls to cover up? That's mysogony and patriarchy like we've never had before, silly.

Nonsense.

They've airbrushed his genitalia outline out of the image, but pay attention next time you go out instead of monitoring women and girls. It'll be literally dangling right there everywhere you look.
But why would you when you have women to subjugate, by critisizing, policing and controlling their bodies and clothes.

You go tell women in Afganistan how liberated, de-objectified and free they are.

1.9.8.4 freedom = slavery

We're not talking about putting girls in head to foot coverings! We're talking about a sensible uniform choice.

You’re now just posting gibberish. Clearly you have an issue with Islamic modes of dress for women. Fine, so do lots of feminists.

But that is pretty irrelevant to a discussion about uniform in UK schools and girls wearing trousers and not having their skirts around their waists.

Trousers and a polo shirt as school uniform does not equate to religious coverings.

That this evening needs to be said is quite bizarre...

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 20:46

The same way as gender neutral toilets doesn't equate that a woman's can't use the toilet. It limits them by taking away from women so men can have it better. It treats women as less important.
Would you genuinely be happy to be told not to wear too short a skirt as it makes a man uncomfortable? And this is perfectly normal and just makes you equal to a man?

Why would they airbrush his erroneous ways out of the photo if the point of the joggers is to display them? Wouldn't they make a feature of how revealing they are?

Perhaps there's a brand of particularly tight joggers that might be more revealing but I don't think the purpose of joggers in general is to 'clearly delineate the penis.'

And boys are not altering their school uniform trousers to make this a feature in my school. If they were, there would be objections to that too.

Ifpicklesweretickles · 06/06/2025 20:49

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2025 18:39

I note that you said upthread that you had never seen anybody's arse at work.

Why do you think that is?

Tedium. I've seen lots of women in mini micro skirts in work yet not a single arse on display. I've seen women in cutout shorts with arse on display and was pleased for them to be able to dress as they like.

Women and men have been told by managers in our office that their clothes are unsuitable/inappropriate for work, that’s included skirts that are too short, shorts, vest tops and flip flops. They may not have been happy about it but it’s part of the contract you have with the workplace, in the same way you have a contract with the school about standards of school uniform.

There's an interesting thought experiment which says that there is an apocalypse and as you are the last surviving human making your way through a deserted landscape, then you finally get to dress as you like, for yourself and you alone. Do you think it will be cut-out shorts with arse on display?

No and not in the image because we don't objectify men or their clothes. In fact while ther ballage consistently dangles about, right in front of them, nobody notices. But they really notice women's san pro in their pants according to this thread. What does it say about the noticer?

Grammarnut · 06/06/2025 20:57

BettyBooper · 06/06/2025 09:20

Sorry I'm not getting why trousers for all is a problem? In my last job everyone had to wear trousers because skirts were impractical. It wasn't a big deal.

I think it's a mistake to badge it as 'gender neutral', but it's a reasonable uniform requirement imo.

But skirts are a normal part of girls' clothing and if they prefer them - even with thick black tights - they should not be made to wear trousers. Also, trousers are more likely to show leaks during menstruation - which this man has certainly not thought about.

No idea but women shouldn't need to adjust their dress or behavior for the benefit of the males.

BettyBooper · 06/06/2025 20:58

I've worked with kids who haven't been going out in public. As soon as they aren't going out, they choose to wear joggers. Every single time. Both sexes.

Girls invariably stop bothering with makeup. It's an eye opener.
