My MP’s definition of transphobia is an interesting one…

This has made me so cross (highlighted section of her caption). To make matters worse I voted for this woman!

I’m tempted to write an email - any pithy suggestions of what I could say gladly received…

Just in case the image is under review (it's an Instagram screenshot) here's the full caption - which is beneath a progress pride flag:

"Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia.

The day is celebrated on 17th May each year to coincide with the World Health Organization’s decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1990.

I want the community and its allies to know you will ALWAYS have my support as your Member of Parliament. 🫶🏻

Needless to say that anyone who comments with anything homophobic, bi-phobic, or trans-phobic or even alluding to it, such as ‘what is a woman’ - will be blocked.

There is nothing but ‘the wrong side of history’ about those who seek to exclude and hurt LGBTQIA people. There is no debate on this. There is wrong and right."

The bit in bold is what has fucked me off! And the "no debate" nonsense.

🤣 that's a red rag to an angry bull if I ever saw one.
I hope the replies are full of "what is a woman then ???"

Unfortunately it’s all sycophantic drivel 😫

Reminds me of Jonathon Pie's comment about Labour Party Conferences where they all chant together in the safe space room "No one say anything I don't agree with! No one say anything I don't agree with!"

HermioneWeasley · 30/05/2025 15:51

I would write and point out they’re supposed to represent all their constituents and abide by the law of the land, and the Supreme Court has said trans women are men

orangegato · 30/05/2025 15:59

It’s nice to know that an elected MP describes defining women as transphobic. I wonder if her constituents, you know the people who unfortunately elected her, would share that view. A disgusting betrayal to women and children and it won’t be forgotten, we know which side of history she on… and will thankfully be consigned to it in 2029.

Supposing people asked her “what is a man?” Would that get a response I wonder.

RedToothBrush · 30/05/2025 16:10

'South Derbyshire'

I guess she's not looking to be reelected then.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 30/05/2025 16:15

It's such a shame as Sam Niblett otherwise does a good job. I'm in a neighbouring constituency and my MP clearly knows my views.

Are you going to block the Supreme Court too? 🤔

^ It would be very tempting if I was also on that platform 😂

KumquatHigh · 30/05/2025 16:25

I saw this too but on Facebook.

Even though her post is saying that she would block anyone who disagreed with her, she was having a go at someone who had blocked her! Confused

Ask her to give an example of transphobia, see if hurts her little brain. 🤯

Merrymouse · 30/05/2025 17:13

‘The definition of ‘woman’ is central to protecting women’s rights, and it is misogynist, and legally illiterate to suggest otherwise. This is a view upheld by the Supreme Court.

I am one of your constituents. I voted Labour in the last election, but needless to say I would not be able to vote for you again unless you demonstrate that you understand and support women’s rights. Your tweet suggests otherwise”.

Well done that man!

Daleksatemyshed · 30/05/2025 18:04

Martin sounds like a very reasonable man, how silly that's she upset he's blocked her - why does she get to entertain no debate but can't cope with it happening to her

potpourree · 30/05/2025 22:14

"It's incredibly offensive to suggest that trans people don't know what women are.

I ask you to apologise to the trans community and give us the opportunity to make it clear that 'what a woman is' is not a difficult question for us. Many of us are women!"

EdithStourton · 30/05/2025 22:27

I looked her up, she's 46! You have to really lack maturity to be bossing your constituents around at that age, rather than remembering that they elected you and can unelect you...

Crikey

Sam Niblett: ’I’ll make a highly controversial statement and say I’ll block anyone who criticises it’

Also Sam Niblett: ‘how very dare you make a statement I find controversial and then block me’

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 30/05/2025 22:34

It kind of reads as if she’d been drinking…
