Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Teen drama misrepresents trans by making it edgy and cool (while of course GC people are the evil witches)

Really quite biased piece here relating to a drama which portrays a young trans teen as being edgy, cool and the epitomy of the rebellious teen with a plenty of a hardship narrative thrown in. Trans writer with no thought to women's' rights of the impact of puberty blockers. Quotes from GC campaigners threaded in to look cold and heartless in the language (middle class establishment against the new generation).

Oh and the lovely line from the author about the supreme court ruling 'we've got to rebel !' as if rebellion is somehow cool and the new protest movement instead of rebellion essentially meaning men rocking up in womens loos, safe spaces, sports etc.

Not great in my.opinion BBC.

What It Feels Like For A Girl: Trans teen drama based on Paris Lees memoir pulls no punches

The coming-of-age BBC drama is a visceral look at working class life when you don't fit in.

What was Paris Lees' crime?

Robbery and battering the old man with a golf club which led to his death.

It’s not a young caper gone wrong, it’s violent crime.

Greyskybluesky · 04/06/2025 15:24

Edgy n cool

LittleBitofBread · 04/06/2025 15:26

Thanks all. Interestingly, I did a quick Google of this before I asked on here, and could only find glancing mentions to a robbery in his youth. None of the horrid detail of battering and death.

I wonder why the Beeb and Graun are cosying up to and lionising a violent OAP mugger?

Robbery

ETA: Should have been more specific, sorry. Robbery and assault of an elderly gay man

Edited

I read a comment on a Graham Linehan blog which said the old man was buying sex from Paris when Paris was underage, is that true?

Yes

Yes

Interesting, thanks. Not that it excuses violent robbery, of course, but I think it’s important context to be aware of

Strangely the series is not popular.

Despite a huge budget, mass marketing and 'must watch' reviews across the media, What It Feels Like For A Girl, a drama about a 15-year-old cross-dressing boy, is a ratings disaster with just 40,000 viewers for its first episode

Shoved on BBC1 last night (2 episodes if 1 wasn't bad enough) the day after the equally offensive "Kissed" programme. Utter self pitying crap, portraying a lonely young man nothing to do with girls. Actually more like a young Autistic man close to me who similarly felt "everyone but me" was having a great time at that stage of life. (you'd be forgiven thinking gender is all part of Autism sometimes) Paris is often held up as the archetypal "passing" transwoman but he shows a darker side in common with so many men about women and girls.

What is the Kissed program and why is it offensive?

Dreadful. I've noticed that lesbians are often too kind for their own good w letting Tims into their spaces, while gay men are generally & rightly much blunter w tifs, partly bc they face much less danger of violence if in person. But teen boys are much mpre vulnerable, so it's easier for the TRAs to gaslight them. Vile
